Super Heat - Why its not right!!

Have two bonus points for an aggregate win (treat it as winning one 30 heat meeting) and have one point each for a drawn aggregate score....

That's not the worst idea. Would mean equal points handed out for each "pair of fixtures" (if also getting rid of the superheat for draws).

Or even award the aggregate point(s) over all 4 league fixtures?

So how much are super-heats being used in Phil Morris's new social media marketing? How many "views" are they attracting? And if they are attracting zillions of views, what difference is that making to the current and future viability of team speedway in the UK?

Personally I would like to see all the teams riders dressed as giants and do an obstacle course,, just like it's a knockout used to do,,, now that was entertainment

They could bring in the greasy pole. Anyone who wants to argue with the referee, has to climb up it, to get to the refs box.

You could carry buckets of coloured water on their handlebars and whoever finishes with the most water in their buckets wins the extra point...

Imagine the excitement and atmosphere created as Stuart Hall (hang on, no, not him, someone else)!:o is whipping up the crowd as the lads empty their buckets into a plastic tube thing....

The extra race is all well and good but the extra point isn't......

But does it really matter? It's supposed to be entertaining, blimey look at the absolute rubbish they have with gladiators, wwf, F1 darts and others that seem to be popular. Stattos will always moan whatever ( not aiming that at anyone in particular by the way) it's the crowd/herd that needs to be attracted through the talking points and controversy as much as through a 'great race'

From memory it was always the Belgians that provided the biggest laughs, it's a great idea 😅

The superheat is a sort of creeping americanisation of sport in that they simply don't like or do 'ties' - the trouble is they do provide drama and a sudden death jeopardy which the fans at the tracks seem to enjoy. I have seem one and the roar at the end at Foxhall when they secured the superheat v's Peterborough a couple of years back was huge.

The problem is everyone wants their promoters and and the sport to innovate and move foward and appeal to the non diehards - there are always so many threads dedicated to what can be done to 'save' speedway and here is an innovation that certainly seems to be well received on the terraces, rather liike the playoffs and everyone seems dead against it on here.

In football terms i always felt a well ground out away point was often a great reward, draws in speedway and other sports don't actually happen too often - personally i wouldnt have introduced it but i can see and understand why they have.

Of course it matters if you want sporting integrity

Gladitors and WWE are NOT sport - they are contrived entertainment set in a sporting enviroment

If not having a draw is the desired outcome then you should get zero match points for losing the super heat

They could always get Gregg Wallace to do the MC job it'd be a safer work environment for him as part of his rehabilitation

But the new people we need to get to attend wouldn't care less about points or what each team has as they may only come a few times a year and are not as invested in the results as diehard fans are, they just want to enjoy the event.

Oh, bore off😆 it's just a sporting event not life or death.  I'm being light hearted here by the way but in any event, speedway needs to make itself a bigger draw and increase viral chatter and spectacle because the racing itself doesn't do it I'm afraid.

I tell you what I would like to see in say a cup final rather than asuper heat etc  - would be a 1-7 ride off against each opposite number - so an extra 7 races with the result being award as 1-0 per race - rather than just a sudden one race winner takes all that way its a fairer representation of the teams, perhaps even just do 1 lap like the old one lap dashes from the late 80s they had in the 2nd halves!

ok you can all say its a cr@p idea now!

That would unfairly amplify the home advantage imo.

1 lap dashes are a great concept as almost completely at most tracks the other three laps are redundant.

it would but by logic extension the home top rider would also have an advantage in a single winner takes all etc

lets put it this way Belle Vue reserves might have struggled the other night!

yes I did used to like / enjoy those one lap dashes

Then these new people would love the super heat and not give a Sh!t whether either team gets 0 1 or 2 points and so at least give the scoring the sporting integrity the die hards care about (or should care about anyway)

The 2 are not mutually exclusive....
