What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

Looks a similar shape to Northampton. Too long, and tight turns?

But then Leicester does OK.

Having been a stock car fan all my life I can say that Yarmouth has tighter bends than Northampton but the straights appear about the same length.

Hiya Chris..

Yeah, also a stock car fan. Not been to Yarmouth, but NIR seems completely unsuitable for speedway to me. Can't put my finger on it, the length of straights, bends, width..

The way British riders are signing for European clubs it could well end up where you have the tracks but not enough riders.
You cannot blame any rider looking elsewhere as they have to put themselves first and they need to know their income stream to cover costs, mechanics and line up sponsors etc none of which can wait until the eve of a new season.

The delay in finalising arrangements in the Premiership is damaging the sport on so many levels and has wide ranging implications for riders, sponsors, team set up and for clubs who rent the stadia, what can they tell the owners? These landlords will have budgets and cashflow forecasts to complete and part of that is needing to know what the revenue stream will be.  If speedway teams cannot declare than the stadia owners may well look elsewhere. Short track is doing very well in Australia and it would not be beyond the realms of possibility to introduce team racing or other two and four wheeled sports filling the void caused by the Premiership teams

If only the fools in charge realised how their actions seriously undermine every aspect of the sport but they are so insular in their thinking and the rest of the business world which is materially affected by these delays etc. is lost on the BSPL

I thought speedway was held a few years back at Yarmouth or am I thinking of Skegness?

sure that was Skegness. I really enjoyed watching speedway there.  No idea why that closed but the stadium is still in use so could be an idea for another track.

It was Skegness that had one and a half seasons of Speedway. The stock car track was rebuilt from a narrow tarmac track to a very wide shale track. The track has been changed back to tarmac although it is still wide.

Northampton has the major disadvantage of having a raised centre green which could make things awkward for speedway although Birmingham Wheels had a raised centre green so obviously not a complete barrier to speedway.

If you went surely you must have noticed there were only about 299 other people there, which might explain its closure.

No wolves dig up and grown over, rye house is an all weather pitch and I think kent grown over too

Don't think they got as far as laying the pitch at Rye House. The track has been ripped up beyond recognition though I believe. Can't bring myself to venture over there to see what the state of the place is. Will mar some wonderful memories. A demise that was wholly avoidable too.

The last speedway meeting at Yarmouth was held on 8 August 1961, the King's of Oxford Trophy, and was won by Pete Jarman.

It was over 20 years ago.  I don't even remember what i had to breakfast yesterday.  I just remember having fun weekend trips to Skeggie and watching speedway. It was and still is a really nice stadium

Bob Dugard lost tens of thousands of pounds every year running the Eagles. In the end, he pulled the club out of the top division. Four seasons in the NDL followed and brought on track success but costs were high. That promotion pulled out at that point which suggests it wasn’t highly profitable. Then the ill-fated Jordan promotion. So for many years, Eastbourne struggled financially with insufficient crowds to make it pay. And those who know their history will tell you closure due to unprofitable operations has been part of the Arlington story under both Bob and his father

And what a great journalist you were for the club, hope your enjoying your retirement.

I think Yarmouth were the first visitors to the shay in Halifax,in the late 1950s,I'm sure I saw something on you tube about it.
