As I posted earlier, I lost my Track in 1964 and 1974. I am still very bitter about the way it happened, both in 1964 and 1974. You get to love a Sport and it is taken from you - it is no joke and certainly not funny. I sympathise with the Supporters with every Club that has gone, or will go to the wall. Even if Sunderland returned net Season, it is too late for me, I could not attend. It upsets me very much the way Speedway, our Sport, is shrinking. When one can see what has happened at Cradley Heath, Coventry, Peterborough, Wolverhampton, Wimbledon, Hull, Newcastle, Swindon et al - to me it is tragic. These were all great Teams years ago. I know I am getting on in years and some will say (not all I hope) that I am a silly old duffer living in the past. Yes it is fast, yes it is narrow, yes it was messy if you got it wrong. But also, yes it was exhilarating, and it gave immense satisfaction when you got it right. I think the problem when it comes to opinions on tracks on here, and this is not meant disrespectfully, but people who have never raced anything will never understand the mindset of a racer. The risk element is part of why you do it and there is a lot of pleasure in conquering that danger. I had a big crash there in 1996 riding for long Eaton clipping James birkenshaw’s back wheel entering the 3rd turn and smashing into the mesh fence before air fences and ending up in Sheffield hospital,,I still have the race jacket which I ripped open on my handlebar clamps, but I still didn’t mind riding there for 15 or more years as an away rider even though I was usually crap there 😂 but it was an easy place to ride and never considered it dangerous Edited yesterday at 09:27 PM by THE DEAN MACHINE

They wouldn't tbh as I doubt most of their HL's will be at the club next season If Poole move up or it's one big league. The Holder brothers will surely be going back to the Pirate ship. 4thbender
When I arrived at the stadium at 6.45pm last night I couldn't help but notice the "Redcar Bears Speedway" staff car parked right in front of the turnstiles. You have to get there very early to secure that particular parking space. Might their early attendance have some significance in the present circumstances? marko
Just to echo what a few others have said, no one wants any track to close even if that track was seen as a rival, the sport is only as strong as the clubs in it, the more that go, the more chance your own club could fall. I have seen three clubs that I used to attend on a regular or semi regular basis go, Arena Essex, Rye House and Hackney, not been to a meeting since 2018 when Arena went but still get the star every week and watch the odd match on you tube or the highlights posted on social media, because having followed it from 1988 to 2018, it’s in my blood now, for me personally at its core, four riders sliding around an oval track is classic.

( not withstanding track closures)Self interest and fans with money trying their hand at Promoting and be taken for a ride in a lot of cases.Riders dictating when and where they want to ride are just a few of the problems.

old bob at herne bay
Owlerton is quite narrow but with long straights. Always compared it to Kingsmead. Guess on the high revving laydowns - you get it wrong and you will rapidly run out of room.

A great race track until air fences, which narrowed it... I used to watch "reserve/juniors" level riders, absolutely fly around there on a Thursday evening, who then looked like complete and utter novices on the Friday at Kirky Lane with its tighter turns ..
