TNT no more?

Recommended Posts

Although no official announcement has been made, according to the S.Star looks like TNT are no longer going to be covering league racing, and that BSPL are looking for a mainstream partner, as Warner Bros/Discovery may not renew their contract.

The sport is in such a position that it needs to be on one of the five main channels...

That would generate interest levels that would see growth quickly...

And, given the low numbers at most tracks, substantial growth with just a few hundred more attending regularly...

TNT/Eurosport are very much the lesser of the satellite companies anyway...

Even though Warner/Discovery/TNT are bigger than all the competition!

Personally I'm not sure that full, live speedway meetings on any channel - mainstream or others - is the way to go in order to attract more people to actually attend meetings?

A Well-produced highlights package once a week, including a regular 'where-to-watch next week' slot would surely generate more interest.

Good call...

Getting to know the riders at the same time....

Getting those with personalities into the studio....

TNT will certainly not lose any sleep if dropping Speedway. They are well into British BSB,World BSB and Moto GP. Which is run very professionally compared to their Speedway.

As a steer is it worth 6 figures to each team MD ?

I was part of the consortium that tried to bring Eastbourne back and we looked at every league we could enter.

Whilst for obvious reasons I can't say anything, it was a good amount.

I do hope they can get another deal together but can't really see who with.

Channel 4 or 5 might be the best bet? They are both trying to expand their sports coverage.

That would be great and I hope that they are being proactive and targeting them.

At this point, I would think coverage is more important than any monetary gain.

But come on which TV Channel is going to televise a sport with 6 combatants in their league table - not really countrywide for them is it?

So despite being told on here a one division of at least 16 teams won't work I bet the TV folk would prefer it.

Give over...........lots of teams take part in the full competition.

Anyway wouldn't a speedway diehard like yourself enjoy seeing more teams face the Lions throughout a season?

Can’t say I’m really sad about TNT, imo they have done nothing to better the sport

To be fair to any of the TV companies,  it isnt their responsibility to improve the sport...

They provide the platform through their coverage to give the sports they cover the publicity and opportunity to use this platform to increase their profile and, hopefully, their followers and attendees...

The UK promoters have had regular two hour adverts to showcase their sport yet seem quite content on showcasing it as something very few people attend, with swathes of empty seating and terracing being the overriding optics of most domestic meetings..

TNT (and Eurosport), were particularly poor though with their production standards, with graphics often wrong, however, trying to explain a "guest rising star" taking a "rider replacement ride"  to a production assistant to get the graphics right, must have some difficulties... :D
