Riders like Doyle and Woffinson recently claimed that it was a mistake to forgo British speedway as they thought it was beneficial to their GP chances which is why they came back. The top league is a lot better than the Championship in terms of standard which can clearly be seen at Belle Vue where they currently have Bewley and the World's number 2. I just don't think the top riders in the top league would be overjoyed at having to make a trip to Armadale on a Friday night. I also remember the last time they merged the leagues and it was dreadful and so many races were predictable. That's why it never lasted.

I've seen many races from Powderhall & Shawfield in 95/96 & thought the racing was awesome. Of course back then it was a thrill for div 2 fans to see world class riders at their tracks, plus other former div 1 heat leaders. Of course now there's less world class riders racing over here, plus fans will be used to seeing some Prem heat leaders ride in the Champ, so wouldn't be as exciting now as it was 30 years ago I'd suggest

The vast majority of sports are amateur or semi-pro, including olympic athletes. Those competitors make it work but you say speedway riders cannot?

Of course they can, the narrative suits a lifestyle choice albeit a dangerous one.

Harris 8.90

Howarth 7.91

Kemp 7.88

Flint 7.20

total 31.89

8.13 left

Hodder 2.63 would leave 5.48 left for other 3places…

could Glasgow go with a top 4 like this or just 3 out of those 4

Hagon would fit at 3.48 at no2

and a 2.00 rider would be bang on 40.00

So,

1. Chris Harris

2. Sam Hagon

3. Drew Kemp

4. Leon Flint

5. Kyle Howarth

6. Freddy Hodder

7. 2.00er

While that top 4 is insane for the Championship, does that team not have the same issues as this years? A massively long tail. I'm sure Hodder will get better, and realistically a 2.00er (except Rushen who I don't see at Glasgow) isn't going to score lots of points either.

The only reason I say that top 4 is that kemp has been rumoured and I expect Howarth to stay,Hodder needs to be the no7 for them I think going that route they wouldn’t have learned anything from this year.

They don't spend five figure sums on their "kit"....

That is the stumbling block for the sport...

And then to recoup that amount (and much more to justify doing this "job"), riders then have to be available seven days a week to travel around Europe and ride, often with minimal notice should a "guest" opportunity suddenly turn up in the UK, or a team spot, or individual meeting invite, abroad..

The promoters pretty much expect the riders to be "fully professional" and then completely undermine this logic, and expectation, by running the sport the way they do...

That is to say, running it against all the rudimentary basic principles you would expect from a professional team sport...

The sport, in the UK, sadly, has so much now to unpick that it probably never will be able to do it...

As the sport barely runs 6 months of the year now, 'semi-pro' could mean 6 months pro and 6 months working to fund their semi-pro speedway career. Riders may cry about this but if the sport keeps heading in the direction it is then their speedway career will become an amateur hobby. Everyone needs to wake up and realise this.

Unnecessary costs must also be cut so that riders and clubs have a chance at survival.

Agree with that 👍

Can see how you've arrived at this figure - 7.39 less Brit discount as per the final Green Sheets. BUT they are wrong! 7.39 is Nagels final figure and Flint is 7.13 which with Brit discount would be 6.95., Their figures have been transposed,.

Fantastic interview with Gerry Facenna in the (ever excellent), Speedway Star...

He mentions how successful the "Trust The Fans" mechanic has been in driving up crowds...

Many years ago I mentioned to a promoter the very same idea of letting his fans bring someone in for free for three matches to see if they could be enticed to keep attending, with my rationale being "these people are not there now", so "no loss"....

Never mind spitting his tea out, he nearly spit his dentures out!!!!:D

His answer was "some will just take the p**s and come in for nothing"...

I said that that was obviously a distinct possibility but if you explained it well enough, given the loyalty of Speedway fans, not that many would, and the possible long term rewards far outweighed any short term risk...

It didn't happen and his crowds continued to drop.......

Nice to see some promoters actually promoting...

Best of luck to Glasgow...

I would like to see Sam back at Berwick but at reserve which i think was the idea, until Borke was released shoving Sam up to Number 2 where he found the going tough.

Sam at reserve at a track he can perform well on will do him the world of good. A few good scoring meetings to boost his confidence and I think you'll see his overall average fly up.

That probably means that Max Perry would fit as number 7 in that line up. With the entire team benefiting from the Brit reduction, it is likely to do well.

But whilst both Perry and Hodder showed flashes of potential but I'm not sure that Tigers will have them both back
