Has been letting us down for the past two months but wants to continue to let us down instead of us getting a guest. If you’re injured as much as you say you are, don’t ride then use it as the excuse.

Totally agree

It really is a strange situation, and one where the team manager should step in.

Openly admitting an injury is causing him to ride below par, and carrying on because he wants to be in a cup final (where he would no doubt struggle again)

I'm sorry, i'd be looking at a replacement (one who can ride Plymouth would be a bonus)

Scunthorpe tried to do that with Danny Phillips a few years back and the SCB refused and they had to keep using him.  The same would happen here, I believe, as it's too late to make a change to the line-up (i.e sacking a rider). If he says he's fit, then there is nothing they can do about it.  Give him his three rides as quickly as possible and use the other reserve is about the best they can do.

Having said that, Jack is not helping his team one bit and is being rather selfish in this matter by the looks of it. I would surmise that he will probably not get a team place in Northumberland in 2027, because of his actions.

Were he to be sidelined, there could be a different guest each meeting, each able to specialise at one or other if the tracks.    But Jack's average isn't too high just now: 3.12 for both legs.......

Seems a strange statement to make.Is he not letting the club down riding with a debilitating injury .Cant see Stuart Dickson being over the moon.

100% agree, if he was going for sympathy & excuses for form, that only works if he stopped riding.

Because of the guest rule, he's not being a team player & helping Berwick by carrying on.

No-one wants to hear about a rider being in pain, I wouldn't want to watch him racing if I knew he wouldn't be able to sleep at night afterwards.

I guess the team manager could ask him to step down because of his injury, but if the rider wants to ride, what can you do?

From a health & safety point, can the match doctor refuse to allow him to ride, if he felt it was a danger or Smith crashing & injuring himself further or others, by not being fully fit?

Loads of riders carry on with injuries nothing new here.

If he is declared unfit surely the Bandits could use guests? I can't see it making a massive difference anyway but anything is better than nothing.

I’m sure that is correct. However now he has declared himself unfit but willing this might be an issue if Berwick wanted to use guests. I can only assume he has spoken with Jamie and Stuart before making his statement. So maybe they want him riding given his low average, who knows. He deserves to be part of the final but maybe he could have contributed in other areas maybe on the spanners. If he is riding he absolutely needs to at least score his average. Given that our last meeting he on scored one point (in effectively a three man heat) from four rides I’m not confident he can.
