Ipswich and Northampton?

Recommended Posts

If the Ipswich sale does not go through for some reason and they don't come to the tapes this year will that be the end of the premiership dream for all the teams?

Also all this talk of Northampton almost ready to come to the party is there a question over the safety and air fence?

With Spedeworth  owning both Northamptom and Mildenhall  tracks one has to assume that both tracks safety barrier for the cars are very similar. The air fence at Mildenhall was declared unsafe due to the concrete and steel post / wire wall at the of the fence and they were not permitted to join the league even with the extra protection between the air fence and the car fence.  Has something different been designed for the Northampton track to make it acceptable for racing or is the car fence a different design?

Just the thoughts of an old man on a Sunday afternoon waiting for the season to begin. 😊

You are correct on both counts.
the fence has to be a polyfoam barrier but as reported in this week’s speedway star the company that provided the fences has gone bust.

I would expect if the Ipswich sale doesn't go through then a BSPL "lease" arrangement for a season will be attempted to ensure 5 teams

If the Ipswich deal doesn't go through the whole thing might implode.

I think by some method Ipswich will run

The Northampton thing looks too much to do in to short a time to happen to me unless they do run the team from Oxfud/elsewhere in the meantime

I would imagine the cost for any prospective promoter would be prohibitive, of course some contributors on here are far better qualified to judge then me. Just can't see it happening in all honesty but If they do push it over the line then fair play.

They are now in a position where they have to ensure that either Ipswich or Northampton run otherwise the league will collapse

My guess is Northampton is being worked on as the backup option if Ipswich can't however I expect someone somehow will run Ipswich in 26

Don't Scunny and Lynn have sections of foam fence? Where would that leave them?

I spoke to someone last week, not directly connected to Ipswich, but who knows what's going on with the takeover.  He hinted it's 99.99% done, but the new people are very professional and won't say anything until they're ready to make an announcement.  He seemed to suggest it's a good owner for Ipswich, and good for the sport.  (Wouldn't tell me who the new owners are - but my money is on Mayfield).

The fence problem was that it's not an airfence, it's a foam fence, and the foam fence people went into administration.  But it seems they're starting up business again and can supply the fence .

Why would they be the same?  They're a very different size and shape, just like all tracks are different sizes and shapes.  From what I've briefly seen of Northampton, it looks to have quite long straights, so I don't know if they'll bring the bends in to make the Speedway track shorter and wider, rather than run fully on the stockcar track.   I'm no track curating expert.

Edit:  Just checked.   Northampton claims to be 396m, which is very long, so I would imagine one or both bends will come in for Speedway
