IainB
Now the 2026 PL season finally seems to be settled with the announcement of Northampton and the fixtures due out tomorrow... is it too early to start thinking about the 2027 PL season? Never too early for that - needs sorting by late summer if at all possible Will need a big input to be secured from somewhere / a new TV deal etc to be able to maintain or perhaps expand the top league Hopefully big enough to facilitate the elimination of doubling up If that cannot happen then its one big league

Bagpuss
If you believe the bloke in charge then he and Speedway Futures have thought about it already. 1

Steady on Iain! The BSPL will be discombobulating with reckless comments like that.
SteveLyric2
Stewart Dickson and Matt Ford have already stated publicly that 2027 talks should be started now and done by this summer, as team building discussions and talks with riders begin in Aug/Sept for the following season. TheSmiler
I think a lot will depend on how well Northampton does as to whether they return in 2027. With the possibility of Coventry also returning… it wouldn’t surprise me to see the BSPL continue to try and flog the Premiership…

If Northampton works out I fear they will do nothing. They'll just be happy with 6 teams in the premiership I reckon. Even though we all know 6 teams isn't enough.

The current issues will take until the end of this summer to resolve at the very least and even if any final outcome falls in favour of Stox & speedway returning to Brandon, it will take a great deal of time to conclude a sale, clear the site and build a suitable race track and spectator facilities. If we’re lucky then Brandon could be up and running for a full 2028 season but not before.

The local plan has to be agreed before any action can be taken, then there will be the long drawn out CPO process, which you know Brandon Estates will fight against. Then when all that is concluded there will be a lot of work to do on the site, particularly with regards to the grandstand which will have to be completely demolished, and that will be time consuming due to the asbestos contamination procedures. I would love to be proved wrong, but in all honesty I can't see the 'new Coventry' opening before the 2029 season. DaveWayne
10 minutes ago, IainB said: Do you think the local elections in May could have any effect to the local plan etc? Highly unlikely. Local plans are long term strategy documents for development including infrastructure and land use, that often cover a period of up to 15-20 years. They are reviewed on a 5 yearly basis. The local plan is currently out for a 6 week public consultation which started in late January. It will then be submitted to the Secretary of State, along with all the responses, for review and final approval. Even if it is not signed off before the May elections, a new administration at the council will not be able to make changes to the plan at that point.
