I know it's the system and all the riders know it's on the final, and it's 2026, not 1976, but I wonder what the list of speedway world champions would have looked like under this system? For those older enough to remember, would you agree that Dave Jessup, for one, would have been a world champion? Billy Sanders maybe. Of course, the cream rises to the top, and the likes of Mauger, Olsen, Fundin, Penhall, etc. would have still gone on to be world champions, but off the top of my head, Kenny Carter is another who, imo, would have won it at least once. As proven last night, score eight points, and you're in with a shout of winning. Yes, it's over ten rounds, not one, but you get my drift.

Thete was a very long thread on this going right back to the 1930s. 1983 was the year that caused most debate.

@lucifer sam and @norbold were two of the main contributors

Riders should carry their points from the first 5 heats with the meeting finalists getting extra points.  Bewley got no reward for his final race last to first. One of the few entertaining moments

Have a look back at it …. Lambert kicked out at Zmarzlik so he looked back at Lambert and kicked him back ….. Lambert is a jumped up clown most of the time

When will Morris stop flooding the track every 4 Heats somebody needs to get a grip of him.

he seems to want to stick to a certain formula regardless of conditions.  Maybe it’s him trying to be fair to all riders but it’s to the detriment of the spectacle

Morris should not be allowed near a  s/way track just be a "yard -dog " to keep the  meeting flowing !

They should stick with the local track curator who surely knows the circuit the best

I think it stems back to when the local organisers used to be responsible for track prep and ballsed it up on a couple of occasions. With the FIM (fireman Phil) being responsible for it and under their specific control they have nobody else but themselves to blame, if they want to do it that way it'd probably be better to have a recognised track curator travelling with the circus to oversee track prep, Andy Meredith for example.

Always been against outside interference of track prep, we saw it under sky for years a representative called the shots, not the track curator, certainly it shouldn’t be someone like Phil Morris calling the shots, if they must have someone at least have a proper experienced track man assisting but no one knows a track more than the person who does it week in week out.

Riders should get the points they score on the day, 3, 2, 1, 0, it worked well for years and everyone including the fans could understand it, this constant tinkering, last chance qualifying cobblers should be binned.

20 heats, top 8 to two Semis and then a final, it’s fair and no one could argue against it.
