Prediction, should this go ahead: Glasgow 49, Berwick 41, me to cringe at least four times when the presenter says ”Lively Leon Flint” and the announcer to give the wrong time twice, incorrectly confirm the score four times and say the wrong rider won the last race six times. All of which will be supplemented by music more suited to an 80s gay disco than a sporting event.

Hopefully this goes ahead, should be close, we Know that Kevin goes well but first time for Mario, will he fair better than at armadale? Although armadale is tough for most newbies.

I'm sure he'll have had practice laps around Ashfield , unlike his Armadale debut and will put up a better performance. Will he like Berwick, a big fast track surely something he's used to, though Marcin Nowak was spooked on his first visit there.

If I never hear 'lively Leon Flint' again it'll be too soon... see also written references to 'gritty', 'sensational', 'battling' or 'mouth-watering'.

As for the music, I don't mind it, other than the awful 'We're the Glasgow Tigers' but at least they've stopped playing Europe!

What would you suggest, since you don't like 80s discos, gay or otherwise?

Very doubtful that Friday goes ahead but Saturday looks ok always a good atmosphere when Glasgow visits.

FWIW, I’m not against 80s gay disco in the right environment (a 60th birthday party or an Elton John tribute act, for example), but that environment isn’t at a sporting event.

We do a lot very well at Ashfield, but in terms of audible presentation, it’s dreadful. Utterly woeful.

Glasgow - and British speedway as a whole, to be fair - has to rebrand itself, similar to what darts went through.

Instead, we’re forced to endure incorrect announcements relating to riders, scores and times while we’re made to tolerate forced, dated, amateurish broadcasting like ”Lively Leon Flint”.

Would think it may be a late decision as all the riders are at Berwick on Saturday and will have arranhed to stay in Glasgow tomorrow night.

I should have put a wee 😁 after my disco comment... and I don't disagree regarding the presentation, whether that's the announcer or centre-green, both could doubtless be improved.

The music is only a small part of the night's entertainment overall, but the question of what is played as opposed to what 'could/should' be played was raised on social media last season and got a lot of comments but hardly anything specific.

Conversely, it seems that the darts itself is only a small part of that night's entertainment, with most people seemingly only there to get tanked up with the 'sport' happening in the background.

Not sure I understand what you are saying, definitely improving forecast but still doubtful. I think what I was trying to get at was any extra tigers fans coming down because of a missed meeting will only improve Saturday.

Darts has definitely become a spectacle; a blur between sports and live entertainment, but they kick started the rejuvenation by leaning on the characters and the rivalries, big time. Taylor and Van Gerwen, for example.

I feel like speedway has so much potential, but we’re falling terribly short on the absolute basics, like a complete failure to modernise presentation.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to tomorrow night, ”Lively Leon Flint” and ”a win for the rider in orange, Ainsley Harriett, in a winning time of two hours” aside.

Forecast is fine.

Comparing the presentation of second tier British speedway to pro darts is silly. The equivalent is pub darts. The presentation is done by amateurs, and for all its faults it’s no worse than plenty of football presentation. On the list of reasons British speedway is failing, it’s not making the podium. I will say I did enjoy Greg Blair at Berwick, but otherwise I’ll shove my face full of sugar donuts from the first bend and chat to people near me.

Tigers win. Looking forward to the club anthem blaring out as people leave when the match ends.
