That should be some comfort but it really isn't. Oh well, the cards have been dealt and that's that for this season. Hopefully things will be better next year! 2 hours ago, Bagpuss said: Lynn got 37. 6 minutes ago, paulnolan said: I apologise. It was Leicester who were more pathetic than the Foxes this time round. To be fair thinking Kings Lynn are pathetic is generally good logic

No prominent banners, no sponsor board for any of the interviews conducted 🤷♂️ Or come and sponsor Leicester along with JCB and you'll get a couple of banners on the in-field... face down. Dreadful state of affairs

Still, they've made their bed and now they have to lie in it. Still not too late for next season, though. One big league of 15-16 teams, 13 heat matches with a six-heat junior second half. Guests only for number ones, R/R or juniors to be used for other missing riders. Home and away just once, fours and pairs and a proper riders championship, each track having their own invitational event, and with maybe some touring Polish and Swedish sides tempted over for pre-season attractions... One can dream!
topaz325
Hopefully the BSPL have been working on next season if only to outline a potential League structure so plans are in place in plenty of time for 2027 and beyond............

One can dream! Problem is where will they get the riders from for that, personally think best we can hope for is 8 and 8 top league ideally have one top liner each and the bottom four riders in the top league double up in the second division so its financially viable for them. Once home and away which would avoid seeing same teams week in week out and hopefully reduce promoters losses as fewer meetings to underwrite. Would love to see one big league but given they are struggling to get through fixtures in a six team top league can see how they would ever cope with 15-16 teams and as mentioned guessing they would need 30-50 extra riders from somewhere. Still, they've made their bed and now they have to lie in it. 15 teams, seven riders per team, equals 105 riders needed... Nowhere near enough riders of the level needed, so a complete non starter... Heaven forbid, they cut the number of riders to five in a team and just then need 75... I could never get my head around the "we need GP riders back", thought process, as, when the majority of them rode over here 15 years ago, crowds dwindled consistently, just like now.. The very riders who took all the "Golden Ticket" Sky money, then effed off to Poland to take the "Diamond and Platinum Ticket" money when Sky's money disappeared... One league would at least make the sport look like a reasonably sized entity, and have a "national reach and feel"...... The "Optics" of how you are perceived are so, so fundamentally important when trying to sell something…. I have seen Brady and Dan ride at the NSS loads of times, so,watching them scream around the boards is no longer the pull it once was... Especially against the same few riders .... If you can fit them in (and afford them), to a one league structure then great... If not, it means you can run on any night you wish... Obviously though one league would mean no DUing which would mean riders getting paid by just one team... Hence no chance of it happening... marko
At some point they are going to have to give team places to riders who are not ready, you can kick kicking the ball down the road but eventually it will happen, riders like Nicholls etc cannot go on forever. The sport must go back to be more amateur, it’s got to get even worse before it can get better.

Agree, we cant have the shambolic close season that we have just witnessed again, they need to be looking towards next season and beyond, this season has seen even committed fans walk away.

The amount of equipment needed, and quite heavy duty machinery to fix things, must cost a small fortune... Someone has to pay the riders enough to spend such outlays, either through sponsorship or salary... And all to ultimately win.... ??????? It is truly the ultimate race to the bottom for Speedway teams... Who will win next?...

You have to cut back to grow again.

mikebv
Just now, paulnolan said: Agreed! You have to cut back to grow again. And, it really is now or never... With so few "top riders" currently, you won't be cutting back too much if you act now.. 15 teams, home and away once, and maybe some regionalised Cup competition (North and South split, ran like a league, then have cross region Semis and a final), would deliver circa 40 - 50 matches with play offs, depending on how your team does... The current DU's would need to cover their costs over these 40 to 50 matches.. And clubs would need to stand alone in the payments of the current DU's... Which would probably be the huge stumbling block..

It's not a rumour... you only have to turn up and watch him often come out for heat 1 with dirty bikes and race suit... fair play to him though he scores the points... which makes you wonder whether all the meticulous lengths a lot of the other riders go to, especially at the lower levels is really worth it?

Or if he could really be bothered with the prep could he put a point to point and a half on his average as I have said previously if a rider has no lofty ambitions and just wants to earn a good living he is the blue print even allowing for just slinging the gear in the van untouched from the last meeting.

To be fair his kit may be top notch, we don't really know, but it's often not been cleaned 🤷♂️
