Obviously the track changes are planned for this winter, but are the structural changes planned for this winter also or is it something planned for the future?

Seems an awful lot of work to get completed before March/April…

The structural changes are happening very soon afaik. Been planned well before mayfield took over and would have been happening regardless of a future GP

just this weekend foxhall hosted the banger world final championship which was a sell out.  Fireworks night is also normally a 7k attendance if it’s dry.

There's a lot of interest in Gillman (Adelaide), I wonder what the capacity will be?

Crowd capacity supposedly 8,000.

Gillman is a 300 metre track, 13 metres wide on the straights and 15 metres on corners with slight camber. The surface is a dolomite, crushed granite and clay mix

Track Record:  Justin Sedgmen (Vic) — 54.06 seconds. January 2017

Fastest times recorded by the MYLAPS electronic timing since introduced on 4 November 2017:

  • Solo 4 laps Rohan Tungate 54.411sec (3 January 2023)
  • Solo 1 lap Brady Kurtz 12.999sec (3 January 2019)

Its a very good racetrack.

Is that capacity as it stands now or with temporary seating added?

Gillman does not have much comfort to offer. This does not get me excited at all.

Why didn't they go for the grand ole Wayville Showground Speedway right in the center of Adelaide? That would have been a truely awesome venue for a SGP there!

Wayville has since been re-named as the Adelaide Showground.

The main arena at the Adelaide Showground opened in 1925 and once had a capacity of 35,000, but can now cater for around 14,000 spectators. It features a main grandstand, smaller undercover and open grandstands, terracing and grass hill, while lighting allows for night events. The Adelaide Showground continues to host the annual Royal Adelaide Show.

Often referred to as the birthplace of Australian speedway, the venue originally known as the Wayville Showground hosted regular meetings until 1934, attracting large crowds. It again various speedway meetings between 1986 and 2002. It was the home of harness racing in Adelaide from 1934 until 1973, when all meetings moved to the purpose-built Globe Derby Park which had opened in 1969. Crowds in excess of 20,000 were common, with the record attendance of 47,000 achieved for the 1963 Inter Dominion. In 2017, a one-off Friday night harness racing meet was held at Wayville, with around 8,000 fans attending. The venue was also the home of the West Adelaide Football Club in the SANFL from 1927 until 1939, before the club merged with Glenelg during the war years and eventually moved to their current home Richmond Oval when it opened in 1958.
