I think the best thing Northampton could do is sort out the track, if it could be prepared for some half decent racing, that would help significantly to attract supporters on a regular basis.

Premiership 2027 - Are You Interested??
False dawn replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I remember reading an article in the Speedway Express a few (several) decades ago about Japanese speedway. Barry Briggs was involved in bringing this form of the sport to peoples attention. Funny shaped handlebars and tarmac surfaces come to mind. But the main difference was the high level of betting involved. To the extent that riders were locked away for, I think, 24 hours before meetings to avoid anyone nobbling the competitors. Can't see that working over here. -

i do wonder sometimes if gambling could save speedway. then again with guests, etc. is the sport really credible enough? given some of the characters involved, would some take bribes to fix matches -

I wonder if we will ever again hear anything about the fruits of Harrys and the Tory fellas labors or if the powers that be are just hoping its gradually forgotten about. -

As a Lynn fan. That would be great, but none of them have been great this season. We can always hope though. 54-36 ish for me. -
Who really cares the Sport is a shambles. Just look at the line up at Berwick last Sat. Just enjoy the racing while you have still got it.

We have struggled with weekends and only had around 200 at our last Sunday event. Whilst Mondays are infinitely better they are only around 1400-1800 and we look on with envy at Plymouths numbers. I’ll happily have egg on my face come this Saturday at the NSS as I can see British Speedway providing 4000-5000 fans to fill the place out for a weekend fixture. -

I don’t deny that and it’s the case with our league as well. The point is that an extra 1.25% in income for winning doesn’t represent the big prize needed to give relevance and jeopardy as has been stated. -
Maybe that new rule for certain teams " in the best interests of the sport" and Godfrey

Plus Nick Morris and Jordan Jenkins (two of the Bandits who figured in Berwick's superb revival over Poole on Saturday night) guesting for the Pirates.

Plymouth have disproved that. It may be an anomaly but more than likely not. Run weekends and allow people to plan - arrange fixtures well in advance and stick to them - and you should reap rewards. As long as you put the work in alongside, too, obviously. -

Kings Lynn have the potential in their team to do a lot better than recent visiting teams, especially if Fricke, Cook, and Kvech are on it. -

Coventry introduced Greyhounds (1990's I think), rather than it being a Greyhound stadium. -

The Polish clubs get significant support from their local authorities some of whom actually own the stadium. TV income works hand in hand with major advertisers and the clubs sponsors which enables the teams to fund the promotion at a profit (but sometimes not all of the time) the big factor re income and success is gate receipts. If teams do well and or the table toppers are in town then gates remain good. Not so if the club is having a poor season v another struggling team. -

This should be at least as good as last week’s meeting with almost every race “out of the top drawer”. Lynn have a good few racers in their team and I can see them contributing to more speedway for the connoisseur.
