Just tell them not to ride on the inside, they will be fine. 😅 -
Park’s submission suggests your conclusions are correct. Why would someone not personally involved in development, presumably having nothing to gain, want the stadium demolished? Park’s involvement was solely with the speedway promotion so the fate of the Abbey should be irrelevant unless…

Looks like a reasonable setup to me where there is a will there is a way and the foundations for a track are there not just a field.I'm sure more informed individuals will give a whole raft of issues and problems but IMO for s/way it looks a definite possibility. -

What you can't see on those photos is that the grassed area on the inside of the bends is raised several feet from the track, has steel plate on the track side of it, and there is no longer an inner kerb so the shale goes right up to the plating. - Today

Looks the same as most tracks in the UK. Get an air fence and you are ready to go -
Doubling Up is cost effective for both leagues as they both can share the wages of the rider.. The top league certainly couldn't afford to pay third HL's and Second Strings what they earn collectively from their two jobs, given the GP riders will be high earners... And, if no doubling up, the second tier could only maybe afford one of these riders each in their teams, (rather than 3 which some have), resulting in them having to fill the bottom end of their teams with several NDL level riders... What started out as a laudable development tool has been allowed to become a farce.... Driven by the usual lack of any mid or long term plan to develop enough riders to compete (especially), in the 2nd tier...

I don't think anyone sees them as "saviours of speedway".. They are just another company coming into the sport... Hopefully, at Ipswich, they can ensure the season runs smoothly and crowds hold up for them... And at GP level, they just deliver the GP's... Those who have gone before haven't set the bar too high so anything "average" will suffice.... And, if they cannot deliver that, then, given the sports following, hardly anyone will notice anyway...

Good to hear Flagrag although I fear they may need the deep pockets, hopefully they have a credible long term plan and won't be off if the first season flops. -

It’s wrong league for Middlo. He only operates in the lower league these days. -

“Don’t feed the troll,” they cry — I’m starting to wonder, does that mean you need your nappy changed, or do you just enjoy soiling yourself in public? Some of the people on this thread seem allergic to facts — it’s as if they’re competing with my grandkids (who, for the record, haven’t even graduated kindergarten). Do they stick their fingers in their ears, shut their eyes, and scream whenever something inconvenient pops up? It’s honestly pitiful watching supposed grown adults act like toddlers, simply because easily verifiable and publicly available information doesn’t fit their fantasy that ‘Mayfield Sports Events’ — or whatever name they’re using this week — are somehow the saviours of speedway. - Yesterday

It's like Richard Branson. They say he's a brilliant businessman, but have you tasted his homemade Vol-au-Vents? I found the pastry too flaky, and not enough filling. The bloke can't cook. I was up for a big deal, but they put me right off. -

Premiership Predictions 2026
PotteringAround replied to TheTopDrawer's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
1. Sheffield - Decent top 3. (Though C Holder on the slide a bit). Need Rowe to perform as last season, and Flint to bring his reserve form into the main body. 2. Belle Vue - Powerhouse top two. If the younger members can keep improving, they have a chance. 3. King's Lynn - Best side for years, but feel more like individuals than a team. If they all fire, they'll be hard to beat. 4. Leicester - Solid enough, but might be lacking in heats 13 & 15 against the above 5. Ipswich - Unless they sign a big name, having Brennan at No.1 is a tough ask. Will be solid throughout, and if the rumour of getting a heat leader like Thorssell on a reserves average is true, it will boost them. 6. Northampton - Unless they have something special up their sleeves it could be Lidsey, Wright, Lawson as top 3. Enough riders out there to build a strength in depth team, but not play-off winners. -
Doubling up is the sport’s biggest problem for me. Whilst you could accuse riders of being greedy, they are only going along with what the controlling body permits. For that reason, you cannot blame riders for wanting to maximise their earnings. We all know that Premier League footballers are paid obscene money…..but if someone is prepared to offer these amounts? The BSPA are afraid of the (short term) consequences of doing away with doubling up, but it is essential for the future of the sport if it is to move forward. As I’ve said previously, riders should only be allowed to double up if they’ve been kicked in the b*lls.

Mayfield Sports Events Ltd. is indeed a different company from Mayfield Sports Management Ltd. The latter now trades as Junefield Associates Ltd. It was subject to a winding up petition (when called Mayfield Sports Management Ltd.) in November 2024 by Craft Bamboo Holdings Ltd., who claimed to be the main creditors of the company. No results of the hearing in early 2025 were published and - as the company still exists - one can presume the case was either withdrawn or thrown out. Now, where the lines become blurred, is the fact that a third company called Mayfield Motor Sports Ltd. owns 75% of the shares of Mayfield Sports Events Ltd. (which has been an active company since 2017). Interestingly, Anoushka Coleman is listed as the sole director of that. There was also a winding up petition launched against Mayfield Sports Events Ltd. by The Nexthash Group Ltd. in 2024. However, this was dismissed in court. -
International Test Matches

Presumably the idea would be to run the series on Monday or Thursday nights so all the riders would be available. I could see TV being interested more than they are in league racing. Draw decent crowds and it'll look much better on TV. There is an imbalance in the teams so maybe employ a grading system? GP riders 4 grade points, PL heat Leaders grade 3, Under 25's grade 1, Under 21's grade zero and anyone else grade 2. Build a team of 8 to 16 grade points. 4's Kurtz, J Holder, Bewley, Lambert, Doyle, Fricke, Woffinden 3's Lidsey, Brennan, Douglas, Masters, Pickering 2's Z Cook, King, Ellis, Lawson, Harris, B Cook, Howarth, Wright, Tungate, C Cook, C Holder, Morris, Nicholls, Allen 1's Rew, D Thompson, Edwards, Kemp, Rowe, Flint, McDiarmid, Bowes 0's Zischke, Harrison, Loftus, Cairns, Rushen, Scott, Bailey Not an exhaustive list and I might have gotten some ages wrong but you get the idea. GB: Bewley, Lambert, Woffinden, Harris, Thompson, Rowe, Cairns, Rushen vs AUS Kurtz, J Holder, Lidsey, Cook, Rew, McDiarmid, Bowes, Zischke Might be a fair contest and better product. Better chance of covering for injuries as well and less expensive for the promoters but you're still delivering a bona fide international test match. Appreciate Internationals should be unlimited but these days you have to think about the product and nobody is going to want to see another Aussie free for all. -
No but to be fair you don’t get 14 riders of that standard in the national league either. Only the heat leaders

Those in charge of the sport have created their own self inflicted nadir. It is not just about Ipswich or Mayfield (assuming they are officially the new owners of the Witches) it is collectively where the sport goes from here. Club owners/promoters are treating loyal supporters with such contempt, riders think the punters owe them a living and the up and coming talent is squeezed out by the double uppers who selfishly could not care one iota about the pipe stream of potential talent that is trying to break into the sport. Promoters, management and double uppers are the ruinous tribe who are bringing the sport to its knees and for it to survive a radical shake up is needed. Ipswich have ignited an issue but in reality the sport is on its knees and things need to change.
