Putting Paco's calamity celebration to the side, last night's meeting was a great example of what speedway should be like. Good track, passing, nip and tuck all meeting, riders pushing for the full 4 laps and a super heat to put the cherry on top. Well done to both teams.

They have to cut back to grow. It's the only sensible option. Which means it's off the table.

This is sport where clubs will sack riders, with immediate effect, for doing better than they were expected to do, when needing to make two replacements, with zero "offence" being taken by their fanbase.... And also, should riders refuse to ride due to not getting paid, they then get a 28 ban for "withholding their services" hanging over them.. Not sure anyone should expect major commitment from riders....

What a night, didn't really expect that, thanks Paco for gifting us the chance, he should realise that Kevin never gives up, do all the showboating after the race was won. Thanks to Nick Morris for an outstanding performance and to Reid Battye for his contribution having never seen the place before. I suspect we will be having to use guests until the end of the season unless we managed to get a signing before last night. Hope Dan is okay, we may end up doing it all again in the playoffs if we both finish 2nd and 3rd

Poor performance from the Young Stars, felt like the Academy were there for the taking but apart from Lambert all of the Lynn team underperformed. Well done Edinburgh.

I like Lawson, despite the stuff he doesn’t put effort into and really should, but these non appearances seem to be coming a bit more regular and he can have a disagreement in an empty room sometimes. I get that speedway isn't his main job but there is a certain level of commitment that British Speedway and its paying customers are entitled to.

Agree about doubling up but the bits in bold just wont work if you want to share riders with other leagues, set race nights in our top tier are a must. Championship teams can race when they like but they can't be signing riders who are going to be committed elsewhere in Europe on a regular basis and miss UK meetings.

Was there independent bike/engine testing at Ipswich on Thursday night?

I think a League with UK Sweden and Denmark just could be an answer for the sport over here .. The "professional teams", could join and let the "hobby teams" ride in their own Championship... If only 3 teams currently want to ride in a top tier then they can join up with the 16 Scandinavian teams, giving 18 home matches, plus any play offs... And that would leave a 12 team Championship with non Poland contracted riders.. Using Denmark's system would mean just 15 riders needed over here.. It would create strong interest from the many who no longer attend regularly I would think, and also likely get TV coverage, and some decent sponsorship... Pay rates are not too different in either of the three leagues below Poland, so rider costs wouldn't be much different, with travel and accommodation being the only add on, however, many riders fly in and out now from country to country so even that wouldn't be too much of a big difference.. You would also get to see every top rider in the world over here, once, or twice if reaching the play offs.. A bona fide sporting league that has kudos, with different teams of only riders contracted to them, some you only get to see once, with regular meetings, ticks a lot of boxes that UK Speedway currently doesn't..

I personally would like to keep 2 leagues as I think one big league would cause a gulf in talent between riders and teams. I would like to make 2 simple changes for next season: 1. Premiership teams can race on any day apart from Saturday and Sunday. Championship sides ride on any day. - Riders can still compete in the Polish 2nd + 3rd division - More favorable nights for Poole, Glasgow and many other current championship teams - Polish 1st division riders would miss very few meetings if they joined a team without Friday as their race night 2. Only 2 riders per championship team can double up: - Aim to stop doubling up by 2029 - Allow a bigger gap between the championship and premiership as the products are way too close

One possible downside with just eight home meetings could be that the stadium owners think it is no longer worthwhile renting the stadium to a speedway club or would the owners impose rent increases to match the income they had before the reduction in meetings. One way might be for all top sides to run NDL teams fortnightly but I do not know the costs etc so it may not be viable. For sure, if stadium owners do not get a decent income then they might just think it is time to sell up and take the capital gain and invest in something else. I know it is unclear why Arlington has closed but when you think of the way that was filled on a regular basis and yet Spedeworth had the rug pulled says it all about the state of oval stadia in this country. Few are really 100% safe and because of that speedway is not in a good position. With the decline in the number of stadia owners willing to allow oval sports that makes it hard to attract decent investment and you could see a time where just a few tracks remain and either compete in a European league(if rules permit) or those that remain stage individual meetings and international meetings. Difficult one for all involved to resolve going forward.

The funny thing is that speedway is a small world. Every one knows which riders sit in the back of their vans smoking rope, which ones take the Columbian marching powder, which ones who are generally “wrong un’s” and are to be avoided. it ain’t a goody goody clean sport, the promoters know too. if someone is willing to offer him a contract, more fool them.

Yet? He is number one at both clubs and has only missed a couple of meetings for good reason. Poole fans clearly don't use the same vitriolic criticism as Ippo fans.

That might be the best and funniest thing I’ve ever saw in a speedway meeting.

I’ve just watched the race, what was castagna doing what a clown, if I was the manager and his team mates I’d be raging, never mind what the paying public on the monarchs side thought, unbelievable

Hey mate, It's not a development issue as stated, the safety certificate has been withdrawn from the stadium. Around 18 months ago planning for an 'eco village' was turned down and the council made it clear that planning for housing will never be granted on the rural side of the A22.

Quite enjoyed last night. The banter is usually good between the fans. Wonder if Berwick will put Nick at 3 when they travel to Armadale. He scored a lot of points from the middle of the team when racing for Edinburgh (Paco) and again last night.
