Why is speedway in decline?
SpeedwayJoe replied to Youhave2minutes's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
My hope was that this season the speedway authorities would bring in someone INDEPENDENT to go round the tracks, talk to riders, fans and officials to bring in some radical changes for next season. Speedway is unfortunately on its knees and needs a radical rethink. We may not like the plans, but some speedway is better than no speedway which is where I feel the sport is going. -
Craig was nominated for a Golden Double ride in heat 18 because his team were more than 6 points behind. It looked like Craig thought he would be starting from the tapes but the rules stated 15 metre handicap. He came off gate 4 and stuck to the outside line getting nowhere on what was a track slicker than usual compounded by challenging weather with sun and strong breeze. Don't think Craig finished the race. He didn't come out for his final race in heat 20 and took no part in the semi finals. Charles Wright also took no part in the semi finals but his team Deadfire Demons won the team event with 30 points. He was impressive being unbeaten in his 4 rides. Of the Scandinavians 21 year old Dane Rasmus Pedersen (9 points) was the pick on the day imo with fellow Dane 18 year old Patrick Kruse (7 points) along Swedish riders 25 year old Anton Karlsson and 22 year old Ludvig Selvin with 6 points each not far behind.

I think its the case with new/possible replacement riders being rarer than hen's teeth these days they are stronger continuing with rider replacement and keeping him on the sidelines for as long as possible, same situation at Lynn with Castanga. Oh for the days when you could take a chance on an overseas rider who quickly turned into a gem like Chris Holder and Jimmy Nilson etc. Maybe if something comes of this Ipswich, Polish club link up some under 24's might be sent the UK's way with any luck.

Why on earth is Bowes still a Poole rider? Signs Middleditch has lost his mind now knocking on? Back in the day he would of been booted out a long time ago. Seems Cook can't be bothered this season and Lawson hasn't been his dominant self, infact he hasnt since the whispers of fuel tank testing started circulating. Getting hammered by that many by Berwick is embarrassing .

And in a Semi Final of the Knockout Cup too... You would think they would at least try when they get to this stage to give it some kind of respect.. Anyhow, good luck to both teams in the final, hopefully both can run with their own riders and give UK Speedway a Cup Final worthy of the name... It would be great to see Plymouth absolutely rammed full, which I think it could well be....

Well done to The Bandits , Enjoyable meeting in tough dusty conditions. Great team performance with everyone chipping in, I thought Poole as team were pretty disappointing I’d expected more from them, as a guest I’d have expected Lambert to pick up more points especially at reserve but sometimes that’s the way things go, Lawson is usually pretty decent but there wasn’t a lot of support for him and Kerr . The Rushen / Etheridge incident looked completely different from sitting in the stand to seeing the footage on tv later from sitting in my seat in the stands the Poole rider looked to be at fault seeing the clip I’m not sure , anyways it’s a final to look forward too and it’s been a while since we’ve been able to say that.

Think we need to calm down a tad, we were outridden in both legs and we can rue this and that but at the end of the day with low scoring reserves and heat leaders not performing we aren’t going to win. Berwick fully deserved the result and I have already sent my congrats, cooper was unlucky yes but would it have changed the outcome I don’t think so. Riders have to earn a living so riding in other leagues and countries is a given. We regroup and move on to the next match.

Always nice too see the Scottish clubs do well and I include Berwick’s performance also. Now I’ve got the Praise for the Monarchs off my chest I’m away for a lie down. -

Big result for Edinburgh against one of their play-offs rivals. -
Well done to Berwick on a great all round team performance, they were much better than us and seemed to want it more, we were a little unlucky home and away with refereeing decisions going against us but overall we had no answers to a very good Berwick team. Good luck to them and hope they win the cup.

Berwick v Poole 27/06/26 KO Cup Semi- Final 2nd Leg 7-00pm

Always good to hear about Poole missing out on trophies. GGGGOOOOOOOODDDD Team Berwick, Good Team. Pilots took one hell of a beating. -
Well done to Berwick. So many teams have already conceded everything to Poole this year - at least one did it before the season had started with their team line up - but the Borders’ fellas weren’t going to lie down. Poole are still the dominant team as is obvious from the snidey remarks from the usual suspects and haters, but Berwick never know when they’re beaten. It’s now up to the others to take up the challenge and put some oomph into the season. Will Poole still continue to dominate? Probably. But at least the won’t have it all their own way.
