Is It Finally Time For One League?
1 valve replied to TheSmiler's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Currently there are 17 teams across the Premier & Championship leagues. This will be reduced to 16 next year with the loss of Birmingham. So on the basis that all other clubs will run next year, for team of five 80 riders will be required Remove doubling up, riders contracted to Ekstraliga and Danish/Swedish nationals with contracts to race in their domestic leagues that clash with UK "race nights" simply means there will be insufficient availability of riders for sixteen teams - not counting loss of riders through injury. Given the above considerations and as well as ensuring "Juniors not good enough" are not unmercifully thrown into the deep end, there would be an available pool of riders next year to make up no more than 10 teams but more likely nine. So rather than just discuss the merits of one league, maybe the discussion should consider which eight or nine team would take part - and what admission price would be considered appropriate. -

Absolutely lovely to see Scott Nicholls back on a bike, and great to see him get such a great reception from both Plymouth and Oxford fans. He got better as the meeting progressed, clearly still knows the fastest way around Sandy Lane. -
I was there at Oxford Stadium when that photograph was taken (on the far side of the track). Mike Patrick was obviously a legend at Oxford and in the sport in general.

Looks to me as if Aug 7 is only clash as Solkatterna probably won't make play-offs.

One thing I have just noticed is Poole have completed more matches than any other team so the Fords also seem to be good at getting matches on and out of the way where some teams have raced just over half of the Poole completed fixtures , or is it just being down South they are in a drier part of the country. The issue is again you have weeks in summer with nothing happening at many clubs then a bit of rain and you can see loss making double headers being crammed into back end of September early October.

Zischke didn’t ride for Workington last night( injured)so if it’s him, got to be doubtful? Also why is Mulford not riding?Apparently 4 other riders who are competing in the same event, taking place on Saturday night!! are riding for their clubs at Glasgow on Friday, so why can’t he ride for his Club???He hardly ever rides for Redcar, missing next week as well I believe, how can you have weeks and weeks without a match, then when you do have one, riders are not turning up?
