  2. Ipswich were tipped early doors to win last season, two weak teams in Birmingham and Oxford, lets not pretend last season was a classic season it wasnt the Premiership has been on the slide for a few seasons. A club can only build to win, Louis actions didnt help and then having to rush Northampton in late too wasnt ideal. Will next season be any different? There doesnt appear to be much ambition with clubs wanting to move up, lets see how the mooted Polish rules have an impact. As Kyle Howarth stated even riders are bored with the repetition, will be interesting to see how things are come next spring.
  3. If that is right, I am more worried than ever about the ruling body. A team manager determining what the SCB says in its public pronouncements surely can't be right?
  4. Mark Phillips has announced that £19K has currently been raised for the air fence but if the target number isn’t hit by the AGM then the Gladiators won’t be racing in ‘27, and the licence will go on ice for a year and Plymouth will return in ‘28. Seems he was told by two investors/sponsors that they would cover the cost and they then changed their minds. However, one good bit of news is that the AGM which was due for November 3rd has been POSTPONED! There is no new date scheduled at the moment so this gives the club more time to raise the funds. Also begs the question why has the AGM been postponed? What has suddenly happened for this to happen? TV deal for the Premiership?
  5. So Plymouth Owner Mark Philips reckons he may put their licence 'on ice' for 12 months if he is unable to fund a new air fence after being let down by 2 'investors'. Also the BSPL AGM has been postponed from 3rd November!! New date TBA.
  6. Was in Lymm village this afternoon and came across the Peter Collins World Champion 50th Anniversary Exhibition:- https://www.lymmhic.co.uk/pc Free admission and PC is book signing on Saturdays in October. It was a little busy but will go attend again when it's less busy.

  9. With Masters and Killeen signed, and seemingly Brennan, could the team be: Sam Masters Jody Scott Luke Killeen Mitch McDiarmid Tom Brennan 2 x 2 pointers (Senna Summers/Ashton Vale/Harry Fletcher, or unearth an Aussie that can get a UK passport). More likely only 1 of Scott and McDiarmid would be signed, maybe with Kennett, Ritchings and 1 x 2 pointer
  10. Today
  11. Surely just about every promotion/team has been burnt by Cook and his antics over the years that he has to be a last resort option for any team building. No doubting his ability but the baggage he unfortunately brings with him means the risk is a lot higher than the reward
  12. Think Oxford will go down the top heavy 3 heat leaders/big hitters route along with Kileen and have quite a weak tail end, they’ve tried the 2 heat leaders and solid engine room but just not worked as ended up again with weak reserves, maybe this is the way to go to secure play off speedway in 2027
  13. Still cant find anything with substance apart from your post to make me think this is happening, I do hope I'm wrong but cant see it.
  14. This issue here for me is that you get those like the comments above bemoaning the play off “qualifiers’ as non events with little riding on them, but a top team winning the league would be far worse in that regard so I’ve never understood this argument. If a dominant team starts to run away with it like Belle Vue this year, then what jeopardy is there for 99% of fixtures from mid-season onwards? Virtually every team in that scenario is riding for nothing. Lynn’s season for example would have been dead and buried with months of the season left (as well as everyone else’s bar Sheffield) but their season remained alive right up until the final week of the season when Ipswich defeated Leicester. There’s more meaningful league fixtures in a play off set up than there is in a “top of the table wins” scenario it’s as simple as that.
  15. Agree what you said about Picko. MPT is a tough one, had a disappointing season mostly, but then came good, which most fans remember. I think Mountain went backwards, should have been looking to become a number 5, rather than drop to reserve, but that now means he looks to be on an attractive average. Ablitt actually got half a point knocked off for missing 2025, which he put back on his average, so sounds like a good signing for the season. I've not seen enough of him to comment, but plenty seem to not want him back? Hook, very accurate explanation. Ingram, I'd definitely want him back, this year has shown how valuable having a strong home team is.
  16. Correct. Trick was quite vocal at the time as well and was clearly unhappy that he was forced out. Shame it all ended that way.
  17. For me the play offs are wrong the team that is the most consistent throughout the season and finish’s top should be crowned champions.I would go with doing away with the knockout cup in its present format. To enter it make it just for the teams that finish in the top 4 . You could then draw the teams out of the hat .
  18. If Riss can go the whole winter without any medical issues, he definitely seems a better rider than his average. I don't think it's a big a risk as some make out, it's not like you'd have to replace him with a 3.00 NL rider should he have an episode (providing he starts the season). Cook would be a greater risk, you can almost guarantee he won't last the season, as sad as that is to say. If they announce riders one at a time (how i like it) we can do the maths & see who fits etc.
  19. Shows you can't listen to rumors, read on the forum more than once about Masters going to Poole.
  20. I like the idea of the top 9 riders being shared amongst 9 clubs. If someone like Brennan wants to come back, make it the top 8 from last year & Brennan. I certainly don't want a situation where someone misses out.
  21. I think he left at the right time & credit to him for being brave enough to do so. Obviously it hasn't worked out, maybe the pre-season injury had something to do with that? If riders want to be world class, need to leave Champ behind i.e Doyle, Douglas, Ben Cook. But if you just want to earn a living (nothing wrong with that) just double up forever like a Sam Masters or Richard Lawson? British Speedway needs riders in both categories, so while I think Brennan dropping down will be a step back, can understand the reasoning after a poor 2026.
  22. From what I remember at the time it was a choice or Rickardsson or Gollob to stay at Foxhall in 99. John & Magda chose Gollob polish ties & all that. That then led to Rickardsson & Weston departing for Lynn Western had Swedish ties. Western then tried to take Chris too.
  23. So many of the issues faced goes back to the lack of any real prestige, publicity and financial reward for winning any of the domestic titles.. If that could somehow be fixed then everything else just falls into place... You could have a "decent prize", and a trophy, (like Rugby League does for example), for topping the table and then a separate "main prize" for winning the play offs.. Meaning each meeting has something riding on it .. Unfortunately, there appears almost to be not enough relevance to the sport in the UK, other than providing riders with a decent six month income and promoters with an expensive hobby they can indulge in... Play Off final crowds show there is a more than decent following still for Speedway, they just need to find a way to get, at least, a few hundred of those who attend the play offs only to attend, even only occasionally, during the rest of the season.. Can they do it?...
  24. The play offs are such a dichotomy, on the one hand they can and often do provide great crowds for the finals BUT for the period between the season starting and then its a lame duck financially wise. The play offs are here to stay but they simply must find a way of making the qualifying matches actually mean something because one meeting is not going to pay for all the rest, and for those who don't make the finals, they are on a hiding to nothing. Maybe only meeting the other teams once would help? yep that's just five home league meetings but if your losing money every time you run, the answer is run less often, and if you run less often, people will make more effort to come because now your dealing with limited chances to watch certain terms and sometimes certain riders.
  25. A team that regularly delivered the best crowds wherever they visited.. A perfect example of "UK Speedway Vision"...
