Hmmmmm was it really any better though? Not sure myself, probably seemed it as stadiums were packed full with great atmospheres but the actual action was no better IMO.

An expensive night out if all four of them had to pay to get in. Thank goodness for press passes when Eric Linden turned up in later years, at Wimbledon in particular, accompanied by Angus Kix, Rick Eldon, Danny Carter, James Oldfield, Bob Charles and co. Ronnie Greene clamped down on the number of free passes during the 1950s but Eric always sneaked his 'mates' in unseen. Perhaps he had copied John H's earlier methods.

Now that was "proper speedway..." not the rubbish we get served nowadays!

If needed, they can open the overflow car park (with permission) of the Kart track, can they not (as they did for the CLRC).

My mother was at New Cross when the great Tom Farndon was fatally injured so she was there well before 1946

I would suggest Dave doesn't know and neither do I as this lad hasnt been on a 500 before the last few weeks but someone obviously rates him as they have selected him before several other candidates including Katie Gordon and local prospects Goldsbrough and Davison.

Bet he’ll be pleased that a fan is making no effort with his name whatsoever, I can’t tell if you’re mocking it or not, as you’re no where near. It’s Zischke.

Hello all Is anyone going to Inzell or Heerenveen this year? Luckily for me I'm going to manage to both, first Ice Speedway events for me since Covid. A shame that the awesome Russian riders will not be there, hopefully that cloud will be silver lined with a very open battle for the championship.

As Dave Lanning commentated at the time, something akin to "and Carter carves up the Collins' boys." Super race in extremely testing conditions. I was there and travelled down from West Yorkshire. Half way down the M1 you would never have believed that they'd get the meeting on. The motorway resembled a swimming pool in some places! Great meeting though with lots of controversy to boot!

Perhaps there's something wrong with me but in my peak days of watching speedway - at Halifax in the late 60's and in the 70's - I attended religiously whether the team won or lost. It was entertainment, it was exciting and it was a way of life. Deciding not to attend because your team is losing is like stopping going to the cinema just because you happened to see three bad films on the trot.
