Scunthorpe Scorpions Vs Plymouth Devils ( P L) - Sunday, April 24th (6.30pm)

Recommended Posts

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions commence their Premier League fixtures with the visit of Plymouth Devils to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (6.30pm).

Zdenek Holub will be missing, as he is still sidelined with a shoulder injury – it is hoped that the Czech Republic international is back in action at Berwick on April 30.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey explains: “Zdenek had a try out in the Czech Republic, and his shoulder isn’t quite right yet.

“He’ll sit out the home match against Plymouth this week, and we’ll again use the rider replacement facility for him. We’re hoping Zdenek will be fit for our visit to Berwick a week on Saturday.”

After an indifferent League Cup campaign, which began with a bang with an away win at Ipswich, but fizzled out, Scorpions are looking to start their league campaign with a victory against Plymouth, who were saved from closure earlier this month.

“I’m delighted that Plymouth were saved from closure”, added Godfrey, having afforded every assistance he could to the Devils in his role of vice-chairman of the BSPA. “No-one ever wants to see a speedway track close, and there’s no doubting the passion of the supporters down in Devon.

“But we can’t afford to be charitable on Sunday. The League Cup did end up being a bit of a disappointment for us, but everyone starts afresh again in the Premier League.

“The league is our No 1 priority, and we won’t under-estimate the Devils. We need to make sure we do the job at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday and emerge from the meeting with three precious league points in our account.”

Not many posts on this thread. Surely a good chance of Scunny's first home win?? The home side have the slightly better top 3 but the visitors the better reserves around EWR imo.

Im predicting Josh Baileys first win today, going to go for 50. 40 and depends on which Josh A and Carlos turns up,

Not a bad prediction there NBT.. Little Josh got his win, and a fine ride it was too... his riding deserved more than his paid six tally.

Big Josh and Wilko came to the fore too... match winning performances.

Plymouth didn't really have a potent point scorer tonight.. Scunny fully deserving the win.

Surely big Josh will be in the Scunny WC semi final ? saying that knowing how British speedway is run they will probably bung him in at Glasgow. Two big sixteen point home totals out of four matches be great if Josh can really get some continuous double figure scores. Edited by Sidney the robin

i didnt expect a t/r, so if charle g had 3 points i had the score right,,,,,disapointed with the crowd though, seemed very sparse, side efeect of the league cup efforts? were they sat at home waiting to see what happens before commiting to furthur meetings?even some from plymouth even bothered to come

well done to both teams for an excellent meeting

First meeting of the season for me this one. Wasn't the best of starts to the meeting but the racing certainly got better as the meeting when on. Got to say it was the first time I had seen Young Josh Bailey ride and he's very impressive a lot of people said he would struggle this season but from what I saw today, Josh could certainly turned out to be one if not the best of the number 7s there is by the end of the season.

Enjoyed last night and was really impressed with little josh even when at the back always on the pace and looking like he can pass and score, great ride from Alex when off 15 without those two points Plymouth would of gone away with a point. Didn't think crowd was to bad considering what had gone before remember if you win they will come.

I know some supporters were put off because of the cold weather forecast... As it was, turned out much milder than expected, was somewhat warmer than it was earlier in the afternoon... Almost tropical for scunny.

A good result for Scunthorpe last night. Not able to attend but picked up the scores online. Great that Josh B is getting some real help from you guys. We supporters of KL young Stars are very proud of him and it was good to go to Pboro and support him (despite the score), also met some great Scunthorpe fans . His rides for Scunthorpe have been excellent for him and he was very impressive at KLYS first meeting of the year, he was flying . With some (not all) negative publicity for the new 3 point system , it helps young riders like Josh, and the others, on the ladder. A great battling rider who will fight for every point. Please keep supporting him and look after him. We need young GB riders to come on otherwise we shall be supporting teams with few GB riders like PL football, it is great to have the imports but even nicer to see home riders establish themselves.
