King's Lynn Stars 2017

Thing is, these bikes aren't much different to our PL days and we had no problems with the deep stuff back then.

The tracks only gone slick since the step back up to the top league.

It may be coincidental that we had slick track specialists in the Danish riders in the team.

It also may be coincidental that the Dane's finished bottom yesterday because the track was grippy, same as last year's SWC.

To get the racing back to it's best at the AFA the change in shale is step 1, just need to make it deeper and tell the rider's if they don't like it to deal with it or get lost.

Entertainment has to be the main focus.

I might be way off here, but could it be that Lynn is fast with longish straights, and with the bike's engines always changing and need to be revving hard that has made Lynn not the exciting track it used to be.

A lot of riders(more so their bikes) don't like lots of dirt anymore.Something that Lynn had back in the day when the engines were less peaky.

Would be nice to get a riders point of view but maybe take the curbs in and make the track shorter but a lot wider and have the maximum banking allowed(10% I think).

Any ex riders that can give there opinion.

Totally agree 100% :t:

Shale has been done.I don't think it will make much difference myself..I see what your saying about making it deeper and telling the riders to deal with it of do one ,but I guess Buster is giving them what they ask for(might be wrong).

I agree entertainment has to be high up on the list, but having a happy camp of riders is needed as well.

Keep it as it is(the dirt) and make the track shorter and a lot wider might even it up between the riders( bit slower racing,so not needing max horsepower) or as you say, chuck more dirt on and let them get on with it. :t:

For me I really look forward to the start of the season, and then once the season gets under way the quality or rather the lack of it starts to grind me down. Have to say this has happened over the last few years when the track has failed ( is it the tracks fault or the curator ?) to deliver.

The sad thing about speedway is it is such an exciting sport when produced correctly but a real pile when it its not. The potential is massive, but sadly I can see it becoming an amateur Sport run as it is now, in this Country.

Enjoy it while you can

It will become an amateur sport or semi pro ( if it does continue at all ) . As well as fans it will be losing sponsors ( or failing to attract new ones ).

I am sure we all agree with needing "scrumptious" speedway as at event 2 in the World Cup and I hope those in positions to influence the BSPA to think in that way ( and take any positive steps to make it happen - please do so ). It is scary and disappointing that the Chairman's track has usually provided only dire racing this season. A shift in thinking seems needed if speedway, as we know it is to continue and not be further diluted.

But maybe it is only when it is much more diluted, will it improve and attract a paying audience on the terraces?

It is slightly worrying that this track which is getting a lot of flack, and rightly so, having watched the meeting on saturday is run by the Chairman of the bspa. Surely the chairman should be looking to set standards for the rest.

While the stock cars keep bringing in hundreds of thousands of pounds a year the track will be set up to suit them and not bikes unfortunately.

Having seen Stock Car racing on Premier Sport I must say that they would have to PAY me to go and watch this. But then again i wouldn't go to the end of my garden to watch football either (22 fairies running around a field)

I was of the same opinion but I'm not so sure now.

I'd notice recently that after a speedway meeting the track is striped and reworked for the stockcars and visa versa.

So there's actually no reason why different materials can't be used for both sports and I'm guessing that's now what will happen.

What was the track like for the recent World Cup event there ? Did it produce decent racing or was it the same old pony ?

The same old one trick pony! Tapes to flag after the 2nd bend. There were only four passes. Next week will be my last if it is no better. I have watched at KL since they first opened and seen much better VFM racing, more often than not, in the past.

Philip Rising said of an earlier important meeting at KL " Buster worked for hours on end (under a blazing sun) to completely relay the track. No one could fault his work ethic but there was a feeling that the material then (and maybe now) being used on the track was not really conducive to lots of passing."

That is the case now - no one doubts his work ethic - if anything it's OTT. But what we can question is what appears to be the same attitude years ago that he is always "right" especially when fired up! That is a negative aspect of him that is now destroying the love of substantial numbers of fans for the club. He will not listen and appears unwilling to even consider the views of others. They are the qualities of a dictator not a calming leader ( Chairman of the BSPA ) seeking to revive the sport from it's current doldrums. The BSPA after a number of years of treading water, gave Buster his head in the matter of the development of the sport. We do not seem to be making much progress.

I've been and am critical of the goings on at the club but I think some of that's a bit harsh and unfair on Buster - we do have to be careful what we wish for or we could end up with a Mick Horton type promoter- Buster has given the club stability for 25 years or so and that shouldn't be forgotten.

I think the track and Buster are getting some undeserved flack.I know it wouldn't happen, but if all riders had the same equipment and they rode the same track i bet you would get a lot better racing.

Not sure I could agree with that, taking the SWC as an example.

Holder, Batchelor, Lambert & Cook were fast, whoever missed the gate the track offered nothing to allow them to catch & pass the leading rider.

The AFA is now a one line, very slick, follow the leader, gaters track.

Riders equipment doesn't even come into it.

In terms of league matches where the riders equipment is similar, how many brilliant heat 13s and 15s have we seen?

KL had arguably the best Racing surface in the country, a few years ago, so what's changed? Just the person doing the track, enough said.
