waco 1,026 Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) Having only 3 rides on a regular basis is going to knock the confidence of some of these 2 pointers,,,and some will become dissilusioned ,,to say nothing of their lack of earning power,,Personally i think having a 5 pointer and a 2 pointer at reserve is a bad idea to start with.... Will certainly be interesting to see which approach works best? Teams like Belle Vue, Rye House & Wolves will probably see their reserves stay reserves all season whereas Somerset, Leicester & Poole look to always have a strong number 6 whoever moves up/down. Whilst i completely agree that the most learning will be done in the pits all riders at whatever level want to be out on track and i think the hardest hit to confidence will be being told they are being dropped from a ride rather than being out on track trying to score points. Whilst it would never work (because the rule would easily be abused) if both reserves had to take 4 rides the team mates would have to look at helping them the best they can rather than looking for the ideal heat to replace them in. Reserves shouldn't be able to be swapped either otherwise the poor number seven would get the three hardest rides after heat two. He's still a terrible signing as he won't beat any of the other teams top 6 either. However as the reserves are no longer protected most will only get 3 rides a meeting and be swapped out of heat 8 in favour of their stronger reserve partner. The sport as its nature is sink or swim so there may be some who suffer a confidence drop but if 2 or 3 make it then i would call it a success.They are protected, they have to ride at number 7 meaning they will ride against the opposing number 7 3 times and the opposing number 6 3 times.
