Playoff Final

When Leicester lost at Peterborough on 7 September, their Premiership season was over.   No more Premiership meetings.

When Leicester Cubs won at Belle Vue on 8 September and defeated Workington at home on 9 September it meant Belle Vue could no longer make the NDL play-off, so the final would be Leicester v Oxford.

From that point (9 September) Leicester had to run a play-off final....    1 meeting....   52 days to do it in...  over 7 weeks.....  nearly 2 months of a 7 month season left....

How the hell did they fail?

Don't forget Mildenhall won their KO Cup semi-final on 16th April....

Workington staged their home leg of the KO Cup semi-final against Leicester on 8th July....

The whole idea of the play offs is to build the season to a crescendo and far too often recently it builds to frustration and ultimately chaos without the firm scheduling of Tv contracts to work to.

It's time to abandon play offs unfortunately for anything other than the top league where Tv demands it

For me the play offs should be a separate competition, finish top of the league then your the league champions as it used to be but then you could have the  playoff championship to win a separate trophy. Top four teams again same rules as now but for the playoff trophy. Teams would still be looking to finish in the top four BUT there would be more incentive to fight harder to finish in number one position and win that League Champions Trophy and then do battle with the three other teams all wanting that title of Playoff Champions.

Seem to remember that happened in 2015 in the NL when Eastbourne weren't league champions, can't  remember who actually won the league, but they were crowned League champions, but Eastie won a thing called the Gold Cup which had a semi final and final played out by the top 4. Happened one season and was dumped. Although if it been the playoffs we'd have 'won' the league, it did seem the correct way running a league and having proper league champions who performed best across the whole season.

As there is zero incentive to win the league other than saying you've won the league and the only perceived benefit of winning the league for a rider is extra meetings, then you're probably on to something

Sadly, the more the BSPA try to give the leagues and cup competitions credibility, the less it actually does...

Any live updates from this one tonight? I'm curious to see if they get past a track inspection. Looking at the rainfall radar for the area I can't see this even starting.

Well hopefully everyone is happy the meeting has been run now, right? Only one rider carted off injured but at least we got a result, yes? Sickening.

Just read this on Max Perry's facebook page.

" Just to update. Max is in a bad way. He is talking. Broken wrist, broken fingers, suspected broken ribs, knee, ankle, leg. Off to John Radcliffe he is On Morphine and IV pain relief. "

Hope he can get well soon.
