YERS, very much so. Before speedway found a place on TV, the vast majority of people in this country thought it had long since died. Sky brought speedway back in front of many. Admittedly, the majority didn't also visit tracks to see the sport live but you can hardly blame Sky for that. The money Sky poured into British speedway was never well spent. It largely went to fund rider payments and never to improve the infrastructure of the sport. Cannot really blame Sky for that either. British speedway had a great opportunity to build on the exposure and platform provided by Sky but didn't do so. Personally cannot see how Sky can be blamed for the demise of domestic speedway. They don't create the product.24 points

All those making snide remarks abut Glasgow " Splashing the Cash " are hypocrites , not one of them would turn down that sort of investment in their clubs . The Glasgow owners should be admired and applauded for what they've done ., without them It's most likely there would be no speedway in Glasgow now . Good luck to them I say for giving it a go , I for one would be quite happy to see them make success of things and for Glasgow to win the title , ( if it's not going to be Berwick that is ) , the petty jealousy is boring and sad IMHO.10 points

There are many Rye House fans, myself included, who have lost our club and are devastated by this. Yet it seems to have turned into a crusade by Rob to make himself out to be the most hard done by. It’s sad. And for the record he isn’t. Those who were on the terraces EVERY week and who went away as often as they could in the name of supporting Rye House are (not counting myself as one of that number, as I wasn’t). I don’t care about crowds at Belle Vue, or how Coventry are doing at Leicester. They have their own threads. And above all else I don’t care about reading Rob McCaffrey name calling and being a big part of the reason this thread has descended because he can’t enter into a debate without making things personal as opposed to giving a reasoned answer to those who have a different opinion to him.10 points

Can you, or anyone provide the reference number in the SCB Regulations to the alleged "no gp rider rule" in the Championship, or is this another BSF myth that the ill-informed are getting hot under the collar on? Regarding Glasgow requiring permission from Edinburgh to sign Craig, I believe that when a loan agreement is already in place with another club, it is that Promotion (i.e. Belle Vue) that Tigers will be dealing with and Monarchs will not be involved. The Glasgow press release did state "The changes are subject to BSPA management committee approval." which other clubs have used in the past in such situations, so allegations of being presumptuous are unfounded. FWIW I believe the majority of Edinburgh fans have no problem with Cookie being able to supplement his earnings by joining Glasgow. After all we were able to loan Palovaara from Glasgow and John Campbell thanked Tigers for their cooperation in his column in a recent programme.7 points

Getting tired of the money bags and trying to buy the league comments, where was all the support when we were rock bottom for years. Riders are contacting Glasgow for a place not the other way round, it makes a change from struggling to get anyone to come to Glasgow, a lot of jealous people out there. Speedway is dying a death and something needs to be done to stem the total collapse . The Faccennas have put money into more than just Glasgow speedway as has Grant Henderson too. Cookie contacted Glasgow looking for more rides to help his season improve, we would be daft not to look into changes after Lewis Kerr season ending injury, it is unfortunate that Richie os the fall guy. Lets get behind our team and support them. That goes for other teams too, support your team or lose it. Gosh I have supported the Tigers home and away when possible , even when we were absolute rubbish and hitting 30 away from home was something to celebrate. Let us enjoy what we have now , while we still have it.6 points

There should be no need for the other clubs in the Championship to join forces to force any rule, if the rule exists then all clubs should abide by it.3 points

The system here is fine. These are the rules and always have been for a long time. Poole don’t have a big hitter like Doyle at Somerset or Morris at Swindon. We have a team of 6-7 pointers and one at reserve. Klindt likes Liecester but I wouldn’t expect that at any other track. It’s completely fair. If we had gone to Liecester two weeks ago Woryna would have been at reserve and Liecester would have won.3 points

speedway had been in decline for many years before Sky came in, but there was a massive opportunity to showcase the sport and sell it to a big sponsor, but i wonder if the desire was there once the ££££ signs were seen. I think too many in charge rested on their laurels and just took everything for granted, and that includes both supporters and income, which is always a bad way to do things. Having some financial backing should have been the start to clubs being able to speculate and actually try pushing the sport to a wider audience, promote in other words! it seems the money was used to help create the monster we have now, with seemingly no way to turn things around, Sky aren't going to do it all over again and give another go3 points

Do you mean Workington, I admire most of what Glasgow have achieved and make many trips up to Glasgow, great set up and good fans, sad to see they are starting to struggle to attract as many fans as needed. Glasgow and Belle vue is what most clubs should be striving for but unfortunately the money is not around to facilitate many clubs.....what"s the answer , who knows.3 points

Seem to remember it was a three hour show virtually EVERY week during the season when Sky first showed British Speedway.... And then they had a further two full repeats, as a minimum, at the two other time lots of morning and afternoon.... A minimum NINE hours in which to SHOWCASE your largely forgotten/unheard of Sport.. NINE hours per week of coverage going out on one of, (if not THE) fastest growing global media platforms at the time and also since... You then had the GP's with similar coverage featuring riders who virtually to a man appeared in the British League.. This meant circa 18 hours of coverage most weeks! For a Sport with very, very little TV coverage in the preceding 10 years or so... PLUS wasn't it over £1M to be shared amongst a fluctuating 11 to 8 teams each Season? Yep... British Speedway's problems are all definitely down to Sky. In fact they should be ashamed of themselves.. Providing the Sport with just hours and hours of prime time coverage virtually every week, and giving it seven figure sums each season, just to have the 'honour' of showing it.. I mean, no wonder the Sport didn't prosper...!3 points

That is the case and the reason why we see so little of it nowadays. Modern bikes allow for full throttle on or throttle full off.3 points

Well the bad news is the big star names are not coming back to Britain anytime soon. My point was if the racing is better then ever then where is it ? . Where can we showcase the sport, the last 2 weeks on BT sport we have had meetings from Wolves and Leicester which have been 4 hours of absolute dross. One from a track that is purpose built , one that has been there 90 years. All in the height of summer with great weather. The top league on BT is the showcase of our sport in Britain to the outside world, what must people think if they watched the last 2 weeks ,its not going to attract new fans or get old fans to return. Still in Pearson's world it was 2 great nights of speedway. People need to wake up and smell the coffee, the product is not good enough. In the top division Belle Vue is brilliant, Somerset occasionally , that's about it, all the rest poor. If that is the best the sport can show itself in the last 2 weeks then it is definitely on its way out.3 points

I think the actual land is owned by lea valley park. Getting planning permission to pull it down for residential use might be difficult. One of my mates has always said It might end up as a boating marina type of development.2 points

He won't be there taps, only real supporters follow their team home and away Even if he did turn up, he wouldn't be allowed in anyway, not with him having an opinion and all that.2 points

I dislike Poole as much as anybody else but crying foul because they have good reserves is a bit dumb. It’s your choice how you build a team. Lynn with Kerr proctor and toft having spells at reserve are no different. It’s what makes it interesting really. Poole have weaker riders in 13 and 15 on paper. As long as there hasn’t been average manipulation used to get certain riders to reserve then I don’t see the problem2 points

Well, you could do if it that would make you feel better. But the Red Blazers predate Sky's involvement by a couple of years or more. They have been with us longer than things like dirt deflectors. I remember the 1996 fours day at Peterborough when they were just everywhere you looked. It had the appearence of a bizarre Butlins reunion. With all the redcoats who never 'made it' in entertainment meeting up in old age wearing outfits from a bygone age.2 points

The under current of anti Glasgow sentiment from many Worky fans has been here for about two years. Just we dont see we have done anything to deserve it as there has been no particular flashpoints at meetings between the teams. This current thread is just another to add to the list.2 points

BPSA have rejected a plan to allow Rye to keep racing. I've no knowledge what the plan is but it seems madness not to help the club if possible. If debts can be lowered and riders continue to earn a living that can only be good. Maybe the Rye managers will say what the plan was and why it was rejected.2 points

I won't lie Friday's cancelled home meeting against Newcastle has got me baffled thanks to this stupid rule brought in by the bspa.glorious weather and two teams ready to race sitting on there bums at home Instead of been on track that night.it wouldn't be so bad if either team was riding somewhere else and make this ruling kinda understandable.2 points

Also don’t forget if it wasn’t for him British Speedway would have had nothing off Sky. 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing2 points

Thing is mate if people are stamping their feet demanding replacements it needs to be somebody and I haven't seen too many names suggested so far. With averages I was thinking that one or two CL riders averages may drop a little for August meaning there may be more options open compared to now.2 points

Back in the 70's, in my late teenage years, I used to go along to watch the Reading Racers at Tilehurst. When that closed I moved onto other interests, mostly moto cross and getting on with other things in life and a career that saw a move to Sussex. In 2004 I upgraded my TV and got a Sky subscription, and by chance scrolling through the channels, came across speedway. Remembering that it was a decent spectacle live, I recalled there being a team at Eastbourne so checked it out and have being going, through thick and thin, ever since. So, yeah, you could say Thank You Sky for getting me back to speedway. As everyone else has pointed out though, the failure to use their money wisely isn't their fault is it ?2 points

All the clubs could have got round the table and with give and take an agreement reached on the moving of fixtures to help the Rockets. Never an option though as Buster said no. I think one or two other clubs, unbelievably were not arsed about them closing.2 points

The rule about no GP riders in what is now the Championship was certainly written in black and white recently - in the 2018 regulations however it is nowhere to be seen! The move is still subject to approval and we will wait and see what they say.2 points

well said Ben the fact that our club has gone (and how it has happened) is far more important than all the rubbish being spouted on here. Would like to see some discussion as to how the situation can be reversed as all the hard work getting the club back etc seems to have just been thrown away - I don't care about money/politics etc all I know is somehow the real fans of the club seem to have been taken for granted and I guess we could all see problems coming with the way things were going but didn't ever think that everything would be thrown away in 2 years. My real disappointment is that I do not see any way back for the club and as for seeing any speedway there this season there is not a hope in hell2 points

It would just have been a"gentleman agreement" made at The AGM and depending who you are that doesn't count if you want to break it.IMO.It certainly has been mentioned before now.2 points

2010 / 2011 was the beginning of the end of speedway in this country. The F.I.M changes in silencer regulations changed speedway bikes forever in noise and performance and rendered many British tracks unsuitable in shape, size and material to produce good speedway racing. While the throaty raw of a speedway bike was lost, also the smell of Castrol R disappeared and the atmosphere on the terraces was never the same again. The sport in Britain has plummeted rapidly ever since.2 points

While I agree with your view, someone who uses terms like 'scum' and 'nasty idiots' to describe other posters doesn't deserve much sympathy when those others hit back.2 points

I used to know Mc Caffery many years ago. He always struck me as a person full of his own importance who always acted as if he was an expert on all matters Speedway when in fact the reverse was true. When I knew him he dreamed of being the promoter at Rye House ( which was an impossibility then) si it does not surprise me that he had his nose put out of joint when Len Silver took over 2000 and resurrected the club. He talks utter rubbish.2 points

If they want to be at speedway they will be. If they can’t not drink for a day (irrespective of the situation) then they require medical help, as their drinking will no doubt lead to anyway at some point.2 points

Thought I'd get a few emoji's in first You're just not grasping it are you...its not about the postponement with your lot, it was about all our Friday's fixtures going forward being removed from the Fixture list without an explanation . We aren't pushing for anything just to ride on the AGREED nights from the start of the season , nothing to do with meeting teams as we've hit a bit of form ... Got it ????1 point
