  1. Slick? :O Many riders needed to go to the toilet before the meeting started because they were sh***ing themselves! That track was incredibly grippy, hence the reason why a number of the Glasgow riders keep shooting past the bends. Most riders were having to go 2-3 teeth higher than they normally would have. Sam Jensen looks to be a great capture, he'll be knocking up big points very, very soon I have no doubt.

  3. Will check but last I heard was £1,375 - which is a superb effort by those on the terraces - and in the posh seats too of course (and on the grass banking!!)

  4. I will reverse the roles and give the 'Poole version' had Harris been a Pirate against 2 Witches...... Bomber found tremendous grip and speed to expertly cut through the Witches pair to lead as all 3 approached turn 3 only for Kurtz to delay his turned forcing him wider whilst THJ despite being behind tried to drop it on him. Something had to give an THJ went down with the Witch being rightly excluded

  5. This might be all wrong. It's an age thing...... Wasn't it Rick Miller that was the only rider to finish a race at Brandon only to find he'd been excluded for not trying. He spent most of the race performing wheelies for the crowd. That was a 0-0.

  6. Touch of the Big Time Charlies about us last night . While we moaned and whinged about the track , the Scunny riders got on with it. attacked the track with a purpose and were well worthy of the win . 53-37 didn't flatter them at all . We're coming to the time of year when tracks ate going to be difficult and weather affected , and if we show the attitude we showed last night we'll be winning nothing

  7. A confident win.... no Bandit crocked this week (best wishes to Matty W though on recovering from what was a nasty spill) and my hubby wins the 1st prize on the 5-1 draw on our anniversary weekend... oh, and our next away opponents lose heavily at home That wasn’t too bad a night I tell ya

  8. My NHS career puts me in good stead to do it but no, it’s an absolute pleasure to help out my club anyway I can... that and my £10 standing order every month is just a small token of what I wish I could do!

  9. Perhaps you need to take your rose tinted glasses off.... If the positions were reversed and an Ipswich rider had got up and let the race continue there would have been uproar. It's only seen as cheating when the other side does it. Long standing fans still laugh about the time when Kevin Jolly done exactly the same thing at King's Lynn back in the 70's, when the league was actually a meaningful competition. That did win us the match back then. What Kurtz did made no difference to the result, we gated on a 5-1 in the re-run but Holder easily got by King in the only genuine pass of the match. What was more depressing was that a good crowd had turned up, positive new signings in the Witches camp and a genuine must win scenario only to find that yet again they were given a total pile of crap to race on. Dust after 4 heats, no extra water put down, nothing round the outside, just the usual gate and go you get at Ipswich these days. The close scoreline made for a good atmosphere but how much better it would have been if there was some decent racing to go with it. At the end of the day the better side won.

  10. Thanks Steve. The rule was quoted at the time and yes, by-the-book, the ref was correct. But it's odd isn't it? Watching one rider, riding for a 3-0 is not very entertaining is it? But seeing the same rider doing one handed wheelies and waving to the crowd makes everyone smile. Ho hum.

  12. If you didn't see it, then that's perfect, your view on the situation should be correct and un biased. Your view would be even better if you had heard someone talking about it whilst out doing some shopping. Maybe you got it first hand from a riders friends girlfriends dog walker.

  13. I think it might have been (not sure) Magnus Zetterström who said something like, when asked about retirement, that if you start thinking about retiring then you have already retired mentally, that one starts loosing/shifting focus to the retirement.

  20. It wouldn't be if we had kept NBJ but hes injured now so would have needed replacing anyway but maybe if we had left it we could have got a better option. It was still a bad decision in my view. Wells didn't get sacked by Belle Vue because he was going well.

  23. I really don’t think Lambert is ready for a full season of GPS, perhaps another 2 years off. It’s been a good experience this year being series reserve, has given him more gps then probably thought, what with Greg not taking his place unfortunately. Kolodeiz, apart from a GP win, which was really good, he hasn’t done much. He must have something going for him to win a gp, and I accept you can’t win gp every meeting, but some sort of consistency would be nice. He seems to be another Lindback, so frustrating cause you know what he can do but just doesn’t manage it for whatever reason.

  24. reading the press releases from eastbourne the authorities should be more ashamed they have refused Eagles permission to use a bloody good reserve in Danyon Hume who wants to ride for them. No doubt if he was some johnny foreigner no one had heard of he'd be fine. more ashamed should be Georgie Wood who gets himself another ban for being totally unprofessional for the IOW and letting them and Eastbourne down.

  28. If it wasn't for their coverage of the GP's. I would ditch BT Sport, their League coverage has been very poor, and now they change this meeting for rudy German Football.

  32. My all time favourite rider is Dan Forsberg who rode for Birmingham in 1952 and again in 1957. Dan was very much under-rated and was in my opinion, every bit as good a rider as were Ove Fundin and Olle Nygren - he was a pure racer and didn't have the ruthlessness of most of the other Swedes which is probably why he was so much overshadowed by them. Dan had a brilliant first season with the Brummies but was repeatedly obstructed by the Swedish authorities who resented him riding in England and put all kinds of obstacles in his way, which caused him to miss so many Birmingham matches and resulted in Les Marshall not retaining his services for the following season. When he returned to Birmingham in 1957 he looked as good as ever, only being beaten once by the opposition in the home fixtures in which he rode that year. It was my pleasure to meet him for the first time when he came over to watch the Brummies re-opening meeting in 2007.

  33. I did at one time npt so long ago think Greg should have a wild card for next year, but considering his current circumstance, p;us his age etc I think best would be for him to do Torun this year as a swan sing and that would be it. To put him in as a full wild card next year would be too much for him and for the speedway fans in general. To put him in select GPs next year to wave good bye to all would be unfair to those riders in the nations Greg would get to be at not being able to have an opportunity to have a wild card spot. To me, that leaves him riding at the final meet this year ie Torun and it would be his prerogative to do Cardiff this year as well. Might upset Robert but its Gregs call anyway.

  34. As this meeting seems to have disappeared from the BT Sports schedules, you would think that the Wolves preview would be highlighting the importance of actually attending the fixture if fans want to see it?!

  38. Its all gone quiet on Starkey, maybe his injuries are taking longer than anticipated. Even if he returns this week he is unlikely to be race fit though his presence alone will be uplifting. A big weekend coming up, hopefully the 0131 can soften up the Bandits on Saturday night before we are on.

  42. Its all about set up - home riders are more prone to being thrown if the home track is totally alien to what they expect. Plus if the entry of the bends are a lot slicker then turning the bikes becomes an issue.

  43. Not sure anyone really attacked that track. Glasgow Speedway is much better than tonight served up. Results are secondary to entertainment for me. Understand we needed to get meeting on and lots of hard work went into it but when riders can't turn the bike it's not really good to watch. Scunthorpe thoroughly deserved to win.

  44. The plaudits of the previous posters say it all. Not many riders go through a whole career with barely a bad word said about them but everyone liked AJ. AJ - A massive talent, and thoroughly nice bloke. Leigh Lanham said his favourite times in the sport were riding No 2 at Lakeside with AJ at No1. Fantastic team rider . It was always amusing to see AJ coming off bend 2 and pointing to where he wanted Leigh to go, left or right, Leigh would go there and AJ would bring him home. One thing many people didn’t see was that he was meticulously organised and always treated his mechanics extremely well. All good things come to an end. Sorry to see AJ go but as has been said, he has taken a lot of knocks and I am glad to see him leave in one piece, and while he is still relatively near the top. He still rides at No1 in my dream team though.
