If he was ill yesterday and clearly at risk today, why travel? Its selfish and I suspect there is more going on than on the face of it.5 points

Well Done to Kaiser Erik, great performance. But lets also celebrate Tom Woolley, he matched GB & Glasgow (and defending champion) star Craig Cook's score - and from one less ride4 points

Many tracks no longer fit with modern engines. Look at what is served up at some tracks that were superb even less than 10 years ago. Whilst its not the only reason for the lack of entertainment, team owners need to adapt their product (track shape/width etc) to suit the modern era. Very few have or will bother to do so. Entertainment IMO is about passing not necessarily speed and the ridiculous gulf between abilities at the top and bottom of the riders averages wont achieve that. Nor will poorly prepared tracks. If last night the riders were on £250 for the meeting that is likely to be around a quarter of what most of the top enders will take home. I'm not surprised they don't take it seriously or put themselves out. There is no prestige in these events and wont be again unless the competitors are adequately rewarded for taking part. Speedway doesn't even give out medals to the league winners far less reward the riders and their teams for being better than the rest over a season. The whole ethos up is fundamentally flawed but we already know that. Unfortunately we also accept its not going to change.3 points

That's strange, cos there is a panthers fan called Daniel Green that's also a spurs fan, and it's one of the accounts you would guess it to be. What's the chances, tut.3 points

I liked the tractor guy at Scunthorpe on Friday evening... we didn't see him until after heat 10... and then never saw him again. There were zero track rakers and the track was fine all night3 points

Is this thread still going? I’ll give a “fact”. Poole won easily again at Ipswich. Can we race you every week?2 points

To be fair (no pun) Slaters are there same time in September every year, irrespective that speedway is on. It rarely if at any time causes disruption, unless Ben Barker is riding who would rather be on the rides, a bit more exciting for him than speedway.2 points

In 3 rides the furthest he got was bend 2, definately bike trouble I would say2 points

http://www.sheffield-speedway.com/news.php?extend.2791 has some great action pictures of the 23 minutes of racing, but not a single picture of the 2 hours of track grading. The tractor man must be gutted.2 points

The only thing I remember from last year was the ridiculous not swap guests from 1st and 2nd leg.2 points

If a track has dirt on it then the tractors are needed to keep it race-able with todays modern bikes. The slicker the track to start with then the less work needed. At Redcar we use 2 tractors along with a water bowser and because this work gets done every approx 4 heats the track at the end is still in great condition. If you think Speedway is bad have you ever been to Ice Speedway ? After every 4 heats its about a 20 minute delay for grading and smoothing of the surface. Normally in about -10 degrees.2 points

It's a shame, that as quite a prolific Twitter user, his back injury didn't allow him to reach for his phone before the event to let his fans know he wouldn't be there. I expected better of Scott2 points

It's another nail in the speedway coffin .Its the same every week and just winds people up.Apparently yesterday's hold ups where down to mr Cook who allegedly went round the other riders trying to get the meeting stopped because of track conditions. The same mr Cook who had a bad day with his machinery and hardly ever breaks down in other meetings.Very odd.I feel sorry for all the Glasgow fans who turned up to support him and paid to watch him.2 points

If it wasn't for their coverage of the GP's. I would ditch BT Sport, their League coverage has been very poor, and now they change this meeting for rudy German Football.2 points

It’s his usual line, completely incapable of having a proper discussion unfortunately. Best ignored.2 points

So that's Charlie & Erik both individual champions.. can Redcar now win the league which would be a great season as long as the diamonds win the cup,,2 points

I'd just like to point out that the folks who were annoyed at zagar and iversen for qualifying for next year should get their coats2 points

Which is completely his own fault with the bare minimum cheap ass team he has provided us with this year.1 point

Craig Cook wins heat 5 taking Sam Masters from the back then withdraws from his next ride and, presumably, the meeting citing illness. What’s going on now especially that IRR is now in place!1 point

... and yet back in the "golden" days the tractors came out at the end of every race and did a couple of laps. Meetings dragged on for two hours - only 13 heats in those days too - but everything was sunshine and lollipops. Admittedly at most tracks the music being played today is the same as we listened to as the tractors tootled round in the 1970s1 point

I only meant from the point of view of that he could have been World Champion mate. TK was a Bee through and through1 point

A lot easier to have British riders when down south due to the fact that most riders are based south of manchester/yorkshire yet majority of teams in this league are northern. The riders don’t want to be driving 10 hour round trips to home meetings every week, hence why a lot of Danes go to the northern teams and use edinburgh and newcastle airport to fly in and out of.1 point

I remember getting through three air horn cannisters at the Wolves - Potters meeting at Monmore Green in 81. No one complained, in fact I was actively encouraged by the large Potters following that day. I recall that the racing was pretty dire, but controversial refereeing decisions and the closeness of the score kept everyone captivated. Mike Sampson (and I think Rob Lightfoot) came home for a 5 - 1 in heat 13 ahead of Neil Evitts to win the match for the Potters 40 - 38. Happy days.1 point

Thats what makes our sport so special memories and u get to meet your hero.1 point

It’s amazing how little research people do when claiming this, that and the other. Takes a few seconds to check riders previous scores in the updates site archives.1 point

I think track curation is a dying art. These old guys are retiring or popping their clogs, like a lot of fans.1 point

You wish!! No way is that happening. Do well to win by 8.1 point

I always hated the so-called "speedway" fans who were quite happy to admit that they were only interested in watching the top boys. EVERY rider is important...1 point

Funny, isn't it? Doesn't matter what name they used 'Boro (which is a strangely incorrect abbreviation) or Teesside, people had trouble with the spelling. That's why it's much easier these days with Reddcar...1 point

I never saw Clive ride but I was lucky enough to interview him for the Owlerton Legends book a few years ago. I wrote to Clive and he invited me to spend the day with him - he was living in a luxury caravan at the time on a farm near Norwich. I was a bit nervous as I had only heard stories about what a hard rider he was but I need not have worried. Clive was one of the nicest men you could wish to meet and could not have been more helpful. It was a fantastic day and we kept in touch for a while afterwards, including him finding me at Owlerton one Thursday night when he was visiting. R.I.P. Clive, a true Owlerton Legend and a gentleman.1 point

BZ dishes out a lot but he does stay on the bike when it goes against him. 10 years ago Pedersen was completely ruthless but he has cleaned up his act and is now no worse than anyone else. Did anyone get too upset with Lindgren last night bar Lambert. No and Lambert beat him and we enjoyed the race. Hard riding is great to watch.1 point

Well, when a person asks a simple question on here, the only responses required are ones that are attempting to answer the question. Comments debating the value of the question, or worse still, the identity and motives of the questioner, are not actually required. Steve1 point

This might be all wrong. It's an age thing...... Wasn't it Rick Miller that was the only rider to finish a race at Brandon only to find he'd been excluded for not trying. He spent most of the race performing wheelies for the crowd. That was a 0-0.1 point

Some posts on here really haven't aged very well at all have they, bemoaning the 'no hope' Zagar and Iversen for qualifying for next year. Who are those two in tonights final again?1 point

of them Pottinger would seem most suited. Local lad and well liked in the sport all indications are Cradley wont come to tapes next season and a few miles across the West Midlands once a week would seem to be more desirable to a Black County lad surely than a trek down to Sussex where they seem to have more team managers and management than anyone else. Will would do a great job I'm thinking. Gerrim in1 point

But surely Plymouth can't go on without Wallinger? They will have to close the club down.1 point

Very similar to TK from a Coventry viewpoint and potentially being a World Champion. Charismatic, Dependable and capable of beating anyone in the world day in day out. Happy Retirement AJ1 point
