If he was ill yesterday and clearly at risk today, why travel? Its selfish and I suspect there is more going on than on the face of it.5 points

Well Done to Kaiser Erik, great performance. But lets also celebrate Tom Woolley, he matched GB & Glasgow (and defending champion) star Craig Cook's score - and from one less ride4 points

Many tracks no longer fit with modern engines. Look at what is served up at some tracks that were superb even less than 10 years ago. Whilst its not the only reason for the lack of entertainment, team owners need to adapt their product (track shape/width etc) to suit the modern era. Very few have or will bother to do so. Entertainment IMO is about passing not necessarily speed and the ridiculous gulf between abilities at the top and bottom of the riders averages wont achieve that. Nor will poorly prepared tracks. If last night the riders were on £250 for the meeting that is likely to be around a quarter of what most of the top enders will take home. I'm not surprised they don't take it seriously or put themselves out. There is no prestige in these events and wont be again unless the competitors are adequately rewarded for taking part. Speedway doesn't even give out medals to the league winners far less reward the riders and their teams for being better than the rest over a season. The whole ethos up is fundamentally flawed but we already know that. Unfortunately we also accept its not going to change.3 points

That's strange, cos there is a panthers fan called Daniel Green that's also a spurs fan, and it's one of the accounts you would guess it to be. What's the chances, tut.3 points

I liked the tractor guy at Scunthorpe on Friday evening... we didn't see him until after heat 10... and then never saw him again. There were zero track rakers and the track was fine all night3 points

Is this thread still going? I’ll give a “fact”. Poole won easily again at Ipswich. Can we race you every week?2 points

To be fair (no pun) Slaters are there same time in September every year, irrespective that speedway is on. It rarely if at any time causes disruption, unless Ben Barker is riding who would rather be on the rides, a bit more exciting for him than speedway.2 points

In 3 rides the furthest he got was bend 2, definately bike trouble I would say2 points

http://www.sheffield-speedway.com/news.php?extend.2791 has some great action pictures of the 23 minutes of racing, but not a single picture of the 2 hours of track grading. The tractor man must be gutted.2 points

The only thing I remember from last year was the ridiculous not swap guests from 1st and 2nd leg.2 points

If a track has dirt on it then the tractors are needed to keep it race-able with todays modern bikes. The slicker the track to start with then the less work needed. At Redcar we use 2 tractors along with a water bowser and because this work gets done every approx 4 heats the track at the end is still in great condition. If you think Speedway is bad have you ever been to Ice Speedway ? After every 4 heats its about a 20 minute delay for grading and smoothing of the surface. Normally in about -10 degrees.2 points

It's a shame, that as quite a prolific Twitter user, his back injury didn't allow him to reach for his phone before the event to let his fans know he wouldn't be there. I expected better of Scott2 points

It's another nail in the speedway coffin .Its the same every week and just winds people up.Apparently yesterday's hold ups where down to mr Cook who allegedly went round the other riders trying to get the meeting stopped because of track conditions. The same mr Cook who had a bad day with his machinery and hardly ever breaks down in other meetings.Very odd.I feel sorry for all the Glasgow fans who turned up to support him and paid to watch him.2 points

If it wasn't for their coverage of the GP's. I would ditch BT Sport, their League coverage has been very poor, and now they change this meeting for rudy German Football.2 points

It’s his usual line, completely incapable of having a proper discussion unfortunately. Best ignored.2 points

So that's Charlie & Erik both individual champions.. can Redcar now win the league which would be a great season as long as the diamonds win the cup,,2 points

Recently, there's been a lot of criticism and general bad karma surrounding Craig Cook - coming from many different directions. I know he has never been the most popular of riders but some of the recent vitriol has got me thinking. Who was the most unpopular/hated rider and more importantly why? I know in the past there have been many 'pantomime villains' who play to the crowd as much as anything; certainly at Crayford the mere mention of the name Kelvin Mullarkey would lead to a chorus of boos; but riders like these were those we 'loved to hate' rather than have a genuine dislike about Who do you think was an unpopular rider and why?1 point

Sheffield seems to have had more than its fair share of track maintenance problems this season, but can any team claim to have a more annoying tractor guy than Sheffield? I've just been to watch the Championship Riders Final (or whatever they call it now) and clearly the tractor guy has formed the opinion that we all paid our money at the turnstile in order to watch him do his stuff. The regulation grading after every four heats seems to have been cut down to every two, and the process has become a work of art in itself. He does four laps in an anti-clockwise direction followed by four clockwise and then a little encore with the water bowser. He even managed to hold up the start of heat 14 by abandoning his great big grading-scraping-thingy in the middle of the back straight, which had to be dragged away by four burly track staff. Had the referee not spotted it and halted proceedings it would have been like one of those stop-sticks the police use to deflate the tyres of toe-rag car thieves! Without a doubt the tractor guy added an hour to my grand-daughter's bedtime (she wasn't pleased either because the event finished so late that Norwood Chippy was closed and she had to forego her chip supper). Of the 3 hour duration of the event, 23 minutes was actual racing and 2 hours 37 minutes was tractor demonstrations. We are not amused.1 point

Scott's home average is 4.74 so I think Palm Toft will be capable of scoring at least that many but the absence of Wright will be difficult to cover with r/r. We need the points to have a chance of the play offs and must look to getting all 4.1 point

Craig Cook wasn't ill or have bike problems(he didn't ride them far enough to get any) His problem was his arrogance and attitude. He needed to make 3 starts to get his money and that is all he did. He is just an obnoxious twit.1 point

Isn't a fact something that's proven to be true? It's of the opinion of those that were there that he stayed down, it's still not a fact. Come on Gavan, you can do better.1 point

Kent vs Cradley in 2014 finished with a 0-0 in heat 2. Im sure it was something daft like a rider not under power when a rider fell then the two Cradley riders left the track thinking the race would be awarded? Someone with a better memory will correct me but was certainly a strange atmosphere as it all happened.1 point

I think that is a bit tongue in cheek saying a NL rider would be an improvement. Yes he was awful riding for Peterborough the other week in tough conditions. But riding for Lynn he has never been that bad around there. I think his lowest score has been 3 for Lynn which isn't that bad around your place. Most of the time would have been in the 1-5 too. Do remember him scoring an 8 or 9 a few years ago beating Thorssell twice so we know he can do it, it's just whether he can be bothered it seems.1 point

Bore off you old misery - you've been pulled up as a liar many times recently on here.. any chance of you contributing anything remotely relevant ? this old pillock is as bad as gustix - anyone but his old track is fair game.1 point

That's him - unhinged to say the least and probably needs some help really. Pretty distinctive tho for anyone wanting to say hello at Blunsdon.1 point

Hi Sings, I know you're very knowledgeable, and always speak sense, but I'm wondering when did Dan Gilkes "tread water for a long time on a 500"? He was only just over 15 (and therefore only just on a 500) when he appeared for Reading in 2017 in his first SDL match and scored 6 (I think), and the following season he was so good in both the SDL and the MDL that the NL promoters were queueing up for him part way through the season. To be honest he could have gone NL at the start of 2018, he was quick enough.1 point

The plaudits of the previous posters say it all. Not many riders go through a whole career with barely a bad word said about them but everyone liked AJ. AJ - A massive talent, and thoroughly nice bloke. Leigh Lanham said his favourite times in the sport were riding No 2 at Lakeside with AJ at No1. Fantastic team rider . It was always amusing to see AJ coming off bend 2 and pointing to where he wanted Leigh to go, left or right, Leigh would go there and AJ would bring him home. One thing many people didn’t see was that he was meticulously organised and always treated his mechanics extremely well. All good things come to an end. Sorry to see AJ go but as has been said, he has taken a lot of knocks and I am glad to see him leave in one piece, and while he is still relatively near the top. He still rides at No1 in my dream team though.1 point

The result or the racing?? The glasgow boys didnt attack the track like scunny did same track for both teams! Thanks to gazc for the ride back to station hope to get back up again this season.1 point

Scooters I can understand. If Bomber is there, he would steal it, and see if it goes any quicker than his bikes! Of course, it might take him a time to get the setup right... I'll get me coat...1 point

Are you going to the British GP in Cardiff? If so prepare to be deafened. Air horns are great and help to create atmosphere but some tracks don't allow them. You sound nice and conscientious so as long as you are pointing it upwards and not in someone's ear I would go ahead. If you gradually find you're standing on your own you will know other fans don't appreciate the noise.1 point

Looking at the Plymouth website you would think that they have closed down! The latest league table is from May and the latest news item is from the start of August. The news about the two new team members is on the BSPA website but no mention on the Plymouth website. Maybe changing the name of the team to something about an Essex Banger Team from Devils which everyone in Speedway had got to know proved too much for the webmaster.1 point
