  2. I still remain convinced there is no justification for an aging Hancock, he will not add anything to the SGP. However, I guess that was why Monster ensure he was in Cardiff to go on TV to say he wants a place.

  3. What a genuine guy Madsen is. One of the first out to congratulate Zmarzlik. Proper sportsman who gets unfair flack.

  4. Pish! It's EASY to win a GP series! One-off World Finals were far better, and really showed the better riders! The calibre of rider at this level today is crap! These riders wouldn't even have been good enough to get in a BL team in the 60's and 70's! (At least, that's what I read on the BSF...)

  6. Hmmmm... How long have you got? Of course, I wasn't able to personally witness things, but I know a number of forum members have... Steve

  7. What's the story with Lasse Bjerre - is he likely to be riding in the final? Choice of guests will be very important for both teams - I make Redcar the favourites, however it is a lot closer between the teams than many may think - Diamonds have got quite a few who can have good meetings at Redcar - and Ulrich might just come back tobite us big time. However the most important aspect is the fact that we finally have a major final between these two sides - lets make it a great event and show the rest of the Championship the passion we have in the North east, this is great for both promotions - and whilst we all know both clubs have some "supporters" who will view this as an opportunity to "have a go" at the opposition and their fans, I sincerely hope the true speedway supporters in each club will get behind their team, but show respect to the opponents and applaud good riding by all riders, whatever colours they are wearing

  8. You are right actually, the entertainment part hadn't crossed my mind. Without Heeps we would have hardly seen anything entertaining at all at Foxhall. A good reason for me to say, excellent point Arch, and an excellent reason for keeping him for next season. You have changed my mind.

  10. This thread shouldn't be happening until after the play offs, not right! Just support your play off final team, there's the whole close season for saying who you'd keep and wouldn't keep!!!!

  11. Couldn't be called Middlesborough, as there is no such place as Middlesborough. There is a Middlesbrough though. Hope that explains why Lester fans asked the question.

  12. Dan put him on ignore and don’t reply to him then we won’t have to read his drivel

  13. Klindt could well move to Foxhall.........bit like football where a player shows form for a smaller club before moving on to a bigger club

  14. Yeah, offering a 4 time World Champion who rightfully qualified before his wife's illness sure does 'make a mockery'. He deserves a place until it's proven he isn't up to it anymore.

  15. Why Hancock? I am just amazed everyone saying he is a banker... judging by the Monster PR stunt of bringing him to Cardiff, he may well be offered a place but if that happens it makes a mockery of the sport. It would be a 'mates gift sentimental wildcard', not based on sporting justification. He's 50, he's missed a season and as of a couple of weeks ago he could not even say if he would be able to ride. If he is offered a wildcard, he needs to be given a deadline to commit to be fair to any replacement.

  16. Well done Bartosz. I hope Emil learns how to race in the semi finals (had first pick 6 times and never won a semi final all season). Had the most points in the qualifying heats all season (Emil 108, Bartosz 103 and Leon 96).

  17. Tatum's slurring and spluttering has picked up with Pearson's shouting, if it goes down to the final I might have to switch off the volume.

  18. Why? If you love entertaining speedway then Bartosz is the man. Nice guy too.

  19. Madsen blew it this year when the nerves got him in Denmark. If he had had even a decent gp in Voyens he would have probably have been World Champion this year. A much more accomplished looking rider than helium boy.

  20. I thought the discussion might be more on whether I'd actually placed Jack Parker high enough The winner of the sport's premier event in both 1934 and 1947 (including toppling the "unbeatable" Duggan in the '47 final). One of the top riders for a long, long time. Made the Match-Race Championship his own personal property for a number of years.

  21. He did beat Malcolm Simmons though!

  22. Mickthemuppet did compare Williams and Craven. He said Freddie beat PC far more often. That was when I noted PC was 8 years younger and a rising star at the time. For me wrong to do that , and even more so if mick had mainly for instance seen their clashes at Wembley rather that Belle Vue. All distorts the impression

  23. I'm guessing this must be the first time ever that a thread on the Speedway Forum has moved into other interesting discussions not directly related to the original op.

  25. Same as me. I don't think there were any in 1958 and 1959. There was also the People's Guide 1947 to 49; Lennon's Annual 1946-7 and Astoria's 1953 to 1958.

  26. Times aren't that important if the racing was ok considering the conditions.. but as it was a nothing meeting all the riders came away injury free which is a bonus

  28. TRACK watering has been a bone of contention this year, especially in a bitterly cold stadium. Earlier this season, in Wroclaw, the local guys stepped in and took over track preparation.

  29. Memories from being a kid at Coventry I would say Nigel Boocock and in more recent times it would have to be Billy Janirro -- not for his success as a number 1 (which he never was) but just loved the way he took no nonsense (with the assistance of his elbows). Master bonus point rider

  32. Very poor advert for a play off speedway meeting …. One of the Thompson boys looks good to me, but I don't want to say which one. Pleased that Clegg beat Mr Ego Ellis in heat 15. Danyon still can't stay on for 4 laps in all his rides...….disappointing because he has bags of potential. Jack Smith seems to have stalled re: progress? Certainly don't miss NL racing!

  34. That was not, a typical Redcar meeting. The track was very heavy, (due to the weather) and consequently the outside line was not effective. The racing wasn't great to be honest, but it was about getting it on. I think it affected some of the Redcar riders, (when they missed the gate), but credit to Douglas and Mountain, who were excellent for Leicester. The tie is still alive (just), Leicester had a couple of lucky breaks, last night, maybe Redcar might get some in the away leg.

  35. Thought the idea was giving a rider a 'brand' name and selling point? Do agree though, its pretty pointless. Should be 1-15 on how they stand going into the round IMO and 16 for wildcard.

  36. I gathered that and as it was a nothing meeting and had to be ridden to get the fixture in.It just shows a disregard to the paying customer again.

  43. Would have Heeps Lawson and Allen of Ipswich in, and Jensen above Ellis. Not surprised Holder has dropped out, poor form last month. Muesli has gone down. I will go Doyle, Batch, Thorsell, Masters, Lambo, Iversen, Fricke, Bjerre, Kurtz, Klindt, Cookie, Jensen, Ellis, Grajczonek, King, Lawson, Allen, Heeps, Morris, Riss.

  44. Very poor attendance for a play off game . crowd swelled by 100+ Brummies . Racing was non existent a very poor spectacle. Even at a tenner offer very poor value for money . As i always say the gulf in riders ability in this league is utterly ridiculous .

  45. Cost of reasonable industrial strength tarpaulin with eyelets and fastening clips in suffient volume (say 80000m2) to fully cover a track would be circa £17500. Putting aside the length of time it would take for a team (of volunteers?) to erect and then take down and where such a large and weighty mass would be stored, it is questionable if such cost is justifiable v value of saving meetings from being rained off particularly since the cover would need to be fully removed a good number of hours before the meeting to allow for track preperation which would leave it open to the elements anyway.

  46. Morning all, I’m happy to report that the track is absolutely fine after last night. We had no rain on Wednesday which left the track dry yesterday. The track was packed hard yesterday afternoon so it would take the rain forecast overnight. We have some rain forecast this afternoon, but this evening should be dry and we don’t anticipate any problems with our meeting going ahead. Racing conditions should be excellent and will make for a superb Semi-Final. We have opened up the back straight for additional viewing facilities and we have a 2nd paramedic booked, so the meeting should run smoothly. Hope to see plenty of you there this evening! 47. Sportowe Fakty regularly run a fan poll to choose which Swedish Elitserien match should be shown on their website. Dackarna are usually the choice, where available. Dackarna track Maciej Janowski, Patryk Dudek, Piotr Pawlicki and Kacper Gomolski plus three Swedes. I think that supports Mike's view on what attracts Polish neutral viewers.......

  48. The issue for finding a new "Brandon" is that you have to find a location suitable to have 40 add coaches running through a village when the stox are on, and finished. The current location is perfect. I went not long back and it's a mess but on what scale is expected to be refurbished too? The stands are good, the tracks still there and a few mobile bars and it's a start. It would need sizeable investment for lighting and the repair work for fencing then there is the electrics that have been ripped out of everywhere you can imagine. The land has opportunity for other local and community projects and trying to find land to build a new track on is a needle in a haystack. It will be intresting to see the response if any though from Brandon Estates. Where does this leave them? How far will they go before thinking lets just sell it and move onto another plot of land elsewhere. My saying all along is that they purchased a viable Motorsport stadium, not a housing estate to be. There must be easier and less challenging avenues for them to look at, save coventry speedway team have given them a fight they never expected and Jeff, David and co won't give up now ...Can't wait to get back and help tidy the old place up....
