  1. Yes they are. Busy practicing right now at 4pm. 'Now thats what I call music', well to my ears at least! Moved back to Poole on Thursday and live close to the stadium.

  2. Could Sheffield sign Cook for Thursday away meetings?

  3. I suppose a lot of how we remember the riders is coloured by our early recollections of them. As you know, my first two speedway years were at New Cross. Fundin was a master of the Frying Pan and was virtually unbeatable (except for that one unforgettable night when Split Waterman beat him three times!). Ronnie Moore was also a top man at New Cross. Whereas for some reason, Peter Craven and Briggo (even though he rode for New Cross in 1960) never seemed comfortable on the track and were definitely behind Fundin and Moore. I didn't see Bjorn Knutson much, but after New Cross closed I moved across to West Ham, where Bjorn was the no.1. He was class personified and almost unbeatable at Custom House. So, in my memory from early days, I always put Fundin, Moore and Knutson ahead of Craven and Briggo. One other class rider I should mention is Jack Young. He was, of course, well past his best in the early 1960s but at the end of the 1961 season, he took part in two individual championships at New Cross - the King of the South Cup and the Tom Farndon Memorial Trophy. He won them both, beating every one of The Big Five in the process. I felt very privileged to see Youngie as he must have been at his peak in the early 1950s. For just those two meetings, he turned the Big Five into the Big Six - and he was the best!

  4. Iversen wont be the answer ... too many injuries over the last five years and is on the way down rapidly now , sadly.

  5. Never mind about looking at riders to blame the first port of call should be the man who put that 7 together. At what point, . Did whoever it was look at that team on paper and think it was anything but a wooden spoon line-up ?

  6. I use the ferry to catch a train back to Wimbledon so I hope that things change soon. The club are always so welcoming that I would hate to miss out due to the catamaran being cancelled.

  7. Shocking decision by Lynn, if there is someone already waiting in the wings then, that is disgusting, did they tell him before the meeting that he is no longer required? Who would want to ride for a club that sacks someone after 2 matches and no racing for 18 months. Kings Lynn have really went down in my estimation. Hope he gets another team and scores a maximum against the stars. I have followed Glasgow for a long time, home and away, even when we were getting beat, only in last couple of years have we been near the top of the table and a lot of that is due to Craig, both on and off the track, treat him right and he will give 110%

  8. I think something probably happened or came to light last night, its disappointing that a British rider who could potentially have been the top man in this league has gone so soon. My concern is that a replacement who is any good is going to miss meetings. It’s been a shambolic start to the season with the team building badly exposed, I hope they can sort it quickly for the sake of getting people back through the door.

  9. Well I thoroughly enjoyed watching the stream, obviously helped by the fact by the Bears getting a draw. For the Bears - Allen and MPT excellent. Rowe, Sarjeant and Jenkins rode well and picked up good points. Charles Wright and particularly Jordan looked off the pace but plenty of time to come good. If you’d told me before the meeting that Wright and Stewart would score a combined 8 points I’d have said the Bears would be on the end of a drubbing. For the Monarchs - Masters as good as expected, Pickering excellent too. The Bears fans least favourite Worrall started the meeting superbly but faded towards the end. Plenty of promise from Thomsen too. Some cracking races - quite a few passes including a lovely outside swoop by Allen on Masters. Hats off to the Monarchs for the stream - picture quality was great, commentary was obviously favoured towards the home team (as you would expect) but very fair and overall excellent value. Nearly 200 watching so I hope it made it worthwhile. Good nights entertainment.

  10. Add to this that some dictate when you can run your business irrespective of the fact that the race night will not necessarily attract the biggest possible crowd. Who would want to run a business/franchise where a dictatorship who have not invested in your business singularly decide what works best for you notwithstanding that their decisions may not serve the interest of the wider community at the track location and ignore those locally who are in the know and understand when they can attract the best possible numbers through the turnstiles and make a go of it. No wonder the sport is in the state it finds itself. Those in charge will bring speedway to its knees. Regular weekly speedway is now history and the current format does no work. When will these people in charge wake up to the fact?

  11. With Swindon & Poole not competing King's Lynn are trying their hardest to still finish below them

  12. Trouble is Buster has to find 2 teams. I think Lynn are suffering as a result of that unfortunately.

  13. Fundin had just a few more races against Craven (1954-1963) than he did against Briggs (1954-1970) on British tracks, but he met both over 200 times in all. Fundin finished ahead of Craven in 55% of their races and he finished ahead of Briggs in 62% of their clashes.

  18. Really? This league is essentially the same standard as the Championship bar a few riders and he should in paper be one of the top men. His head obviously isn’t right at the moment for whatever reason, will be interesting to see how he fares for Glasgow now and if he pops up somewhere else in the Premiership.

  19. Steve, Maybe we all COVID tired. I managed last summer very well as I got busy in the garden, but winter was long even though I have other interests to keep me occupied.

  20. Gutted. Was a regular supporter from the time I was attracted back to speedway just missing a few weeks from the very start. Barr the odd meeting due to holidays, never missed any despite being the only one left out of a crowd of original regulars but making new friends there instead. Will miss DaveT, Statman, Bish, Najjer and my new friends Brian and Liz as well as loads of others I chatted to but never got to know their names. RIP Somerset Speedway.

  22. WTF! Now I know Cook has erm... a bit of an unsettled track record recently to put it diplomatically but are KL stark raving mad? To ditch a rider after 2 meetings after not riding for nigh on 18 months is disgraceful behaviour. According to their statement there has been no fall out it's based on form/scores. Cook previously has a rather decent track record of loyalty to clubs Belle Vue, Edinburgh & Glasgow so it looks like if he's handled correctly then he can be a real asset to a club. Is it any wonder that very few people take up Speedway as a career in this country when riders are treated like this? Is there any other sport where the team members are chopped and changed as much as they are in Speedway?

  23. There are still a few promotions that try to run every week, my "new" club, Kent is one of them. It has to be good for business to be on every week on the same day and time. Go back a few years and ALL clubs ran like that. I don't understand why it all changed.

  24. "Hi Bartosz, what kind of guarantee would you be looking for to ride for us? Bartosz tells them... "Really? Well I think that sounds like something we could definitely do, or at least get very close to, and I am sure we could find a sponsor to make up the difference if needed".. Bartosz confirms his terms... "Errrrrr..... Oh, sorry Bartosz, I thought you meant that was for a night, not a race!".. "You haven't got Jamrogs number have you?"... Phone goes dead....

  26. If it is the case. And i say if, because until we hear from either Cookie or someone in the know, we can't be sure. But Cookie has been honest before regarding his health. We will have to see if it's the same with Glasgow i guess. Craig is a quality rider, and if it is the case i wish him a speedy recovery.

  28. Just to add some balance to your comments in red. Eastbourne wanted to report Poole for tyre issues. They were going ahead with it until they found out some of their riders had done exactly the same!

  29. Hi WK hope you are well one of my biggest regrets is not getting to see Peter or Bjorn ride.My interest started in 68/69 both superb riders and in my humble opinion Peter is still England’s greatest ever rider.

  30. Presume they must have someone lined up or otherwise you wouldn't get rid so quickly... If it is Doyle (and I can't think of anyone else), then will there need to be two changes.? Doyle did initially say that Sweden didn't offer enough meetings when compared to the UK so he signed for Swindon... Edit. NKI could also drop Sweden and ride here, but I wouldn't think he would improve KL that much from where they are now given his form over the past few years..

  31. So Lynn signed Cook for 1 meeting? What an awful way to treat a rider.

  32. Us that don't attend anymore have paid in thousands over the years & we have good reason to moan. It's quite clear thing's haven't changed to convince us otherwise. Pi$$ poor promoting Pi$$ poor manager Pi$$ poor team Pi$$ poor race track All at pi$$ poor prices If you're still happy with that, crack on, but some of us feel we deserve so much better & we have a right to voice that opinion, like I said, after spending £1000's over the years. Maybe those that are so blind might start to see the light with regular beatings at home. Going back in to my memory bank, the complete set up currently reminds me so much of Wagstaff's last season, catastrophe. Edit:- For the record, even though I'm never there anymore, I can assure you seeing these kind of results still hurt. It's my home town, fans over the last 3-4 seasons have deserved so so much better than they're getting.

  33. I pay my money i think i can criticise the riders who feel aren't pulling their weight.I'm not being negative just for the sake of it like many do.Let's remember many of the negative comments come from people that don't actually attend.

  34. If they couldn't make it pay why not let someone else have a go? I can only think they have already agreed to sell the land.

  35. You would hope that the closure of yet another track would make those running the sport take notice and ponder "does anyone amongst us actually really think we are doing things right"? Unfortunately it is hard not to think that the first thought of some when hearing the news was "quick get on the blower and see if we can sign 'so and so'" for next season".... I think that is now seven tracks gone in the past four or five years... In no particular order.... Coventry, Buxton, Rye House, Lakeside, Somerset, Workington, and Stoke... With only a rarely built new stadium saving Belle Vue from joining the list this year and Swindon still waiting for 'summer' to start so the builders can build their new facility... WOW!...

  36. I think Ove had a lot of respect for Peter, more so then any others of the top 5. Whilst Peter was at BV I was a fan of him. I only saw OF and PC race together at BV or Wembley world final. Peter was always a clean rider, a gentleman in general, and when they rode together I never saw Ove try anything dirty toward Peter. Their match races at BV were always exciting and close, so very close at times, but total trust in each over, that was clear. Such a shame the sport lost Peter whilst still youngish, a good few years at the top still in him. He was always a great sport, very approachable with fans, and ready to have a chat with them. Of the two, Ove was the most consistent, you can see that just in his record in the world championship, that’s why he was called Mr Perpetual Motion. Peter still ranks with me highly in the all time greats though.

  37. Why don’t you step up to the plate for a few days. You could start by posting the revised Div 2 fixture list along with the revised TV matches chosen for live coverage by Motowizja.(on the right thread of course).

  41. No team should be losing by that many points at home unless they had riders injured and the early part of the meeting and simply ran out of riders. But the Prem is a complete farce this season with only six teams, and retaining the play offs make it even more of a farce.

  44. Would be interesting to hear his take on things. It wasn’t that long ago he was on the radio saying about assembling a team for next year as Somerset would be back and would be looking to hold the pairs this year. Maybe he’s been strung along like everybody else when it was pretty clear what was happening? I expect to see him back at Poole fairly soon. Good luck to him as he’s one of the most astute team managers about.

  46. The late Danny Ayres was the master of celebration and that was one of the many reasons he was so popular. many riders said they wanted to honour his memory this year and for me the best way is to celebrate like Danny !!!
