  1. And that is indeed your perogative. Speedway Updates was designed to make the sport accessible to all, as an example, I can no longer travel to away meetings due to disabilites and without the various updates (and not just ours), I would probably have walked (well wheeled) away from the sport years ago. Some people can't afford to attend, some people can't go as they have to work or have family commitments....we have to keep interest in the sport, not push it away.

  2. Live steams are important and it is good they are being put on. However, just like in person admission prices, not everyone can afford it. Would we rather people go without entirely and lose more fans or indeed attracting new ones to give it a try or keep chipping away, keeping/sparking an interest and preventing people from walking away from the sport for ever.

  4. Given that the update service has been a huge assistance to many across the country for many years and all done entirely by volunteers i think that any attack on it and the great people who have helped is morally wrong. I also don't believe that the two are in competition. Someone will stream or watch the updates or neither. If someone has chosen to not pay the streaming fee i hugely doubt the reason is because someone trackside is sending through a 1-2 line update of the race details.

  5. Rory Schlein's family use the Updates site regularly to check on his scores from Australia, I'm sure Zane and Ben's will too. There's also Stefan's dad in Denmark. Steve's mum is also a regular visitor on the site. It's a valuable asset for not just supporters, riders families too.

  6. I Don't. The updates site has been in place for a good while & it helps those that cannot attend to keep up with what is going on in the speedway world without charge. The live stream is also very important as a social media outlet but it's reliability has been questioned several times & some people with limited funds would think twice before paying for this service.

  8. Traveling up from Exeter for this meeting more for a weekend away & a first visit to Ashfield as I’m not expecting anything other than a comfortable win for Glasgow. Purchased the stream for GP qualifier & thought the track was great, looking forward to it. Fingers crossed for the weather.

  9. Poole Speedway have always (usually) done a heat by heat twitter update, whether the meeting is streamed/videoed or televised.

  16. Since around the mid eighties... Screen, Loram, Cox, Cross, Wigg, Havelock, Tatum, Smith, Dugard, Knight, Thorpe, Doncaster, Harris, Nicholls, Cook, Louis, Woffinden, King, Lambert, Bewley.... And probably more I have missed... All have competed at the very top World or European level, with many of them winning or reaching the rostrum at that level.. Which shows that producing top class English/GB riders who can compete at the very highest level hasn't really been a problem since the sport began... The issue since circa 1985 is that most teams stopped using loads of English/GB lads below that level to fill up their teams with, and instead used riders of a similar level from around the globe, (journeymen without being disrespectful), to fill these slots... These youngsters coming through are not necessarily the 'next gen' of World Champions, (some may reach the level of the riders mentioned), but hopefully most will go on to provide a constant stream of 'mid level' riders with which to fill teams with and, hopefully have enough 'top level' lads to get "Team GB" back up consistently at, or near, the top of the rostrums of the various FIM events.. And, as having a consistently victorious 'national team' is is the only way the sport can get the mainstream media and major company sponsorship involvment it needs to grow the domestic leagues, then lets hope the plan to get these lads plenty of racing opportunities and development works.. When at least five out of seven riders in every team is British, and there is a clear demarcation between all the leagues, (be they two or three), then the domestic product may once again start to attract more interest...

  17. Yet again, 22 overpaid pre madonas kicking a bag of wind around an Italian park takes preference over speedway. Right business decision by the promotion but a pain in the a**e!

  18. but surely by mentioning that these names will be tearing it up across Europe in a few years rather than plying their trade in the UK shows the big issues in the sport in the UK and as a whole? Also as a side note i don't buy the clubs nurturing these riders, yes credit can be given to clubs who take a chance on a rider without credentials and they turn into something but all those listed above could have their pick of teams and the only reason the clubs are interested is to their own benefit. They were nurtured by their dedicated families and support networks who put all the miles in when they were starting out.

  19. please don't say anything remotely positive it doesn't for the agenda of the doom mongers most of all won't ever have seen any of these exciting kids in action as they haven't been in years and are proud of it or they aren't planning on going as much for various reasons either. No doubt all of those names and a few others will be tearing it up in Poland, Sweden and all over Europe in a few years time, whilst the Clubs that nurtured them are housing developments of laid waste whilst on the BSF the moaning goes on....

  20. I completely agree with you, quite how people can post negative comments regarding the fixture list I find quite surprising, when it's not even known what riders will be participating. Yes, it's very different from the conventional team matches, but at the end of the day, it's still four riders turning left for 4-laps, giving it their all in the name of entertainment, something that is lacking at certain tracks in recent years. If I lived on the island, they would get my 100% support every meeting, and if I was a holidaymaker the weeks they were running a meeting, they'd also get my 100% support. In this day and age when British holidays are almost a thing of the past, 2021 is an exception to that rule, and if you check out the IOW website for things to do of an evening, you'll find nothing, with the exception of a theatre doing a show one night a week, and speedway, the only other thing on offer is if you take your family trolley racing round the aisles of Tesco at Ryde until 10.00pm. The people that sit on the top table running our sport, have seemingly done everything in their power to close this forward thinking club down, and thanks to the determination of Messrs Bishop and Widman, have failed. As many supporters round the country know, once their club closes down, seldom does it ever reopen, finishing up as a housing estate, or another supermarket. So I hope it is a success for them, they've put a lot of time, effort and money, travelling from different parts of the mainland on almost a weekly basis to get the stadium into what looks a lovely venue to visit, and you have only got to check out the cost of the Wightlink Car Ferry, let alone the cost of fuel in reaching Portsmouth, in their determination to ensure that Smallbrook Stadium isn't added to the defunct tracks from 2022 onwards. Bravo to all of you concerned.

  22. Apparently volunteers are being asked to help clean up the stadium in anticipation of re-opening? If I was still local I would certainly make myself known at Sandy Lane having helped out during the rescue of the stadium back in 1976 and also when under the Wagstaff regime. I wish them well!

  23. The old Second Division/National League produced a hot bed of British youngsters (and a few Anzacs!) and it's no accident that when the National League and British League went their seperate ways the talent began to dry up and the National Team lost its world dominance.

  26. So Sheffield bring in anders Rowe to guest for rising star josh bates. While Rowe is a rising star and bates isn't (in real life terms) how can Rowe a none rising star, (as he choose not to be), guest for bates????? Not knocking Rowe as extra rides will only help British speedway in the long term. Another way of looking at it. Bates on his 4 rising star average is replaced by Rowe who has a 5.49 average. Speedway rules eh

  27. Not so sure on Lasse. The tracks been altered since he last rode at Leicester and I'm never certain on his temperament. If he's in the right frame of mind he can be unbeatable but there are times, just like his brother, when he doesn't seem interested. Think we need somebody more dynamic. In the gaffer, I trust!!!!!

  28. How long was the delay to wait for the drizzle to stop? Doesn't seem worth making a fuss over if it wasn't long, and I'd agree that the finer the rain the harder it is to see out of a pair of glasses/goggles.

  29. Technik doesn't want it all for nothing and has never claimed to. The point raised was that the streams are in their infancy and some of the reliability issues are yet to be smoothed out which may cause some people to consider if its worth the gamble or not? Would anyone attend the cinema to watch a film if there was a chance that it might freeze for 10 minutes, have a section with iffy sound and then cut off the ending? Obviously the streams are not that bad but there is still the possibility. Clubs won't be able to continue with the streams once normal attendance figures are allowed and indeed they would then be creating competition to their own product. Enjoy them whilst they are around and show your support to the updates once you return to using them.

  30. Ive been watching Brennan, Rowe and Thompsons for a good number of years when they were hacking round doing laps after meetings (the miles Del & Anders put in was mind blowing). The Thompsons could utilise Leicester, Coventry and Brum often in the same week without quite such brutal travel and obviously Brennan had plenty of local track access. Plain & Flint ive seen a bit less of so 6-8 times each and there are others coming up through the ranks who will soon be joining them like Max James and Luke Harrison.

  31. I'm a bit of a doom monger myself... only because I want things to drastically improve and see the sport succeed and I'd be the first to be on here mongering doom if these riders were young wobblers totally out of their depth... but for once they're actually not! Now not all of them are going to go on and become world champions, or even be world class, some will undoubtedly drop by the wayside but at the moment, for me, I think the future looks quite bright for these kids. If anybody hasn't seen these kids yet I suggest you get yourself along to have a look at them, you may be surprised... I was

  32. As for anybody losing interest, I suggest you get out there and watch some of the young talent that is out there this season. It's been a breath of fresh air watching the likes of Rowe, Palin, Brennan, Flint, Thompson Twins and the others scoring well, being on the pace and getting stuck in and scoring quite well. I know the leagues have been weakened so they may be flattering to deceive a bit but the for long term future of the sport in this country this is a massive positive... all it needs is for the tracks to still be around for them to make a career on, and for those losing interest to go along and have a look at them

  33. Don't know if I'm the only one but I actually thought the back wheel change for Sam Masters before heat 15's last heat decider on Monday night's TV match was quite exciting. It was like watching an action movie with the timer going down on the ticking time bomb only for the hero to cut the red wire with 1 second to spare! Maybe that's the way to go for every heat

  36. The same ‘business sense’ as running a double header against two of the best visiting teams to attract a crowd when people moan about paying extra to watch the Gems double headers perhaps ? Or not having a competitive team when your team is your main attraction ? Or not having an experienced track curator when you have even less time to prepare a track due to an earlier start time ? As a life long season ticket holder I’ve been through the good times and the not so good, this is the worst but we will , hopefully, get through it and struggle on but we need to be savvy . We’ve already had the begging bowl out so we need to tread carefully better times ( no restriction on the crowd limit ) are coming so it makes sense to run more meetings then than now.

  42. Think I have said it until I am blue in the face, but the "main event" of British Speedway should be a British Grand Prix Championship rather than the one-off British Final Use this event for Eurosport, have it sponsored, decent prize money, see if Eurosport could change the TV slot to other days i.e. weekends perhaps Most riders domestically are aiming for Poland, realistically not many will get there, if they do only a few make it pay, so why not have a British Championship for British Riders that is the pinnacle of British Racing and offers the prize money that will get people racing Speedway, should over a number of years (with the correct investment in youth speedway with a clear path to Semi Professional & Professional racing) increase the number of British riders coming through the system League Racing should be 2 leagues (British & National)

  46. Fingers crossed that those riders with Island connections make the first leap. Plenty of ex Warriors and away riders who made the most of the extra laps available to them. Will only take a brave few to get the ball rolling. Just hope riders remember those who have provided opportunities to them in the past.

  47. This is Allitt's level for me. Absolutely brilliant with the development of youth rider's. Unfortunately I don't think he has the strength mentally for the Premiership, dealing with rider's that have their own mind. Not sure Schroeck is working as Team Manager either. A change is needed for 2022.
