Surely you go for your best two riders on the night if trying to win the meeting??? If your taking part and not trying to win every match, whats the point??4 points

as always Dean, total common sense. Let the GP and Polish league guys spend themselves daft and we go back to basics, all 3 leagues.4 points

Leigh Adams once said anyone can buy a cheap speedway bike and learn to slide. Perhaps we need to get back to that philosophy at championship level and take out all those extra expenses.4 points

Basically they cant call themselves Russia or claim it was a win for Russia if either win the GP. It all seems lip service to me tbh and something I get bitter about. A friend of mine and her hubby lost in the World Mixed Doubles (curling obv) to Russia in Sweden in 2016. one of the athletes who was found to be abusing the rules was the Russian male in the pairing. He was found guilty but they didnt take the title off them. If Emil wins the SGP he WILL be world champion. The reason the GP is being called Togliatti and there is no flag is to allow them to hold it. Technically it shouldnt really be getting referred to as the Russian GP. Anthem I have no idea about but we might find out soon with Emil. Its all stupid stuff down to the international authorities not being willing to come down hard on the drug culture within the Russian Sports system2 points

hawks1975, I could not agree more. I thought that the match against Redcar was a terrific entertainment and at one point I thought that the Kings just might get a result. While that turned out to be too optimistic, there were still a lot of plusses. Old Bob at Herne Bay should actually stop criticising from afar and failing to support his local team. Take the trouble to get out of your armchair, turn off the telly and enjoy what Hawks, myself and hundreds of others are enjoying at Central Park.2 points

Agree I streamed the previous week against Berwick and there were over 120 people on the live stream, all revenue needed in these times.2 points

Well.... As somebody who as worked in IT for, well, a very long time.... I can say that the process to register was very easy and then to buy the ticket for the live stream was really easy. It was a slick presentation - we all know that speedway is miles better when you are there compared to watching it on TV as it is simply a lot faster when you are there, but this was good, several camera's and you felt close to the action. I have to say that the comment on this thread above: "The production team do a pretty good job and presentation is commendably laid back, with no excessive shouty bits when a home rider hits the front. Possible exceptions to this are when Josh Pickering gates last and ends up first after taking the scenic route round the dog track" Got mentioned on the commentary at least twice it was funny. Bitchiest comment of the night was at the end of the interview with the mascot "Ed the Monarch" (who was mute) and the commentator stated he said as much as some riders in that interview. Good stuff I think that other promotions should take a leaf from Edinburgh's book and try the same thing - there was 84 people on the live feed. That's a good addition for speedway gates. Well done to all involved. Even as an away fay watching their team get walloped, it was good.2 points

Redcar were always going to be too strong for a Kent side now having to do without possibly their best trapper - Bacon - and having their second heat leader, Heeps clearly struggling after his injury. Yet in Nicholls and a very impressive Paul Starke, plus the ever reliable Ben Morley, they put on a fine show. A word also for the struggling Paul Hurry - he looked more on the pace and was excluded when trying his best to keep Charles Wright at bay in his second ride. It was also very interesting, as a Kent follower, to see how Drew Kemp rode. In his season at Central Park, I often thought he didn't do himself justice, but with this display he really showed how he has progressed in such a short period of time. Scotty had to go some to beat him in heat 10, and he won heat two by a mile. Yes, there were reruns - what do you expect with James Sergeant in two of the first three races! In all fairness though, the lad gated fairly in four races and rode as well as I've ever seen him to get two wins in his 10 points. Not bad for a second string with an average barely over 4, yet his number one, with an average over 9.5, struggled to make a start all night! Spectacular 'offs' for first Jake Allen and then Charles Wright were the result of racing incidents in which the Kent rider was racing hard for the points. I for one am quite happy to accept another rerun after such racing. Clearly Kent need to strengthen, but being a Tuesday night track surely rules out all those who ride in Sweden and limits their options greatly compared to other championship tracks. Judging by the great reception young Dan Gilkes got after his post meeting spin after, by his standards a below par night, I'm optimistic that the majority of fans will continue to support the team in this difficult first season. Treat yourself Old Bob - get down to Central Park and enjoy watching two Premiership stars in Scott Nicholls and Paul Starke racing at the top of their game.2 points

Yes, I tend to agree that it was rather one-sided. I had expected a much closer contest. It got a lilttle better after heat 5 though. P.S.: Let me recommend You not to miss the chance to got to Cloppenburg next weekend for the 250cc World Champs. You will enjoy that, I am sure!1 point

Sounds pretty unusual to me! You should know, it's weird things like that that interest me, so I'll do some research to see if there are any similar cases. That's if BL65 doesn't beat me to it!1 point

Agreed.. The reality will of course be somewhat different.. There could be a fair few team changes I reckon as those teams in Poland who cannot get into the play offs, or have no fear of relegation, start to jettison their overseas higher earners.. Never forget that winning the leagues over here is very prestigious so changes will have to be made.. And for the others, you might just break into the "Top Six"..1 point

Great Performance by the Landshut Devils today. I am really please how they find their feet in the Polish Division Two now. It is only their first year in this league, but compared to our northeastern compatriots from Wittstock, who are in their second season, Landshut is doing a lot better. Today, I was expecting a home win over Poznan, but not by such a huge margin. Bergé has been a great signing, and Huckenbeck is on top form. Two very reliable Point scorers. Martin Smolinski is also slowly getting better again after his injury, that gives us three very potent heat leaders. The second strings of Michael Härtel, Tobias Busch, Valentin Grobauer, and Nick Skorja are all capable of scoring points. Norick Bloedorn is a very good jnunior rider, but there is a weakness at the second junior position. Hillebrand seems to be the better choice compared to Mario Niedermeier. All in all this team is very competitive and we are confident that they will make the play-offs - it is between Landshut and Rzeszow for the fourth spot behind Opole, Rawicz, and Daugavpils.1 point

So not true. Full attendance for next Tuesday's meeting and beyond; catering outlets re-open (although not yet sure about restaurant?). Champs Bar will NOT be open due to the severe flooding which badly affected the offices and pretty much destroyed the floor in the Champs function room; new merchandise available. The club aim is certainly to get into the top 6 for the play-offs and will have a strong consistent run of home meetings in the run-up to the season cut-off, unlike some of the clubs currently sitting pretty having completed many more of their home fixtures. And perhaps more importantly as regards filling the vacant Number 2 spot - the iron in the fire is getting increasingly hotter..............!!! As for the stadium future, if part of the car/lorry park is to be partially developed - this is unlikely to happen for at least another 2 years if not longer. Keep the faith. COYP1 point

East End Fan clearly enjoys his speedway at Central Park Sadly nothing I read on the Speedway Updates site about the meeting remotely tempts me back to watch a speedway meeting. 6 heats all restarted, delay after delay with the new rule of "anticipating the start". Referee changing thier mind about exclusion decisions. Capped off by 2 mismatched sides , with the home side never looking like snatching an unlikely victory. Thats "Top Quality" racing ? Not for me.1 point

She was much more than that... She was the first host presenter in the history of the sport on TV in the UK who was actually a knowledgeable fan. Was able to bring more to the party than the stock "what is he thinking right now", "will he be making any changes to his setup" and "is the track changing" questions. And was a decent presenter too. Everybody else has been a rent-a-presenter.1 point

By getting his average down I assume he is throwing wages away too? In not then no wonder the sport is in trouble. By that I mean a rider is getting paid for 10 every week regardless, so if he only scores 4, it’s no skin off his nose, and his average goes down to boot, meaning the next club will get the benefit too, it’s all wrong.1 point

How miserable can you get? Shanes and Paco are deservedly fans' favourites, and Morris could get back to the form which scored a maximum in his last race in 2019. Anyway, who woul;d you replace them with? Stephen Whitehouse?1 point

'iainb', first it's good to see you have the good grace to admit when you got something wrong, I am sorry I referred to your peurile ignorance - I could have been more measured in my frustration. However you still don't seem convinced by the decision so I thought I'd lay down some of the points I would have considered when postponing a meeting, which I have done many times. I hasten to add I wasn't involved in Sunday's cancellation although I understand and accept the reasons. Is the track under water - yes Is more rain forecast - yes it is Can the track be pumped off and dry out evenly (bear in mind the huge grandstand at Peterborough and that when watering for a normal meeting they often don't water under the shade) - probably not Even if there's no more rain can the tractors etc. get onto the track to prepare a racing surface - doubtful Is the rest of the stadium useable? The grass car-parks and the pits have been known to flood at the Showground Will fans, riders and officials incur costs that will be wasted if there is a late call-off Will other costs be incurred for a late call-off, rent, medical, staff etc The Club press release referred to a number of these points but I'm sure they would all have been in the back of the mind. For the record I am not a troll nor the person that closed down Coventry, and my history of having promoted at three different Clubs in three different leagues is something I'm very proud of. It doesn't make me an 'important' person in speedway but it does mean that when I comment there is a good deal of experience behind my explanations. I think it's probably time to put this topic to bed. The decision was made, let's move on. If you can get more information from the Peterborough promotion, as already suggested by another poster, please do share it here so that we can all learn.1 point

Yes quite simple if you think about it. F1 and Moto GP are awash with money and can afford to run the events without spectators or limited fans and have a full programme to fit in, whereas Speedway GP is not awash with money nor are the tracks putting the GP`s on and therefore need 100% crowd level to be able to stage them. Plus with double events over a weekend 11 GP`s can be fitted in in a few months if necessary.1 point
