We're did you get this information because as far as I understand it Oxford wanted premiership but application blocked by the clubs in it . Mr Godfrey dose not make the decisions as it's a board of members he's just the one who announces them and takes the flack for it. Think those that think it's a one man dictatorship need to give their heads a wobble and find another agenda10 points

The eyes of the world have been on Glasgow this week as the great and the good descended on the city. Here are some quotes: Joe Biden: " I'm really pleased to be here in Glasgow and pretty happy to take a 10 point lead down to Poole." Greta Thunberg: "Cookie was pure dead brilliant in heat 15, by the way." David Attenborough: "The Tigers (in their natural habitat) done good but it's only half time and it's a game of two halves, you know." Leonardo DiCaprio: "Great job guys, specially Ricky and Broc. I can't make it on Thursday and I hear there's no live stream. That's a bit pish. I thought Poole were a big team?"8 points

Just a mention to the promotion and track staff for their efforts lin managing to get a match on last night. From the minutes applause for Michael Facenna (RIP) through to the red flares on the Tigers parade lap right through to the fireworks and rider interviews they and all 14 riders put on a great show in front of a bumper crowd Thank you3 points

I see the Insulant Britain lot were out in Brum city centre yesterday. I bet most drivers couldn't spot any difference!3 points

Said before, the BSPL should have done both legs sharing all costs and profits.. Could have done a bit of social media build up to the event on their own social media outlets and on every club website, and their social media, and maybe knocked out both legs for fifteen quid or so in total.. A sporting national title that doesnt have 'live' coverage could quite easily suggest it's a title not worth too much bothering about to be honest.. Personally I think the BSPL should collectively do a "Championship Match Of The Week" all season to give the 2nd tier some importance..3 points

I still don't know why Scottish & Southern Energy couldn't have been approached to sponsor the 2021Play-Off Final (and the KO Cup Final). Just to agree to put their name to it for just a token amount of cash (or even no money at all) would have raised the profile somewhat - and who knows may have even led to something else!2 points

So did I Haza, and like you it was my first experience of a live streamed speedway meeting. I was impressed. Not up to mainstream TV standards obviously, but certainly very well presented with decent camera work and some good interviews. I think other Clubs should certainly be looking at this as a way of generating income from fans who are unable to attend a meeting, or choose not to for what ever reason. As a pensioner now, I pick and choose which meetings I attend as the cost of attending every meeting is just too expensive. Living south of Norwich, its a 100 mile round trip to Lynn for us, plus two admissions, programmes, food and drink and fuel which won't leave me much change out of £60 a meeting. Multiply this by four meetings a month and its £240 out of my pension. You can now see the appeal of a live stream at £11-95. Naturally I'd rather be standing on the terraces, something I've done now for 58 years, but if the sport is to survive it must look forward to other ways to not only appeal to new supporters, but those of us who have been loyal for many years.2 points

That argument is all well and good - some criticism aimed at me from certain people because I don’t attend on a regular basis . But you wouldn’t go in a restaurant and eat a meal every week if the meal wasnt hot or cooked properly- and someone on the next table shouts use it or lose the restaurant- so why would I attend each meeting if I’m not happy with what’s on show ? The bit British speedway fails to sort out is why people don’t attend each meeting or have stopped going altogether the powers at be seem uninterested on that group of people they should be asking why they’ve stopped going and try to change things .2 points

Tell you haven't been to Poole recently! I wish people judge the track on how it is now rather than how it was!2 points

Just got home from a very hectic 32 hours. But overall it went very well. Both flights were on time and but for COP26 would have been a very nice trip to Glasgow. City is nice but was ruined by a helicopter hovering a thousand feet above the city, for the whole time we were there, so very noisy. The huge police presence was also out but if some nutters had started something we would have been glad they were there. And how many police security services were there in plain clothes we didn’t notice? I Thought the stadium tidy. Decent crowd though TBH I expected the crowd to be bigger. Racing wise not bad. A few incidents to mention. Cook in heat one moved big time but no warning from the ref. Worrall moving cannot be blamed on Cook as he was looking the other way. Nowak exc in heat 2 came as a surprise. I was actually looking at him when the tapes went up and didn’t think he touched the tapes. But it was messy and the ref called it as he saw it. I spoke to both Ben Basso and Danny Hume after the meeting and bith said the back wheel lifted at a crucial moment sending them off. Jensen also fell there. Cost Poole 2 5-1s which would have put the title beyond doubt. In heat 14 Brennan’s tried a big swoop but Basso was already there. Brennan ran out of room. Clear easy call for the ref but the crowd were baying. Ref watched replay but result always Brennan exc. crowd very unhappy but if the ref had buckled he would not be a ref any longer. Thanks to Andy for giving three of us a lift to airport. Got there but everything shut, no benches and a long, long night with little to no sleep. Breakfast at 4.30 am but amazed that nearly everyone in the airport was drinking beer or wine! At 5 am with breakfast. A Scottish thing? Was a pleasant flight back to Gatwick and less than 2 hours later back in Poole before 11 am.2 points

Personally, i think 2023 is too long to wait. Speedway needs a track in the South East and Eastbourne could fill that space.2 points

But if there was a simpler option of Oxford just choosing a different night that they're happy with then it makes even more sense. I swear people think Godfrey has this almighty power. It will have been discussed, amongst ALL promoters and Oxford will have made their case too.2 points

Surely the best move is for clubs to operate on the race night that gives them the greatest chance of sustainable success? I wouldn't be opposed to the CL being run mostly or even solely on Friday nights. Guests or RR could still operate, maybe even utilise unattached guests as there will be plenty of NDL riders out of work. Forcing clubs to run on non-optimal days and then questioning why they are closing at an alarming rate is a hallamark of the current mafia board.2 points
-
It's a sensible move! Clubs struggle on Fridays as it is for guests etc. You only have to look at the prem when all 6 teams are riding and guests are needed2 points
-
"it certainly doesn't sound like there has been any attempts to keep him or the club active. Its also pretty telling that there has been no statement from the Board or Controllers wishing a legend of the sport a happy and well earnt retirement" The lack of comments and statements speaks volumes. Presumably anyone that does take over the running would have to pay the fine. The lunatics really are running the Asylum.2 points

Nah, they are just extending the doubling up rule. When Oxo and Berwick meet the away team gets a guest.2 points

Thought the Basso/Brennan decision was correct but a howler from the ref in Heat 2. Excluding Marcin for a non-existent tape touch and screwing the gate 4 advantage for the Tigers. Could be very costly.2 points

Well done to both teams on last night's performance. The thought also occurs that despite a degree of negativity as regards Poole supporters from some quarters along the lines of such as the Championship doesn't need Poole or their supporters, etc, it seems to me to be almost the opposite, i.e. good team, good supporters that know their speedway, just enthusiastic, maybe a fraction over enthusiastic sometimes and why not. Not a so called 'love in' (defo not!), just a bit of credit where credit's due. It will be tough down there, 10 points isn't much, Tigers have it all to do.2 points

I agree. I much preferred it when Lynn were in the lower league. A much greater selection of clubs and riders, rather than the same old faces week after week. The "Premier" league is anything but, with dozens of riders doubling up, so it makes a mockery of the whole concept. Think back a few years when we had riders like Tony Rickardsson, Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, and Nicki Pedersen in the team, and more recently Robert Lambert. Riders of that quality don't want to ride here now, so we must accept that and move on. What the future holds, I don't know, but with the news of Clubs not running such as Swindon, Eastbourne and now Kent, I fear for the future of the sport. We frequently discuss the merits of "One big League" on this forum, and each year it is put on the back burner, but what happens if another Premier league Club withdraws before the start of next season? What if Buster goes through with his threat of selling Kings Lynn and Peterborough, and the new owners (if there are any) don't or can't afford to run in the top league? Food for thought perhaps.2 points

In a league which is desperate for new clubs why was the application blocked? Not wanting to split the Tv money???1 point

Yep that's gutting. But how many times av titles been decided by ef. My favourite club rider Dave Perks, NLRC Peterborough '84......last bend last lap chain snapped only for Ian Barney to pass & take the title. This after he had won his 2 rides at the original staging at Wimbledon before the rain cancelled it. Gutting for all Long Eaton fans.1 point

All clubs need to be doing it really although I like the way Edinburgh organise theirs, you have to live outside a certain radius to be able to purchase their stream so as not to put off local regulars from going. Lynn are slightly different too in that bar and food outlet sales are a big part of the income so I'd imagine anything that might compromise that would have to be carefully considered. It might also put off away supporters but in general its a good thing and could save the sport if done properly.1 point

Don’t think Basso caused Tom to fall.Tom was loosing it on the outside line and front wheel got into the heavy dirt coming out the bend, think the Ref got it right.1 point

That year doesn't exist sorry! But if it did exist I'm sure Coventry only had a 6 point lead from their home leg so that's why I'm a bit cautious. You just never know with playoff finals. You have to expect the unexpected.1 point

Stream purchased and looking forward to what should be a classic encounter between two evenly matched teams on a great racetrack. As a neutral, and with 2 ex-Monarchs on each side, it's difficult to know who to root for, but I've got to go for the Scottish side and hope Cookie weaves his magic round the Possil Park bowl. A 10 or 12 point victory for Tigers would set up a very interesting second leg.1 point

One of the most imaginative venues you could find for Speedway. In a clay park with an adjacent lagoon, the refs big bus and a cracking racing track. The magic was ramped up when late on in the evening the mist used to descend to above the track level, and it just looked like a film set. Magic venue with fans to match.1 point

A Provisional Russian Fixture list has been published, and there will be plenty of meetings shown on You Tube, either by the club or by Anton and his trusty band of helpers on the Ice Gladiators YouTube channel . One change is that the Higher League will run three meetings rather than 6, all on the first day, with the Team Cup of Russia for Juniors on the second day. Individual Russian Championship: December 18-19: Semi Final 1 (Ufa) Semi Final 2 (Shadrinsk), December 25-26: Final 1 (Togliatti), January 5-6: Final 2 (Kamensk-Ural).
