  1. I will make a very brief return to clarify some points made here. Yes, I do have a very detailed knowledge of what is going on, having served throughout this saga as an advisor to Steve Ribbons. We have been friends for many years. I have therefore read and advised on all correspondence between the Rye House Action Group, the leaseholders, Carter & Bailey, the land owners, The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the planning authority, East Herts Council and also the SCB. I also supplied information to the public via the Speedway Star and social media. I even trusted this forum to accept the information I was sharing in good faith. Sadly while most responses were intelligent and respectful about our efforts others saw personal vendettas as far more important. At the point where I ceased posting here I also told Steve to 'leave me out of the loop' for some time while I dealt with my own ill-health. After a good break I hope now to resume assisting. I will however keep postings here to an absolute minimum. Here is the current situation: All is on hold until the planning application is heard by the council. We hope that this will not be delayed too much further. We have issued a detailed proposal which would see the speedway track restored and racing resume. This was at the invitation of the kart promoters who even suggested that we might be able to resume racing in time to join the NDL in 2022. They subsequently changed their position to say that our proposal was now to be included in a list of options to be considered after seeing their planning permission granted. Much work has taken place. The stadium and race track have been modified but not irreversibly. We have engaged specialists to assess the way to reinstate and crucially the cost. We do have access to funds that would pay for track reinstatement and entry to the NDL. We have the technical, legal and financial resources to see this project through. Steve is a key player but far from the only. We are not dreamers but sadly right now we are in the hands of the kart promoters. THESE THINGS TAKE TIME. I am not going down the road of this being a starting point for what is too often damaging and ill-informed speculation. Our priorities lie with the job in hand, not satisfying the egos of the darker side of the BSF. Sorry to the decent contributors. Rob McCaffery. (51 year fan)

  8. Lets hope Rye House speedway return cause I'm sure a properly ran operation on a Saturday night in the NL or the Championship would draw viable crowds!

  10. Racesuits are ok... But leave the bike covers and helmets alone!! They're the riders identity...

  11. Decent, experienced reserve though to partner with young Jacob, not a bad option imo, but I agree... He's never going to make it big...

  12. I really like how Edinburgh announce their team tbh... I bet it's annoying having to wait so long, but once the livestream (on THEIR WEBSITE ) comes around and they announce the riders one by one and interview some and give a little thought about the signings, it's really good and very professional for a speedway team at least. Better than some Twitter post and some generic picture of said rider. Well done Edinburgh, always up there near my favourite 3 or 4 clubs Even though I've still never had the opportunity to visit yet...

  15. What a cock-up. Who is this Pete Woodhouse? It's not just a simple typo using the wrong name. He clearly thinks King's Lynn have signed Steve Worrall.... It even makes mention of this new signing being the twin brother of Richie Worrall who has ridden for King's Lynn in the past.

  19. No idea who else the Witches could sign to be closer to the limit? The Prem has had to bring in some second-hand riders to bolster a couple of teams (Basso is closest to a "new" signing), and BV seem to be struggling to fill their seven. On top of that, the Witches don't have a recent record for unearthing new talent from anywhere ... The riders they have chosen to wear a Witches suit are popular with the vast majority of home fans - who simply like to support nice blokes, who try hard. Many of them still love Heeps, despite his frustrating lack of overall progress - and King is a hero, even though he's never shown the same capability of team riding that we associate with the truly great Witches #1s. It'll be fascinating to see if King can develop any sort of understanding with Doyle for Heats 13 & 15, and the new pairs competition.

  20. I've always though he underachieved there, maybe a change of scene & getting paid on time might work wonders.

  31. Having started this thread on 23 January 2020 with the following post:- Just seen Kevin Jolly has plans for Rye House for entry into NDL for 2020, any views on this. Think it would be great. I have nothing but admiration for your efforts Rob, keep up the brilliant work and hopefully it will bear fruit.

  34. Very rarely Edinburgh don't put together a challenging side, expect nothing else for 2022. Interested to see how solved the 3rd heat leader issue or gone strength and depth with strong top 2

  35. Great effort considering he was up against far more experienced riders. Zach (spelled ZAC in the racecard!) did well too and should both hold their own as second strings in the Championship.

  43. We have been through terrible times , almost going out of business on numerous occasions, had more homes than possibly any other team, but when the Facenna's took over, they were trying to save the fooball and speedway at Ashfield, don't know if you have ever been, but the stadium was an absolute dump, toilets a no go area, the Facenna's spent a lot of money upgrading it and the track, widening it and digging out the underlying holes and bumps. They paid riders on time without fail, and yes initially they overpaid to get riders to come , as the travelling was an issue, but since the guarantee with a previous rider who let us down on numerous occasions, we no longer give guarantees, riders are paid on performance. Glasgow were not the top payers in the league. We are just trying to raise the profile of speedway nationally. I hope no more teams are lost. Happy new year to all speedway fans and all clubs, hope we can get rid of this covid virus and get back to some sort of normality.

  44. Gilkes as stated looks the leagues top rider and will likely max out almost wherever he goes but as a home track im not sure it is really any benefit doubling up. Atkins is on a false average but has stalled for the past few seasons due to injuries etc, looked like he could have been Flint level but is getting left behind and does need a strong season this year. Andrews an obvious enough choice but uninspiring and always has question marks over his kit. Extance looks a high average to me and will offer little away. Meadows in my opinion features due to age rather than ability and will frustrate some. Trigger and the remaining rider is key. If its a strong final signing then there will always be one good reserve all year, if its poor or even a 3 pointer it looks another missed opportunity side.

  48. I have this 1934 advert for the Crocker dirt track bike, and on the four corners are small pictures of race events. Bottom left reads Mexico City 1933. The others are Los Angeles 1931 (top left), San Diego 1932 (top right), and Oakland 1933 (bottom right)
