Perhaps not pointless for those older supporters who spend their silver pound at Wimborne Road and don't use the forum or social media?2 points

Interesting they went into the Richard and Plymouth situation a little bit. That Richard approached Poole and once it was known Richard pulled out of Plymouth, Poole helped them getting Hans.2 points

True but difficult to change attitudes on here with their longstanding prejudices.2 points

Yes he did,he also signed on for the last few matches, great rider around our track and was popular with the fans, unfortunately he went back on a verbal agreement to be our no1 in 2022 which upset few of the fans, personally I would welcome him back i rate him highly nothing spectacular but always reliable imo.2 points

The trouble with going away from the league sections is that I suspect fewer people read them. The racing on the island is National League standard, so leaving this thread where it is seems about right unless our mods want to move it.2 points

Not quite the picture was taken on bend one looking down the straight to bend four... the bends are banked slightly... but ya right it is a flat as a Japs feyess... as me Maryport Marra says... Yes he has but ask permission first just so he knows who is there... don't want any mishaps.... Regards THJ1 point

With the way the Poles are expanding their Leagues and opening it up its equally likely that the forward thinking Facennas could be in top Polish League in same timescale and entertaining the best riders in the world every 2 weeks1 point

Agreed think Poole got the better deal by far,Lawson will be riding over here for a while yet,and Imo is one of the best riders at this level if not the best.1 point

I and many other of the gladiators fans can’t wait to see Lawson on the 4th of April. Should be interesting.1 point

I think you are referring to the under 16 tests in 2001 & 03 (my what a long time ago). I can remember being very impressed with Sonke Pedersen http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/youth.htm1 point

Whist i think test matches aren't the crowd puller they used to be, i think there is a place in the calendar for an early touring side like Young Czecho or Germany U21 etc. Think Sönke Petersen and Kevin Wölbertt were part f the last young German team to do a tour1 point

That's because he's the British youth champion, surely that would more than meet any criteria required to be part of these things.1 point

Possibly because of your age? NORA 92 Ltd is a motorsport body who licence and run all forms of motorsport, a bit like the A.C.U. but not so old . As the IOW have dropped out of ‘ Official ‘ BSPA/SCB speedway they run events under NORA .1 point

It’s a voluntary scheme so perhaps they declined the invite? , some ‘ kids ‘ have full time jobs and simply don’t have the time to attend. There’s been some lads who have attended once and never returned , it’s personal choice, don’t read too much into it.1 point

Is Dave still with us- I remember him in the famous photo of the 1965 promoters meeting- I think Reg Fearman is the only one on that photo who is still alive unless Dave is. Dave wasn't a promoter but I think he was the secretary of the Promoters Association perhaps. Hey John don't delete your threads- I was about to answer your thread on Jim Heard till it disappeared. I for one am interested in your threads on 1950's riders. Cheers.1 point

A very interesting subject and one that I have monitored closely having been to all 31 countries that staged Speedway (including Ice) since I missed Switzerland’s last staged Ice meeting 2017. The last country I missed before then was Bulgaria in 2016. I thoroughly enjoyed travelling the world to accomplish this and I could probably write a book about my experiences. Sadly I saw pretty much the last Speedway in both Canada and South Africa. I also saw at first hand the decline of tracks in Europe with many countries just down to one operating track Lack of interested riders with few youngsters coming through was a common theme. Some countries were still very reliant on riders who had ‘retired’ some years earlier. Speaking to those riders left in Canada and South Africa I was told that getting parts and bikes were very difficult The machinery was often very old. Kyle Legault was riding a bike he rode in the UK when I saw him at Welland in Canada. I did notice that Flattrack racing seemed very popular in most places outside of Europe. Also in Europe it seemed to be doing well in some countries such as Austria, Holland and Belgium. Seeing the decline first hand was very sad but I’m glad I visited several of the countries when I did as I am not certain I would be able to see Speedway at some of those places again in future.1 point

I'm sure Speedway will always bounce back. It's a bit like a petulant troll having a strop, hiding all its posts, and quitting forever... only to reappear a week later.1 point

Track work starts this Wednesday and the drains are being updated and cleaned out and some more of these were done today along with a variety of other jobs . The air fence had to come down as there will be a new one for the season and the kickboards are in the process of being painted . Was good to see a few new volunteers there with most of the regulars.1 point

Congratulations to BV on their title win. Money can buy you success. Especially when you get a free stadium from the taxpayer.1 point

Dunno, will have a look tomorrow. One thing that's progressing very nicely though are the roadworks around the stadium. You can come off the A34 Walsall Road, and swing a right straight into the One Shop Stopping Centre car park now, rather than having to go all the way to the Crown & Cushion roundabout, do a 180 and come back on yourself to gain access the old way. That'll be a major improvement in convenience. You never know, this fact may feature in a new web page on the Brummies site, to give the fans some more good news whilst they are kept waiting for news of more signings.1 point

Agreed, it's miles better. As with all the other club websites designed by AP media, such as Leicester, Sheffield, Birmingham and Wolves etc. It previously looked like something stuck in a land time forgot.1 point

What they are doing on the island is fantastic. Yes I agree I to would like to see IoW back in NDL but if the current owners cannot agree with the politics then this is their best option. I may not enjoy grass bikes or Flat track machines on a speedway track but I see the business plan in that this allows access to more competitors it is a system that has worked across the world of motorcycle racing. In Australia NZ USA & SA all different types & standards will come together to produce the whole event & nobody can argue that anything upto 50 races is better value than 15 no matter what standard or discipline.1 point

This will be excellent..... NORA British Upright Speedway Championship The NORA British Upright Speedway Championship comes to Smallbrook Stadium in 2022. This brand new event will see two, eight rider qualifying rounds (30th June and 21st July) each featuring different riders with the top six from each qualifier competing in the Grand Final on 11th August. Depending on the riders scores on Finals night, they will then race-off in C, B and A finals with a ‘winner takes all’ A final determining the outright champion. The Championship co-ordinator Lee Coleman said," I am really pleased to be associated with the Wightlink Warriors and proud to help behind the scenes with the British Upright Speedway Championship. The Upright category is attracting more and more interest and this is an exciting opportunity for all the Upright riders to race for a National title on the Island. In fact I wish it was happening a few years ago as I’d have entered myself! Any Upright Speedway riders out there wishing to take part can drop me a message via my Facebook page, or email speedwayontheisland@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll be in touch!" Wightlink Warriors co-owner Barry Bishop added, "Last years upright racing was very well received by the fans and riders alike, so we are thrilled to extend our initial taste of upright racing to bring forward the NORA British Upright Speedway Championship and whilst I can’t announce just yet who has requested to participate I am sure speedway fans are going to be delighted."1 point

We fully appreciate that we are not for everyone. However we have embraced the European/US style of speedway meetings (and I have been to both of them) which last year worked very well, and we hope for the same this year. Personally I dont see the point to say this or that and that along with "glad its not my club" and not have actually experienced what our race nights are about and include. It is so easy for us Brits to put something down rather than saying well done, that is brilliant, good effort, congratulations... sadly it is a known Brit trait However, the simple fact is, and again we fully appreciate that it is not for every speedway/motorsport fan, but the overwhelming result of the year was that people really enjoyed what we put on, loved the atmosphere, and returned. Imagine what could be done without restriction, or fear for riders/clubs being penalised. Our view of the sport remains the same, keep supporting your clubs where you can, attend where you can and provide constructive feedback to your clubs about what you want to see on a race night. Thats exactly what we did. All the best all and thank you all for you feedback, it helps us grately.1 point
