  1. Credit where it's due, I thought Tatum and Louis and Scotty were excellent last night. Kelvin in commentary, Chris in his analysis and comments and Scotty getting riders to open up and not just to inane questions. As good as it's ever been and that's not dissing Nigel at all but praising those now in the chairs.

  4. Not the greatest of spectacles as far as the racing goes and the Bears could be counted as a touch fortunate to race against a five man side but overall I think they deserved the win. The Bandits riders did seem a little disconcerted with the track which may have been drier than they expected meaning only three ‘ overtakes ‘ all meeting and two of them by the Bears ( Andersen and Jenkins ). The over worked Bandits battled hard right through till the end and Morris’s last race efforts denied the Bears the extra point. All the Bandits had the odd poor ride due to missing the gate but the main body scored well and kept it close throughout. Complin a little wild but entertaining although Roynon may not agree. Bickley hot and cold but old man Pijper impressed. Bears we’re reasonably solid , heat leaders , particularly Riss, did their job, Andersen rode as was expected at Berwick , Roynon did his role and the reserves were competitive . Berwick understandably had plenty of track breaks to give their riders breathing space but there was also medical treatment handed out to both Etheridge and Roynon and the riders bikes were being weighed before and during the meeting by officials so yes, it did takes its toll. Berwick is still a club to be admired the way it’s run, on a budget but professionally and with very friendly staff and supporters. Always an enjoyable club to visit .

  7. I hate it when people just write cr&p- ZG this season 45-45 draw at home to Gniezno Away win 48-42 at Landshut home win 47-43 against Gdansk That is not struggling badly.

  8. So Brennan got dragged all the way over to not get a spin with Harris scoring just 4 from 5 on his ‘home track’ and Ellis having a stinker All about the youth this set up!

  9. Completely agree, no excuses on track prep just now as there is no football so the track will be open all week. Maybe someone could point out a weather forecast or two and necessary preparations made.

  12. Whoever is in charge of getting things right at any club needs to get them right on the night. Whether that's the track, programme, presentation, stewarding, medical cover etc..... The fans, like myself, can make valid opinions whether they are educated ones or not. Wot we see on the night is wot we see & determines whether we are attracted to go back again or not no matter what explanation is given when things go wrong. All these wishy washy reasons given, valid or not, are not good enough especially when trying to attract new fans. Oxford was so bad, extremely bad with the dust vs Poole it was like desert storm. Do you think new fans wud want to put up with that each week. Never had shale dust & chips before. I've been going to speedway for 43 years & that was shocking at Oxford, I don't care even if they said something like we put x amount of gallons of water down blah blah blah.... It's all about getting the product right on the night, nothing else matters not even valid reasons!!!!

  13. As someone who is obviously close to Rob you are certainly not helping with the reputation of the club with posts like this. In any line of business where customers pay their money then they are entitled to their opinions and I am sure Rob is big enough to accept that his position will no doubt bring criticism when things go wrong. The former promotion certain had regular criticism over the years. As someone who works for the club maybe a bit of professionalism should be shown by you, especially at a time when the club needs more supporter not less. As a forum for opinions then if you don’t like people having their own then maybe best to avoid reading it!

  14. Sounds like the Sky/Virgin business model... I wonder if you can negotiate at the turnstile and get the same deal that the others are getting?

  15. And as Max Fricke said when interviewed on Saturday - the track was changing all night so he had to be able to read the change. Sounds like maybe other riders can't do that.

  23. Far too many variables make up averages... Eg a riders liking for a home track v his away performances, his position in the team, how many points get "gifted" or "lost" by engine failures, falls, riders "giving up at the back" and riders "managing" their own averages, riding in meetings missing the best riders through fixture clashes, team riding by riding "shot gun" and probably many more... Grade them all...
    1 point
  24. Exactly why you can't use averages for team building, in that scenario. Wouldn't Woffinden come back in on his previous top division average which was about 7.50 or something ridiculously low. So even if riders did drop points you'd have the likes of Sam Masters on a higher average than him. If they can attract the GP stars back, even if Poland allow it, just grade them. They're already doing it with rising stars. Of course a riders average would play a part in defining the grade but averages to 2 decimal places just aren't accurate enough to rank individual riders. They're only even an indication

  29. The issue for me is we all know what type of rider Lambert is (was), but this is his 2nd GP season & he's become a kerb crawler & slow. Lambert's not a great watch to be fair to @pubichair He's seriously improved his gating but his speed & racing style is concerning me A LOT.

  30. I think you where being harsh on Robert myself. He's got plenty of time, and is not being shown up at all. He has 15 points from the first 2 GP's. There a lot of riders in the 16 that have less at this stage, including Dan. I think he's good enough to be there myself, his points tally seem to back that up so far.. As i said, i think you where a bit harsh, but we all have our opinions, and we will have to agree to disagree on that one.

  33. Yeah i thought the 3 of them worked well in their rolls and that being said im sure Kelvin in time will grow into the lead commentary roll, and like you mentioned i think Scott is better suited being in the pits/trackside then stuck in the studio as previous yrs.

  34. Didn't it have something to do with riders manipulating lower averages from the first six matches of the following season such that a 2.00 rider could then be replaced by a 5.00 as the other six riders had collectively dropped 3 points between them, for example. As at the start of a new season the first set of new averages was based entirely on that seasons scores. Making it easy for a 9 pointer to 'take it easy' over the first six matches and lower their average before miraculously rediscovering their form and finishing the season as a 9 pointer. By introducing rolling averages it was then much more difficult for a rider to reduce their average at the start of the season (or at any time) because they'd need to 'take it easy' over 20 matches which is difficult when points = money. I've really no idea why they'd reduce this to 10 matches? That's worse than pre rolling averages. At least then a riders starting average for the following season was based on their performance across the whole of the last season, in which there used to be plenty of matches. Aside from manipulating lower averages for the start of the following season a team guaranteed a play off spot could actually manipulate their averages to have a stronger reserve for the play offs. Say Belle Vue have a commanding lead in the PL with even six matches to go. Could Charles Wright, for example, have six bad matches and find himself at reserve for the play offs?

  37. Always going to be burnt down. Usual tactic of untoward property developers. Leave site for years after failed planning permission. Site is left derelict or in state of repair then an arson attack and burnt down. Then demolished due to safety issues and then planning permission is amazingly awarded. Happens to a number of public houses in London and suburbia - guess Brandon is going a similar route.

  39. The strange thing is that he frequently gets into a good position coming out of the second bend, only to sit and watch as everybody goes past him like he's standing still... He obviously lacks speed, though, particularly when he's at the back.

  42. My brother told me about this last night, it looks much worse than I thought it was. I’m absolutely mortified that in this day and age companies can get away with it, but that’s the way this country is these days . There’s zero real policing, this government don’t give a monkies about proper planning or what real people want. If you can afford it you can get away with anything these days. It’s the destruction of my teens and early twenties, it is sacrilege.

  43. Probably the best available. Ben has proven this season and in previous years that he's very good at Plymouth, although I don't think he'll do much away. As for Harry he's probably the best NL rider out there not with a team and I wish him all the best. Good luck to them both!

  44. Isn't ironic that now the PL run on two evenings (dictated by the Poles I'll argue) and fans rarely have consecutive home meetings on the same evening. And some PL teams have had to changed their race days to accommodate the availability of the same riders because of doubling up. Sorry for the cracked record but it's time British Speedway was run for the benefit of British riders and fans by an independent admin.

  45. Does anyone know long time Oxford fan Geoff Gammage? I recently was in a cafe near where I live and I overhead someone talk about Horspath Cycle Speedway and I happen to remark whether Geoff is still involved? Apparently he still is and I recall many a converstion I use to have with him on the terraces at Cowley together with James Battle going back many years. Small world but here I am in Yorkshire and just by chance met someone who knows Geoff!

  48. The NSS is the same when I watch the Colts... A great racetrack as shown when the Aces ride but the NDL racing is often brilliant... As you say, just a couple of seconds slower, but not that you notice when watching... The NDL meetings (understandably), seem to have a slicker track too from the off which on the big wide circuits means riders using lots of different lines to try and find the grip to pass.. There doesnt seem the same "riding on rails" around the inside that can happen on the deeper tracks when the top riders ride, which often means strung out (very fast) races.. And obviously there is the capability level which means a few more mistakes, thus passing opportunities.. When Belle Vue charged a tenner in total for me and my then 16 year old lad, we went many times to the Colts and didnt go to watch the Aces as it was around £30.. Basically you got your "speedway entertainment fix" for around a third of the cost.. Real Value For Money the NDL..
