Well the P.Offs (P/Ship and C/ship) so far have certainly captured my imagination. Both edge of the seat stuff. In fact I have nearly fell off my seat in the lounge at every meeting only to be woken up by me wife. Certainly the most important BSPA conference in the history of the sport will be looking to build on the great success of this season. It has been truly breathtaking and all supporters must be tyred out watching the action, anlas you are a Peterborough supporter.4 points

It's not a cool on board Scott. It's a bloody awful camera angle and crap when they go to it during the heat4 points
-
why wd we want the second leg when we'd be 30 or more points behind. Best just get a single figure win at home and pretend the 2nd leg isn't happening4 points

GSA figures give you facts, whether you like it or not. People now seem to want a different system that deals in feelings or whether someone had a good or bad night here or there. People are then going to argue about how the facts came about. Finishing last by being dog slow or finishing last with a puncture after leading the race for 3 laps is still 0 points from 1 ride. Is Lambert better than Fricke? when he has a good night yes, but when he has a bad night no. The system isn't perfect, but sometimes I don't know what some of you really want. It seems to me some people want something to moan about more than they want to watch 4 guys, racing 4 laps with no brakes. Half of the people on here don't even go or watch speedway these days, they seem to get their kicks by moaning on here. If that is what floats your boat, crack on. For the record, I think Lambert and Fricke are pretty even overall. At the start of the year Fricke was probably better, by the SON, they were pretty level, and at the moment Lambert is the better rider on form. You can argue all you like as to who is better, all I know is I don't mind watching either of them at full tilt on a good racetrack. Belle Vue brought him in to replace one injured GP rider with another, a couple of members of the BSPL spat their dummy out and withdrew the permission with their own self interests at heart, and neither of them were the opposition promotion at the time. Just another example of where independent governance would work better than what we have at the moment.4 points

I gave up after heat 10 and watched something else, I get Eurosport with my sky subscription , I can honestly say if I had to pay extra I wouldn’t bother. The GP,s haven’t been a lot better either, apart from one or two they have been borefests as well. The sport is on its arse at the moment and the TV coverage isn’t helping.3 points

And trying to get excited about the racing which is worse than watching paint drying. Why don’t they just say this is crap and not worthy of live television, then shut up a play background music during each race. Bore fest sums up this year’s climax to the season and the morons in charge call it entertainment3 points

My memories from early 70s until closing... Collecting hubby bubbly bottles for a penny each. Winning at white city at a Saturday afternoon meeting in the mid 70s. Going on the coach to Bradford to witness their biggest away defeat at the time...kenny carter was in his last season.. Watching hans nielsen winning by nearly half a lap for oxford My favourite swindon rider in the 80s was bo petersen...really thought they would win something with crump, nilsen and simmons The smell of the bikes and fried onions from the burger van. Watching swindon getting a 5-1 in the last heat to win at coventry Standing on a cold bank in the dark watching a tractor going around.. Some good, some bad..2 points

To be fair in the early to mid 90's both tracks served up some cracking racing.. With Aces v Wolves matches often amongst the highlights of the season at both tracks.. Then the bikes developed but the tracks didnt...2 points

Different times, British Speedway was the pinnacle of the sport. 1 off finals etc. Tight difficult tracks today get you nowhere if you want to reach the top. Zmarzlik, now 3x world champ is an absolute speed merchant, no trick track learning to be where he is. Any thought process pre 2000s is irrelevant2 points

Let's be honest British speedway signed a deal with an engine manufacturer and that worked well then signed a deal for tyres you can't use at Peterbrough as they fall apart I'm guessing we will be behind Poland under 11,s in the pecking order2 points

But they are both a long way from being their nations' top riders. Lahti and Loktaev (who may be otherwise engaged at present) must be wondering what they have to do to get noticed.2 points

Ashby was brilliant at his best. He scored a 12-point maximum in the first 6 meetings i went to.2 points

Didn't Chris Morton do a book several years ago? Seem to think it was called something like "until the can ran out"2 points

Agree 100%! When I watch vids on YouTube, it's amazing just how poor the racing was generally. As I've said before, I miss dirt on tracks, black leathers, monkey masks, gleaming chrome machinery etc (which all helped make it the spectacle it was), but the actual quality of racing today is often far superior.1 point

Actually Mr Clemens I've been watching this meeting from a computer screen on holiday in SW Scotland and couldn't agree with you moreI have a wonderful view from my holiday cottage towards the Island of Arran and found it more appealing than watching this meeting online1 point

Complete overuse of the onboard cam in ht14, it offers absolutely nothing to the entertainment, not that this meeting is providing much.1 point

It's been evident that speedway is dying a death for a long time, but it has always been in the background till now. In watching these three play offs it seems it is now 'in your face' and I felt I was actually watching it dying this painful death on TV for all to see.1 point

Sad thing is the two other teams not involved in the play offs would of put up a much better fight than this1 point

So many....one day I will list them but don't really feel like it at the moment, trying to fight for the sport without getting involved with the sham group who are pretending to....but will mention one thing and that's meeting my mate Mark through speedway and enjoying plenty Of times up there with him.1 point

not a fan of this new allowance by the Poles, i don't want clubs to bankrupt themselves in the pursuit of very little and no extra supporters1 point

Easy... The tens of thousands of lapsed fans who will come flocking back to attend every week... All of them very happy to pay 25 quid a pop... Come on. Keep up at the back... Wonder if it is another five year plan.?1 point

Kings lynn v Belle Vue should never have been postponed in the first place but someone thought it was going to rain so it was called off the day before but as it turned out there wasn't a drop of rain that day. Maybe they should stop calling off meetings the day before because they think it might rain.1 point

That happened before the play-off era if the Champions won with meetings in hand. But they still completed their fixtures. But I do agree it looks stupid completing league matches after the play-offs, not that I'm suggesting the matches shouldn't be run - just make sure the league is completed first!1 point

Apparently you could lean out of the window of the house next to the pits and rev the bikes up.1 point

Quite right. And another problem is the chicken-and-egg situation, which also scuppered the 'F2' speedway; why pay £5000 for one of these when you can get a third hand GM for £1500? The same thing will apply to electric bikes,. Unless someone arranges meetings for them with big prizes which will make it worth while to buy them?1 point

The exclusion of Jensen and Kubera from the reserve list does seem perverse. However I am content with the likes of Holder and Fricke competing in the challenge. These are exactly the sort of riders challenge contenders should be proving they can beat if they are to show they deserve a GB spot. Without them we just risk having more Berntzon, Cook and Kasprzak's squeezing in on the strength of one outstanding performance.1 point

As Briggo once said of Crashby " Was the best rider in the world at one time but didn't realise it". Visited the Marlborough Flyer at his workshop in the town about 7 years ago, probably retired now. Such a modest, quietly spoken guy.1 point

It may start as a polish rain off night until they decide they can just use it for live TV matches every week. I wouldn't trust them.1 point

The trouble with averages and figures, they DO tell you the truth. However, they don't tell you the STORY behind the truth. Like who finished top of the 1973 British League Division 1 averages? It was Alan Emmett, with an average of 12.00... Trying to equal out team strengths by averages is great in theory. The big issue with theories is that they are just that - theories...1 point

Of Sheffield could be Champions when they race Ipswich.. Both matches will be important as it will give riders a chance to earn more money and also, for some, a chance to reduce their average for next season.. Now the averages this month are calculated over only the last 10 matches a "poor night" can be very impactful to it, (1/10th impact rather than 1/20th) and therefore very beneficial to them when negotiating a team place next year... And as for explaining it to any newbies, I wouldn't expect too many of them on a cold dark night at the end of October will be in attendance.. To he honest, given the fact the League is already won, I wouldn't expect too many regulars either will be exactly "chomping at the bit" either to get there...1 point

They “failed to ride” at Plymouth because it was rained off? And does anyone actually know anything about the Jubilee Cup, or is everyone just pointing fingers? I don’t see why Glasgow wouldn’t want to win a trophy. I thought the Facennas were desperate to buy anything at all costs? That’s the usual insinuation.1 point

I don't know if the rule change will do much good, riders like Woffinden, Pedersen, Madsen, Zmarzlik, Dudek, Janowski, Lindgren, Vaculik etc chose not to ride in GB long before the Extraliga+1 rule was made. Not worth giving up priority on Thursday's for the sake of 2 top riders (Bewley & Lambert) potentially coming back!1 point

The first race I ever saw at Swindon Ashby beat Olsen and broke the track record. I also remember a dead-heat between them - probably the following year.1 point

The problem was caused by the promoters themselves by having two team building rules that contradicted each other when Bluster became chairman he was going to rip up the rule book and simplify it but of course that didn’t happen. The rules need to be written by a professional with a legal background so the rules are concise and without loopholes in theory if zagar sprains his wrist that could be deemed as a season ending injury as we only have three weeks remaining. So in theory Belle vue could sign zsmarslik to replace him on a 8pt average. ii want to make it clear Belle vue have done nothing wrong at all. The rules are at fault as they are Ill thought out and applied at will. we desperately need a independent ruling body to run our sport before they kill it off.1 point

Absolutely spot on!!...I gave up after 6 heats, any "neutral" who managed to sit through that whole farce with any enthusiasm deserves a medal!.......or alternatively, locking up!!!1 point

Yeah it would make sense start off small and build it up, run in the NDL and make money on track hire, other events etc. However, looks like there could be as few as 7 in the championship next year IF Glasgow were to have a go in the Premiership. I’m sure if that was the case the BSPL would be asking the possibility of Workington joining the Championship. Afternoon racing in the NDL, with trackdays, the British youth championship and a few Open meetings with star names is probably along the lines of what will happen in 2023.1 point
