As long as people aren't please Jack got injured because they wanted another rider, I can't see the harm in speculating on his replacement. Worrying about Jack's health rather than the team won't make him heal quicker. Personally when I talk about replacements I like to add "get well soon" to the injured rider! Many others have said similar.8 points

Absolutely no need to look for a new site. There is a track and a landlord who has to build a new stand at the Abbey.3 points

Would a spell at Poole bring Dan Thompson on to the next level? You pretty much know with the other 3 mentioned where they are at and likely to be at, personally think Thompson is worth a try, best case he kicks on at No2, if not straight away will very quickly be at reserve with an experienced rider.3 points

In that case he should give every British club a 1 finger salute then as nobody in this country seems to want him. I would think he would jump at the chance to ride for any club.2 points

I've had the pleasure of visiting several fences over the last 6 years or so I've been riding, and I must say scunthorpe is one of the least forgiving... thankfully I'm not as quick as some of the previously mentioned riders, but it still hurts a lot more than say Newcastle, Redcar, Kings Lynn, never was quite sure why. There have been numerous severe injuries in the amateur meetings too down the years, where riders have hit the 'safety fence' at relatively slow speed and came out with serious injuries, although I do admit some of these instances are older riders who don't bounce quite the same. There needs to be an investigation into scunthorpes fence at least, even if it turns out to be good enough, better safe than sorry in these circumstances.2 points

1) Poole haven't done anything wrong, so they chose not to pick Kemp this season, it happens to dozens of riders every season! 2) even if Kemp felt hard done by, there's not enough clubs about for riders to hold a grudge tbh2 points

Kings lynn don’t have an air fence that pops or that you can slide under at Scunthorpe if the bike goes in first 9 times out of ten the body takes the full impact into the armco. It really is a dangerous fence that as caused far to many serious injuries the last few years2 points

Well, I received a very prompt and informative reply from Martin at BSN in which he explained the situation with TV browsers, and how the old website did not work on many at all. They will take a look at the points I raised but he did say "Our biggest issue with TV browsers is making it work on so many different types." Martin also mentioned:- "However, we do have a nifty new feature on the new website. As you'll see, below the video is the results. For 2023 meetings, if you click the heat number it will fast forward to the exact point that race begins. This could help with your issue also. We have it set up on the meeting below for you to see it in action." https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/watch/524e0bc1-1302-404f-9293-6f8809cd751d2 points

It’s news to me that you can pay on the gate. Last year if you tried to do that, you were directed to the website where you had to buy a ticket online like everybody else. That said, I believe you can pay on the gate (card only) for the greyhounds, so perhaps they’ve introduced that for 2023. Is that the case?1 point

The irony is that no one knew this job existed. No advert in the speedway star asking for applicants. Were there other candidates or was Phil picked by the BSPL. personally I think it’s a great appointment and hopefully he remains in charge for many years.1 point

Regarding the majority shareholding in Midland Sports Limited, I posted most of the following information in a similar thread about six years ago. In 1924 Allan (often named as Alan) Sanderson, a London based businessman (owner of London Lubricants) and racing driver, purchased the house and 200 acres of land at Selsdon Park in Surrey for £13,000. In 1925 the house was converted to a luxury hotel, operated by Allan and his wife Hilda until 1960, when their son Basil took over the running of the hotel and a golf course which had been added in 1929. The hotel was sold by the Sanderson family to Principal Hotels in 1997. Allan Sanderson formed Midland Sports Limited in October 1936. Initially the shareholders are believed to have been Allan and his wife, although various family members and members of the Ochiltree family were involved in later years. A mortgage was taken out in 1937 and this may well have been to fund the purchase of Brandon Stadium. Allan Sanderson died in 1968, following which Charles Ochiltree, as Managing Director, took the lead role in running Brandon Stadium. Other members of the Sanderson family continued as directors of the company and were almost certainly majority shareholders. Midland Sports Limited appears to have been restructured in 1992, becoming Midland Sports Stadiums Limited, with shareholders comprising Basil Allan Sanderson (until 1996), Mrs Shelagh Sanderson (until 1997), Charles Ochiltree (until 1998), William Peter Gilmour (until 2002), Mrs Linda Ochiltree and Martin Ochiltree. Allan Mark David Norton Sanderson was also a shareholder from 1996 to 2002. From 2002 onwards the sole remaining shareholders appear to have been Linda and Martin Ochiltree. Just after the war Allan and Hilda Sanderson acquired Lythalls Lane Stadium in Foleshill, Coventry, from Coventry Greyhounds Limited, the company which had built the stadium for greyhounds and speedway in 1928. The running of the stadium continued under the name of Midland Speedways Limited from 1950 and after greyhound racing became less profitable it was sold by the company for redevelopment at the end of 1964. When Allan and Hilda Sanderson purchased Leicester Stadium, Blackbird Road, in 1950 the track became part of Midland Sports Limited. Charles Ochiltree took a minority shareholding in the company and had a role as General Manager of Midland Sports Limited. Hilda Sanderson was the owner of several greyhounds over the years, based at Lythalls Lane and Blackbird Road. Barratt Homes made an offer for Leicester Stadium in 1978, but this was not accepted. However, greyhound racing was staged at Brandon from September 1978 and this suggests that the venue was seen as a replacement for Blackbird Road, which was an established greyhound track. It was important to the Sanderson family at that time that a greyhound venue should continue to be available. Midland Sports then finally accepted a bid from Barratt Homes, with the sale completed in 1984. The Sanderson family would have been the major shareholders at that time. Regarding Coventry and Leicester speedway, I am sure that Charles Ochiltree would have regretted the loss of the Leicester track when considering the crowds attracted to local derbies between the teams. When Allan Sanderson was granted a licence to operate at West Ham in 1952 a deal had to be agreed with the stadium owners. With the National League struggling for teams in 1964 Midland Sports Limited was involved in reviving West Ham. Reg Fearman states in his book Both Sides of the Fence that in 1950 the stadium continued to be owned by the Greyhound Racing Association. I understand that the GRA still operated at Custom House until the stadium was closed for redevelopment and probably continued to be the owners up to that point.1 point

Technik said we were missing a big hitter at Monmore but Sam is! that’s what the reply was about, what’s your problem (apart from hating Wolves)1 point

I would go for Drew Kemp, with the proviso that he listens and responds to the senior riders in the team and acts with more maturity, rather than sulk when races go against him. He gas the ability ad we have all seen but did himself no favours at the tail end of last season. A fresh start and I feel confident he will bang in some good scores. Prefer him to Dan Thomson.1 point

May be Jim Lawrence should get off his backside and get up there to check it then. Rider safety is paramount. Maybe they could ask NORA92 to offer some expertise.1 point

The whole point is that the Regs should not require any interpretation. I think that many fans have got used to the make-do-and-mend / sticking plaster attitude of the BSPA, instead of the need for a major overhaul ... which doesn't mean that everything has to change, but a holistic view is required to ensure necessary changes don't impact existing stuff that does work.1 point

What's the evidence that Scunny has a bad injury record? I've always considered it very safe due to the width and shape but happy to be disproved. Gutted for Jack.1 point

I rate Thomas, but given Kemp had a higher average than Thomas in both leagues last season I fail to see how it makes them weaker. Both have lots of potential, the question is can they fulfil it.1 point

It's a tough call this year, with only seven clubs there will be little room for error & I can see there being swift changes should any rider not be producing their expected returns. all teams now have a full seven & whilst some were quick to name theirs submitting to the pressure of the social media whilst a couple played their cards old school. Oveall the teams look well matched some with depth others top heavy but fair entertaining racing should be the result. Belle Vue; A very young side they should do well if they can avoid injuries. I expect Lidsey & Brennan will be the two most likely to make a big jump in average. Mulford (RS) is very new to the shale but has very fast equipment so should progress. Not many will leave Manchester with a victory Ipswich; Doyle & Sayfutdinov as a top two, Chris Louis has worked wonders to get this over the line Add King & Riss to form a massive spearhead. I'm not sure how Rew will fare having seen him in Europe I'm not entirely convinced & the reserves may not be the strongest but there has to be some give. Kings Lynn; I'm sorry to say but I don't think the stars have a strong enough side in any area. I like KK but he is way past his prime & (RS) Edwards is possibly one of the weaker picks. Lets hope the Danes can work together & pull a rabbit out of a hat. Leicester; An average team for the Lions, How much longer can Bomber go on with his wall-of-death sweeps around the boards after missing the start. Is Thompson ready for this upgrade. Like Lynn Leicester have gone heavy on one nation & the lions go Aussie so can that Aussie spirit lift them? Peterborough; After the disapointment of Chris Holder the Panthers bring in Nicki P, IMO a better choice on past records but can he pick it up one more time I think with countrymen NKI & Hans Andersen by his side again he may just & .with Basso & Cooke in the mix it could be a better season at the showground. Sheffield; Jack Holder will again move his career forward this season & pull the Tigers along with him. Ellis will be happy to have longtime friend David Bellego alongside & with Musielak loving the big tracks they will not loose many. I believe Gilkes as (RS) will just get carried on the wave to learn at his own pace. Wolverhampton; In Leon Flint Wolves clearly have the strongest (RS) & he must remain fit if they are to find success. Early reports from Australia show Schlein has not dropped an inchbut I believe they are missing a big hitter at Monmore. Top 3; Ipswich, Sheffield, Belle Vue1 point

Not trying to be edgy just my opinion, Doyle was far and out the best rider in the league last year and can’t see why this year will change that (maybe Bewley will push him) and love watching Emil, I’m just hoping for his and Ipswich’s sake that Poland/Torun don’t start throwing their weight about making him miss any UK meetings for their ‘training’ sessions and other nonsense, the Ekstraliga teams are very precious about their own and they’ll class Emil as that when they want too, luckily in the leagues below they don’t seem as controlling well that’s how it looked with Musielak last year anyway . The inconsistencies of King and Riss would be my main concern as an Ipswich fan and also Rew will take some time to get going especially after a bad knock and as he’s not rode at many of the UK tracks. Personally just want it to be an exciting league with all 7 teams in with a shout of the play offs1 point

This argument has been trotted out time and again over the last year or two. The GP’s, Poland, Timbuktu are all completely irrelevant to what happens here. He was more dominant here last season than he’s ever been hence his 10 And a half point average! He was literally head and shoulders above everybody. Bewley out performed him in the GP’s last season and will be the closest to him here no doubt, but I’ll wager he won’t topple Doyle in the averages here at the end of the season. This time last year there were people on here who like you’re doing now, were saying Doyle would be demoted to 4th best Aussie as Fricke, Kurtz and Holder would all overtake him. They all finished miles off!1 point
