Lewy is right on this one, cookie hadnβt been paid since the start of the season when we were there in May. The comets spent a fortune for the team they had last year.4 points

You've always got an opinion on other clubs but say very little about your own team / track !!!2 points

Playing Devils advocate ( as always) but youβre doing a team manager out of a job ! Why cant 10 plus teams run without separating the league ? The riders are crying out for rides so the more matches the betterβ¦β¦oh, hang onβ¦..not enough riders ? This is why they need to get their support for newbies and the youth sorted out as thats where the riders will come from. The SCB should be running speedway try outs -schools at any track that will host them, invite moto x riders , school kids, fans to come along , for free , and have a ride. The SCB/BSPL should supply bikes, basic kit and tutors to travel around and promote the sport other wise it will be dead within the next few years. This sticky plaster approach isn't going to save it.2 points

As I have said elsewhere for a family sport that they keep on about I feel is getting expensive now. A average family of mum and dad plus 2 kids over 11 and your admission is Β£60 add to that programmes, parking and a bit of food plus petrol and your talking of around Β£100 for a family night out. To date they have not announced how much programmes will be next season or how much the stadium will charge for car parking. Also judging by the way stadium security were checking bags at the end of last season I can see drinks and snacks not being allowed to be taken into the stadium I can see a lot of people thinking is the 2025 season affordable or maybe picking and choosing there meetings. The best thing is you can be sure that if the crowd numbers fall and we end up back in the championship (or worse) in 2026 it will be all OUR fault for not supporting the club.2 points

It's 40 points!! What is more worrying is that 40 points is the limit for each of the next 3 seasons, which (assuming the same number of teams) will likely weaken the league even more.2 points

But we all know who's involved with scunthorpe speedway But sure everything is done in best interests of the sport2 points

agree with all that didnt explain myself very well, i meant two separate leagues with the same riders overlapping is fine in my book absolutely agree that you cant have the six rides / fourteen rides split at the end of the day more opportunities for developing young riders is the way forward2 points

Jenkins cut his teeth at Foxhall, doing many many laps after meetings before signing for Mildenhall. Thereβs a few reasons he wanted a return. Sharing the pits with a couple of world class riders has obvious benefits. Secondly, he started the season poorly and by his own admission, fully expected the old tin tac. He was supported, backed and helped through his early struggles instead of being discarded. That goes an awful long way with riders and isnβt forgotten. Thirdly, and the main argument put forward by the rider and club to get this move done, was sponsorship. He has gained some very good local sponsorship over the past 12 months that heβll only receive whilst riding for Ipswich. It wasnβt a straightforward move because the only way Jenkins was returning to Ipswich was via the rising star role because the number 6 position was always going to be taken by Dan Thompson. There was uncertainty as to whether he was going to be eligible for a return to the rising star list but once it was confirmed he was, Ipswich and Jenkins himself, put forward their case to remain at Ipswich which was accepted. Once that was settled, Jenkins wasnβt going to be riding for anyone else. You can choose to believe that or not, but thatβs the top and bottom of it.2 points

doesnt really matter how its structured, if it means more riders getting more rides on more different tracks then its all good this level of speedway is about development pure and simple, or should be2 points

I agree, and Hilly is correct, riders will inevitably end up where they want to go. Jenkins has all but admitted that Birmingham βpickedβ him but he refused to go there. Kings Lynn also wanted him but he refused their advances also, the Lynn fans will tell you that. Rob Lyon was openly telling them that Jenkins would be targeted for their rising star berth. An Oxford fan talking to Jenkins, at Oxford, is obviously going to be told what they want to hear. Heβs not going to tell an Oxford supporter that he didnβt want to be there is he. The lad wanted a return to Ipswich (and has stated his reasons for it) and dug his heels in to get his move. Jenkins is arguably the strongest rising star on the Premiership list, there is absolutely no way on earth that THREE clubs (Birmingham, Kingβs Lynn, Oxford) all ignored him and left the fourth choice club (Ipswich) to seemingly win the lottery. Nobody believes that surely. The draft picks are a nonsense, no rider should be forced to ride anywhere and Iβm personally glad that some have called that out and got the rides they wanted. But I agree with you 100%, why theyβre still pretending that this stupid draft order picking is a thing and playing the supporters for fools Iβve no idea. βBig changesβ for 2026 apparently (yes I know weβve heard that before) so I expect this to be dropped this time next year.2 points

I think nowadays that the top four win matches.. Especially the top two... Not many No6's are of the level to beat any of the top three (or even four) riders in their own or their oppositions team given their level, and the level of the opponent.. Maybe in the Championship it could happen given the much lower standard of HL's... Teams with a "strength in depth" plan may get some joy from having a "decent" reserve, but up against the top fours of BV, Ipswich and Sheffield (as not many races won't have at least one of them in), having a reserve performance to beat them will be an exception rather than a rule in today's top league I would say..2 points

i think Sam's slump in form came when he went to Leicester, maybe it was too much at that point or his confidence took a massive hit2 points

I think the Sheffield team looks "lopsided" with a weak number 6, but they do have one of the better number 7s. Even with his disappointing season at Birmingham, Flint is still one of the best "rising stars" before any improvement he may find? As many people expected more of him (Leon included no doubt) he isn't looked on as a great signing, but I'd want him in the team ahead of most of the other "rising stars". It certainly makes next season interesting to see how the likes of Sheffield & Lynn fare with their team building being completely opposite.2 points

Every other thread in the Championship section is for opinions, rumours as well as facts official or common knowledge. This is the only thread for confirmed signings.2 points

"give our youngsters half a season each" That is the funniest way of describing a move like this I've ever read. You'd be sacking Mulford because Cairns would give you a better chance of winning (meetings + the POs), it's zero to do with giving them half a season each.2 points

I disagree... whenever I've seen GB/England ride it has always been very well attended SWC/SoN, test matches seem to have ceased since the inception of these competitions. As for individuals when they're run and promoted correctly (PCMT) it's almost a sell out at the NSS. As the BSPL have washed their hands of the national team it seems to be left to the company running Team GB Speedway to stage test matches which they apparently have no appetite for. So we have the situation where we are current World Champions and are not using that for the promotion and betterment of the sport at all.2 points

It's also funny how Blobby suggest he knows how much other clubs pay riders but never says how little Edinburgh pay theirs.1 point

2023 at Oxford Jacob Fellows had 2 home matches, 3 rides in each. Luke Killeen took 6 rides in one & Sam Woods 5 rides in the other. Away from home 3 rides in one match, got 5 in the other when Killeen got injured. Fellows then got dropped before getting a fifth match. That's a prime example of a rider who would've benefitted from getting a minimum of 5 rides per match.1 point

So still TWO then, two clubs but three teams who , it appears , struggle to fill the teams on a regular basis and use the R/R facility in a junior fixture . Im glad they provide race time but you wont ever convince me that it's a β league β until theres more CLUBS in it.1 point

Can reccomend this, when I was way younger my Dad took me fishing to Filey, North Yorkshire, this woulda bin late 1970's / early 1980's ?, & I was delighted to discover sand racing was taking place - who knew ? I had just got into speedway a few previous years ago & recall there were different classes: grass / sand track bikes, Moto-X, sidecars, diff engine capacities, etc. Recall one guy seemed to be in almost every race, we watched him & he just re-fuelled & went straight again. Speaking to him afterwards he told us he rode a 250 so could compete in many more classes (250, 350, 500, unlimited, etc) so more skids for his buck. One last thing: we know how a speedway track changes so rides different as a meet progresses (dries out, dirt moves, etc) well the Filey track actually changed shape as the tide came in, from a big 'Belle Vue shape', towards to the end was a long 'sausage-shaped track', imagine, say, IOW's straights with Lakeside's bends. But, yeh, a good day out, reccomended. FOC too....1 point

Ipswich Belle Vue Sheffield Leicester Kings Lynn Oxford Birmingham Play offs? Depends on who can get Bomber to guest and who wants to take an end of season punt on Lambert.1 point

This is what confuses me, why have a rule voted on by the clubs, which all the clubs agree to ignore? Why not simply say every club has to use an RS & not mention order of picks?1 point

It's a good idea let's hope that if they run 6 man teams they give all riders 5 rides , no using one reserve 7 times and others only getting 3 rides. It's a development league and you don't develop being pulled out of your heats. there will be doom and gloom posters who think it's rubbish but with a lack of competitive riders at that level 10 plus teams can't run without separating the league. also can't wait for the it should be an upright league brigade to chip in.1 point

Was just scanning through Oxfords site.... Schroek won manager of the year? That has to be a wind up? Cami must be a certainty next year π€£1 point

So you would be happy for Ipswich to keep the same team but be well under the points limit. Teams change every year to fit below the points limit. Rules are rules, all teams have a choice what they do to fit to the points limit. So if the rumours on here are true and BV drop Mulford when Cairns becomes 16 is that not by choice?1 point
