  2. Crikey, there won't be a better 1-5 in the league that's for sure. Some job by the Glasgow promotion, if that team won't excite fans up and down the country in the Championship this season then none of them will. Fair play to the team up there, exciting times for Tigers fans

  5. Looks a good rule to me, especially with the 2 leagues. I'm still of the thought that the likes of Morley coming back in can only help youngsters with their development in these leagues. Jon Armstrong always springs to mind, all the help he gave to youngsters over the years in the NL, even though much the time he was a heat leader.

  6. I'm not a Glasgow fan but I must say that's a brilliant creative way to announce the team well done to whoever put that together. Also looks a solid side on paper.

  7. good team there, to go with one of if not the best race track in the league

  8. And you've hit the problem squarely on the head. I have been saying for years that it's nothing to do with the actual speedway - it's everything to do with the overall entertainment package on offer. Make it an entertaining evening all-round - with noise, light, atmosphere - and people are more likely to go home feeling satisfied.

  11. Delighted with that team. Statistically the two most improved riders in the Championship last season in Boughen and Thompson. I don’t rate Flint, but he has a second chance here and with one season under his belt, will hopefully kick-on. Hodder’s 6+2 from four while guesting in the last home fixture of the season speaks volumes for his potential. Nothing needs to be said about Harris. We’re favourites for this league title. It’s coming home.

  12. The name is on the tin, development. Yes, I would think part of entering will be down to the desire to win, but as the management of the Kent Eagles are showing (I am no part of this management team) they are showing the desire to not only bring the sport back to the south east of England but also showing they are putting in the foundations of training new riders to the sport. Hats off to Michael and David.

  13. Cairns will almost certainly be at Poole….but these two “weak” reserves as you put it should improve greatly with the track time practice they will get at Glasgow. Ps. When do I get my prize for guessing this team way back in page fourteen of this thread?….lol

  15. The first speedway track to open in Portsmouth was in 1928 when a local man, Mr E I Jones, laid out a 440-yard track in a field, initially as a training track. The first proper meeting was held there on 15 July. A second followed on 29 July. This latter attracted a crowd of 2,000 people. But, sadly, that was the track's last meeting. Speedway returned to Portsmouth the following year, 1929. Promoting pioneer, A J Hunting, had planned to open Wessex Stadium in 1928, but the stadium did not, in fact, open until 10 August 1929 under the auspices of Wessex Speedway Co, in conjunction with Dirt Track Speedways (the company behind West Ham and Southampton speedways). This was also a 440-yard track. Because of the tie-up with West Ham and Southampton, many of the riders appearing at the first meeting were contracted to those two clubs and included Sprouts Elder, who won the day's major event, the Golden Gauntlet, Tiger Stevenson, Ivor Creek and Buzz Hibberd. The track continued to run a series of open meetings for the rest of August with riders of the quality of Frank Arthur and Bluey Wilkinson appearing. The last meeting that year was held on 31 August. A new 382-yard track was laid for the following year, with the first proper meeting being held on 21 April 1930. The track ran a series of challenge matches with a team called Portsmouth which included Steve Langton, Tiger Hart, Bill Clibbett and Ted Bravery. Plans to enter the Southern League in 1931 were aborted when the local council announced plans to build houses on the site. Although the plans to build houses never materialised, speedway was never again staged at Wessex Stadium. The last match ever staged there was between Portsmouth and West Ham on 2 October 1930, which ended in a 26-26 tie. In 1935, Harringay promoter, Tom Bradbury-Pratt, built a 300-yard track inside Portsmouth Greyhound and Sports Stadium at Tipnor. Bradbury-Pratt was having trouble completing all of Harringay's home fixtures so he planned this new track to ease the pressure on their Green Lanes track. In the event, however, only one league match was raced there, on 2 October, when Hackney defeated Harringay 35-32 in a National League match. A week later, a challenge match was due to be held against Wembley, but it was rained off. Speedway returned to the Tipnor track in 1937, when the Albatross Motorcycle Club promoted two meetings there, both challenge matches with Portsmouth taking on a team called Basingstoke and Reading. Further attempts to reintroduce speedway to Portsmouth after the War were made, but they proved unsuccessful.

  18. Have to agree, only seemed to take him 2/3 laps to sus a new track out and he looked smooth and quick in his next rides. Surprised Leicester went for Cook over him- if he doesn’t end up at Brum that is!

  20. Nice to know you like to check the treble winning pirates forums regularly 😆 you have a great 1-5 but 2 reserves who were well out of their depth last year. You will need 1 of them to pick up a handful of points otherwise it doesn’t matter who the top 5 are.

  21. He never said that, believe it was Godfrey just making up a reason for the fans instead of saying he turned Scunthorpe down for 2024 Plus if he flys up rather than in van with mechanic (his mechanics are Manchester based from memory) it’ll be quicker than the van journey up to Scunny from his Wiltshire home

  23. I assume Rowe was pencilled in there but changed his mind and went to Poole. Leon was de facto no.2 for most of last season. Bit less pressure I'd say next year and if maintains his average with the hopeful improvement from elsewhere will have done his job imo

  24. Brilliant getting cruz in the video. Happy with that team, what you'd gain at reserve you'd lose in top 5. I'm sure professor Harris will be holding several classes over the season with the particularly the reserves. End of the day if they can score 4 points a meeting between them that should be enough! 2 years ago if never have had howarth but has been very good last few visits so sure will provide the back up to bomber.

  25. That's got to be one of the weakest reserve line-ups I've seen at this level for a long time.

  27. Wasn't that always the case back in the recent hayday of development in the NL when the likes of Brennen/ Flint/ Kemp etc were youngster's, when you and I thought it was a great league to be in with Kent and Eastie ? Just think a few of the older heads helped then, even the ones who found the NL to be their level/safety net? Morley and the like must be able to help with set ups/track craft etc now I would have thought.

  28. Well lets hope that Dan likes the track and gets drawn in the SPG2 qualifier at Glasgow. That could be a very astute signing for both the club and the rider

  30. https://britishspeedway.co.uk/wsra-ndl/2025-ndl-ndt-rider-eligibility/ Rather convoluted - It feels like some guys got together decided who they wanted to be eligible and then wrote the rule to give the desired outcome,

  31. Exactly, Kent Eagles have said the side will be a mixture of youth and experience with the older heads helping develop the younger riders. They are also involved in the training days at Iwade along with Paul Hurry and Scott Nicholls.

  35. Also is there a surplus of rev limiters as when it was attempted previously supply could not live with demand and the idea dropped. Even with double uppers and NDL/NTL being the same riders there needs to be 3-500 PVL coils available before the start of the season. Thats only rough maths with riders wanting 2/3 each and many will want way more than that, same would apply to sellectra.

  36. Antti Voulas rode last meeting of the season for us and scored a big fat ZERO . I doubt (hope) that performance has convinced anyone at they club to sign him foe 2025 . Last three signings will be interesting I get the feeling we are trying to convince one or two riders into signing . We really need another decent heat leader to be competitive .

  37. One if feel like it’s going to bite us on the arse. If plymouth can get him at reserve they’re on to a winner. Feel he just needs a bit of luck which he’s not had over the last couple of years and he’ll put a point no bother on his average.

  38. Brilliant signing 👏 especially if he starts at reserve.

  39. The rule was, if a rider had ever averaged above 4, they couldn't race in NDL. So even 3 points riders like William Lawson could no longer ride in it. Rules must have changed to allow Morley & Harrison to race in the development league, just wish they'd announce the rule changes.

  40. My condolences! For some reason people will pay for Premier League football which is often a rather dull affair - the ball is often in play for only 55-60 minutes of the 90. As someone who has over the years attended a lot of spectator sports I still think a decent speedway match tops the lot.

  42. Would it not be the trophy they'd enter though? Apparently the NDL sides are happy with the amount of meetings they get so any new teams had to enter the Trophy. No difference, except location of opponents obviously.

  43. Glasgow will be running a NDL level Glasgow select team in 2025 with the focus being entering the League in 2026. Andrew Meredith & Gordon Mcdonald will be the team managers, and will be running 'friendlies', individuals & challenge events. After each event all riders from both teams will be given track time after the meeting to allow them to work on things that they may have struggled with while racing. Glasgow will be looking at running on a Sunday for NDL level racing ,with Glasgows track staff running practise days to help with the team funding. Where Glasgow has fallen behind in youth development, 2025 should see a significant change to that.

  44. Yes, why are people OK with Glasgow not doing NDL but if Poole don't, it's the end of the world!

  45. Brady’s antics means that it has already been witnessed this year when we chose to ride in Poland and GP qualifiers when supposedly “injured” preventing him riding in the UK. This is the same situation as other riders and Aces fans openly slaughter other clubs for it. All I’m suggesting there will be a lot more pressure on him this season from the GPs and wanting to perform, as well as Wroclaw who will have no hesitation in blocking him from riding in the UK if it’s in their best interests. I think the UK will be slipping further down his pecking order, but time will tell.

  46. The antics refers to him choosing to race in Poland and GP qualifiers than England when supposedly “injured”. This is coming from a Lynn fan who’s riders and everyone else’s riders get slaughtered for doing the exact same thing…

  47. 1. Bewley - will never be the 10+ rider everyone wants/expects him to be 2. Blodorn - has found his limit. A decent 2nd string who is too inconsistent to be anything more 3. Lidsey - in my opinion worse than B Cook who they’ve let go to keep Jaimon. Will never score enough points away from home 4. Z Cook - big downgrade on his brother. If he was at reserve a great signing, in the main body not so much. 5. Kurtz - Will Brady be as committed to UK speedway next year? Big season making his GP debut, as well as stepping up to Wroclaw… question marks raised over him this season with his antics, could we see even more next year? 6. Zischke - no one can question his talent and potential, but coming back from that serious of an injury and seeing all the away tracks for the first time, does make me feel nervous for Aces reserves 7. Mulford - the 2nd worst RS in the league with only Hagon behind him Again, like this year putting far too much pressure on Dan, Brady and Jaimon to score 35+ points a meeting to get them over the line. a longer tail than last year and worse 2nd string support. Aces will make the playoffs but that will be the end of the road for them

  48. To suggest they won't finish the season money wise, is bollocks imo! They struggled last season, so why would they go again if they can't see it through? Just saying....

  49. E-mail message from SCS Campaign. EIGHT years after speedway bikes and Formula 1 stock cars last raced at Brandon, our efforts to have the venue reinstated back to its established use as a leading motorsports stadium continue. During those eight years there have been numerous hurdles to overcome and battles to win, and a lengthy process was always likely in a situation where the site owners have their own different aspirations. Matters came to a head over the last two years when a planning application was unanimously refused by the committee members of Rugby Borough Council, and then even more significantly when that refusal was upheld on Appeal by a government-appointed Inspector. Despite the attempts of the applicants to circumvent both local and national planning policy and the clear ongoing need for the site as a motorsports venue, the outcome of the Appeal was that there is no prospect of the site having housing potential, regardless of whether or not a 3G football pitch is added. However, given that the decision was taken nearly a year ago, and there has been little apparent activity since then, many observers have quite reasonably been asking what happens next? In our previous communication over the summer, we made reference to the changing political landscape in the area, and in particular the fact that Rugby Borough Council is now led by Labour, with support from the Liberal Democrats, and with Councillor Michael Moran taking over as Leader. A reminder that the Rugby Labour manifesto states: “By 2035 a Labour-led council would ensure that health services meet population needs and that Rugby and the villages have thriving commercial centres where key buildings and venues, such as St Andrews Church and Brandon Stadium, are maintained with pride.” It’s important to note that on the specific matter of Brandon there is cross-party support, and with the formal planning process now exhausted there is a natural window to determine a route forward. So with the Council clearly of the view that Brandon Stadium should exist as exactly that – a stadium – we are pleased to confirm that we have entered into talks with Cllr Moran and the new administration, with the aim being to demonstrate how a viable and sustainable future for the stadium could be delivered. It is already public knowledge that there is significant interest from those who would wish to operate the venue, both for speedway and stock car racing, and several individuals spoke powerfully on this matter at the Appeal. The need for the sports to run at Brandon, and the desire to make it happen, is not in question. What we are currently working on is establishing a clear route to delivery, and an indication of the organisational structure once the venue is operational, and the viability of both of those strands. After eight years it seems almost perverse to ask supporters for patience, but both ourselves as a Campaign Group and the Council are in agreement that it is in nobody’s interest for matters to drag on for any longer than they have to, and substantial work continues to take place in a bid to accelerate matters. We have also been delighted to read confirmation of the plans for the commercial development of British Speedway, and the increase in television viewing and streaming figures, along with the highly impressive social media activity. With the increasing number of top riders competing in the UK, it all enhances the view that British Speedway is in an improving position, and the one thing that would turbo-charge that improvement would be the return of venues which should never have been taken away from the sport in the first place. It has also been most encouraging to follow another successful season of stock car racing, a sport which would receive another boost from the return of one of its most prominent venues. We urge everyone to remain positive and thank you for all the support you have given to help get to this stage, and we will report further as soon as we can.
