There has never been a bigger likelihood of speedway returning to Brandon than there is today, it may not fit the doom monger narrative but maybe give credit to those who haven’t rolled over and given up. Nobody is saying anything about a multi million restoration, it would be a basic version initially and a lot of the old buildings may have to go. But can speedway get back there, absolutely it can, let’s see… 👀6 points

The end of the year will come and go and there will be nothing announced. He means well (I think) and fair play he's kept Brum going, but the reason that people don't go and watch Speedway in Brum has nothing to do with the word "Speedway" being omitted from the fans replica team shirts. His bit about the motorway service station and people not knowing what he was wearing was comical..... Its because year in year out he builds a crap team. Its poor management, it's the same in any business. No doubt, he runs a successful business, a world he understands, but when you listen to him, its clear he knows very little about running a Speedway Team. A little bit like when we had Mick Horton. If the team was winning, or at least has a semi decent chance of winning at home, more people would go. And in a city the size of Birmingham, there are plenty of other things to go and spend your money on. I appreciate its difficult though as Brum are always left with the riders no one else wants, and as a result all ride out of position. EDIT: You compare Tolley with Peter Facenna later on in the Podcast, which was a great listen, and they are worlds apart. A person who clearly knows what he is doing and has the right team surrounding him.5 points

All the cup competitions should have designated dates like the football. Year after year we have the same situation with cup fixtures.3 points

Probably not. BUT the longer all alternative options are closed off to them, the more likely the presence of a willing and credible purchaser will mean it becomes their least worst option2 points

Luke Killeen is struggling for whatever reason at the moment so is Boughen, Sam seems to have his mojo back . At the moment Sam Hagon is better.2 points

Harris and Ellis the reserves for BV, then. I'm sure any experience Harris picks up in his 104th GP appearance will stand him in good stead for 2026.2 points

If it wasn't so sad it was quite comical listening to his interview, the shirts, that he's responsible for, not having the word Speedway written on them! His head completely in the clouds regarding the Alexander stadium! £6,000 rent per meeting, meaning tickets for his 600 crowd would have to start at £100 before you even get to thinking about paying riders, cloud cuckoo land, why even mention it as a possibility, he may as well have gone to Villa Park! A fool and his money are easily parted, he obviously knows how to make and sell badges, but like you say running a Speedway promotion not so much, he needed better people around him I think, and now he's talking about inflicting the same process on another club, it beggars belief!2 points

I always felt he has under achieved in his career thus far - despite the obvious bit of leicester winning being a bit of a blow for the Witches - its good to see both him and Rowe having good seasons.1 point

I am sure that Doyle and Thompson will be pleased to see you gloating about their injuries and inability to continue their excellent form so far this season. What type of speedway fan takes pleasure out of riders being injured.1 point

Seem to remember that Machin may have been a promoter at Sheffield, when the Bates family first started there. Quite sure he was also a promoter at Leicester at some point.1 point

Found it an entertaining meeting to watch the scoreline helped but was some close races I’ve seen way worse meetings at Ipswich, Leicester on BSN. Picko as per bringing plenty of excitement. Feel for Oxford thought they gave it a real go, Kildemand at reserve is useful and Tungate and Riss rode well. Janowski is defo trying but just not making the gate. Jack Holder very good finish to the meeting showed his class in heat 15 and super heat to hang about for Picko. Kerr had an absolute mare in heat 9 getting passed on last bend. Rowe and Flint deserve huge credit they have been solid all season can see their confidence growing every meeting1 point

I'm pleased with the reserve choices. Always better to go with ability / who performed best in qualifiers etc. Nothing against Sam Hagon, but if he couldn't qualify for the British final, how can he expect to compete against GP riders. When the youngsters are good enough they'll get their chances, till then, that's what the SGP2 is for, the next batch of future stars.1 point

Neither Glasgow or Redcar have a fixture on Friday July 11th and the following Friday 18th Redcar are due at Glasgow in the league, maybe change that to BSN trophy?1 point
-
Sorry but that's unlikely as Zischke who is actually riding in the SGP2 meeting is turning out for Workington at Edinburgh tomorrow night. We really need a fixtures secretary to set dates and not let teams defer because of injury etc.1 point

Absolutely 👍🏻 As a Bees fan at the time of their closure we had to put up with a lot of BS from the promoter. Once he was off the scene the SCS team have done an excellent job in getting to the point we are at today. We're now being given the impression, with the language being used, that a return of Speedway to Brandon is almost imminent. Until there's reports that BE are considering selling the site I will keep my yellow and black 🟡⚫️ bunting in the shed.1 point

I was answering MB723's post in which he referred to dates for 2024 so it was 2023 that I was citing.1 point

The previous year the finals were run in July. Deferring the semis and the finals like last year could well be stacking up problems and duplication. Poole, Oxford, Redcar and Glasgow are the BSN semifinalists and are all drawn in separate KO Cup quarter finals so there's a more than fair chance they'll be the cup semifinalists too. Indeed Redcar have already won through . These four may well be the playoff four. Talk about deja vu all over again! We really need these finals spread out n different months!1 point

I’d imagine come next year Cairns will be favourite for U21 title, despite only being 16, that says it all. Finalist at 15 is a fantastic achievement.1 point

I could be wrong but didn't Neil Machin join somebody as promoter somewhere to kind of guide them in their first years of promotion and offer advice etc. Before standing back? I'm pretty sure he did, can't remember where though, it may even have been at Leicester or Sheffield when the Bates took over. That's what Tolley needed imo.1 point

He'll have to eat a few more pies to model himself anywhere near Dan McCormack! 😀 At least we found out one fact from this interview? MJJ was only signed till MAY(initially)! So, season ticket holders were conned yet again!1 point

Rob Lyon said on the British Speedway podcast, that the trouble with his teams make up is that it's difficult to cover for R/R... I would have thought that having a team full of 6 and 7 pointers, it's the ideal team make up to cover for R/R as you've not got 1 or 2 big guns and then nothing after that. The reason they lost against Sheffield was partly due to a poor performance from your number 1 and a freak score from Lewis Kerr.1 point
