Don't see how you can force anyone to move up imo, unless the others are willing to pay for any losses that club has. Riders wages seem to be the biggest issue here. Sure i heard somewhere that Chris Harris would be on double what he is on in the championship. So no wonder why Glasgow don't want to move up! Just because their owners have a lot of money doesn't mean they want to lose some of it on a league that looks like it is crumbling. If they need a championship team to move up then they need to compromise on some of the deal breakers, if that is even possible.6 points

If the Panthers run, I wouldn't be surprised to see Laguta back in British Speedway. He really enjoyed his time at Peterborough.5 points

Say they go for another CHAMP Club instead of Poole while Osborne has them lined-up. That'll be the defintion of killing two birds with one stone. Having said that... My gut feeling as of this moment is that BSPL Chairman Rob Godfrey will end up taking one for the Sport but he'll keep Pickering to build his PREM team around.4 points

But it’s blindingly obvious the premier league is unsustainable in it”s current guise so why force someone to go up if it can mean the end of a track. You only have to look at Oxford and see the damaged done by being in the top flight and then you here about losses made at other tracks and it’s bloody scary. British speedway needs to cut it’s cloth and run at a level that is sustainable and if it means the top boys don’t return and even some of the lesser riders go then so be it.4 points

I find it unbelievable that a professional sport isn’t ran in a professional manner with promotion and relegation etc. Every meeting will then more or less have something riding on it . That’s got to provide better racing. Which may attract bigger crowds. None of these going through the motions meetings. And none of these so called top level clubs and we know who they are , dictating to the sport, when where and what level they’re only prepared to race at . I keep seeing people saying that no rider is bigger than the sport. Well I reckon certain clubs definitely think they are , dictating the terms. It’s a joke. And any sport allowing this certainly looks like one from outsiders as well as those that have an interest in it.4 points

Well a number of people on here have mentioned about what is the point of clubs attending this event. From our perspective, our stall was very popular and was crowded pretty much all day. I practically lost my voice by the end of the day. A very large number of supporters from all over the country joined our monthly Forever Fund lottery, which has been set up not only to help with legal costs (contributed just under a third so far) but to assist us in the future. From that view it was massively worthwhile. If anyone on here wants to join, it costs £10 a month with cash prizes up for winning every month. Each month people receive a newsletter with results and details of companies nationwide offering discounts on products and services. Sarah Miles runs the fund, for more information about the fund or to join email panthersforeverfund@gmail.com4 points

I don't think it's a question of what team or teams will go up,more likely how many teams are going to go down to the championship!3 points
-
The flip side of that particular coin is the Premiership team facing relegation would not go down because of a combination of changing racenights and the risk of smaller attendances!. Its been tried before and simply does not work satisfactorily.3 points

So, what measures are available to be used, to "force" or incentivise a Championship club to walk the plank? I cant currently bring any to mind? What i can see happening, is for the existing Championship clubs to break away from the BSPL and form their own organisation. Maybe this is already happening3 points

Sadly, Birmingham would still have closed due to their stadium being demolished. As for Oxford, running three teams is also a drain on fans resources and a drain on the wallet to attend all meetings and so had to choose who to watch. although there must be some truth that a stronger first team could have seen improved attendances for the Spiers, its more than likely the fans chose to attend more meetings of the Cheetah's because they had the better home record of winning matches.3 points

Can't see any being daft enough to be honest. Long history of teams stepping up not being allowed to build a competitive team. Poole and Oxford are the only clubs with a history of rivalries in the top division. Oxford probably had enough of being the Premiership punching bag. Poole have knocked it back due to race night and other issues. Any Northern team (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick, Workington) would lose any sort of local derby, and all are weekend tracks for good reason. I cannot see Redcar or Plymouth going up and staying in business. Scunthorpe would at least have some local matches against BV and Sheffield but I cannot see it without massive outside investment to cover huge losses. I don't want to see the Premiership fail, but I can't see a Championship promoter sacrificing their club to save it.3 points

What a load of cr@p several people from worky made a 400+ miles round trip at their own expense ,to spread the name of worky to all who attended and by all accounts sold a bit of merchandise to help the club funds2 points

BSPL may as well ask Coventry and Swindon as well, they are in same boat as Peterborough, all 3 haven't got a track at the moment2 points

This might not go down well with some people on here , but why dont the Championship Promoters get on with the job of building there teams to a 40 point limit, 2 home and away against each team in the Championship, Have the draw for the KO CUP,BSN Trophy Sections. name their Teams and leave the Prem to sort out their own bloody mess, that will take until Jan to resolve. Glasgow and Poole will NOT be moving up,which would be financial disaster for both, and no other Championship side would survive.2 points
-
Impossible to have promotion and relegation as NONE of the clubs would find it to their liking under anything close to the current set up How could you run a top league with a points limit for example and have relegation - its completely counter intuitive No team would want to win the 2nd tier and be forced to change race night and double their rider costs The scenario you set out could only work if there was sufficient financial incentive to want to achieve top flight status - and if that was the case we wouldn't be in this position anyway as there would be a queue asking to join!!2 points

That’s it in nutshell too many meaningless meetings top4 was more or less set in stone from March then it was who’s best of the bottom 3 - half the meetings other than pride there was nothing on them2 points
-
Exactly one of the reasons why no one will move up. A team of riders who other teams don't want. Great plan 🙄🙃 You'd think some of the Prem promoters would use their brain a bit more if they are desperate for a sixth team.2 points

They were filming for King Cinder when Teesside Tigers visited Hoddesdon. 22nd May 1977. During the 2nd half. Us Tigers fans. Were asked by the Production Company. To wave "Barton Barons" banners. Happy memories.2 points

I remember it the first time around when I was a kid. It was filmed at Rye House (and says so in the end credits). I believe Bob Garrad did the riding for Peter Duncan, and I think Kelvin Mullarkey, Hugh Saunders and Karl Fiala are mentioned at some point (Either introduced by Len Silver or announced as a race winner).2 points

Actually, BSPL is a limited company and one of the directors is Danny Ford, along with Damien Bates, who wants out, the other 2 directors are Chris Louis and Rob Godfrey, so 2 PL, 2 CL.1 point

As far as I am aware, the BSPL consists of a number of individual business's. If this is so, they cannot "force" Poole to abandon the Championship for a very uncertain future in the Premier League. Try to force that and I would guess that the Lawyers would be called in and Poole would take it to Court. I would if I was them, I would and I believe they would win. Oh well, that's all right then!!! You are 'all right Jack'!!! There is far too many of your Premier League people trying to close Championship Tracks for my liking. Wanting to sacrifice them on the altar of the Premier League. Not on I'm afraid. I am not being nasty, but your attitude is, prop up the Premier League at all costs and stuff the other Championship Clubs in this Country. Your League has caused all of the problems, and you expect to be bailed out as a right. That is a terrible attitude. I lost my Track fifty two years ago, so I know how it feels. I think you should wait and see what happens at the (rather late) AGM. On this particular matter you have got to me, I feel you are being very selfish and and entitled. Your position on this is dead wrong.1 point

Obviously none of us know the financial details of TV deals and/or sponsorship only what we pick up from different sources. Watling JCB have been on board at Leicester since our CL days so I doubt their financial input is anywhere near what the TV deal delivered. I agree that Doyley will more likely than not be back at Ippo next year (if Ippo run) but he is on the down slope of his career, is married to an English woman with a young kid and lives in Norwich, so that probably works for him to earn a bit of extra bunce on a Thursday night. He is very much the exception to the rule of the GP/Ekstraliga contingent though.1 point

That's what Carl Johnson said on the podcast. But he also said Peterborough are not in a position to join the league yet, as we don't have a track.1 point

Just seen Thomsen wont be at Poole in 2026 due to Danish commitments... A perfect pick up for Plymouth at 21 point

100% agree - there is no way to force any club to move up even if it would potentially be in the best interests of the sport There is simply no way you can expect clubs like Poole and Glasgow to take on the financial risk of a switch even though both would be ideal top flight set ups The sad fact is that there is simply not the required financial incentive to be at the top level and unless/until that changes the current struggle will continue1 point

Mervyn only put that plan together because of the intransigent attitude of the British League promoters,at the time. He admitted later that he shouldn't have done it and should have kept the old National League as it was.1 point

This is undoubtedly true, but then the *sport will never be taken that seriously, which is where we are now. Low attendances tell the governing body that by and large very few people are into Speedway, so seek meaningful change or call it a day.1 point

Yip, TTT is insisting that the promoters that ruined the Premiership will be given absolute free reign to ruin a (pretty much) Championship level one big league...if that was too be the way the sport goes. More chance of the Championship promoters not allowing them in the league than letting them destroy what's left of the sport. Those 5 don't want someone to compete with, they just want a team they can all hammer repeatedly to prop up their failing Premiership. I'm just going to ignore TTT from now on. I've not got the crayons to explain it in a way that they will understand.1 point

Believe in what you want to believe. At the end of the day, Reality will just hit even harder. Bomber will be out of pocket by Thousands of Pounds and he'll need to find a way to recoup that Money. Example. Buster to Bomber......I need a No.1, Here's an extra £1,500 a Night which would translate into £39,000 over 26 League Fixtures (1 H & 1 A in a 14 Team League) Earnings would see a further increase once you add on Cup Fixtures. You really think he's going to say no when he's got a Family and a Retirement plan to think about?1 point

There was a classic example this season of how things need to change and it answers a couple of points too Oxford run a team in the championship with no tv money from TNT and break even, they run a team in the premier with TNT money and owe £1000s, same track one team is sustainable one isn’t, the one with the lesser riders got marginally bettter support, dispelling the point about the star riders needed, the lessen is all there to see, will the bspl see it ? No they have superheats and points limits to discuss1 point

Doesn't matter. With Cammy as team manager you could name Bewley, Kurtz, Lindgren, Zmarzlik, Doyle, Kubera and Holder and they will win as much silverware as the Tigers won last year - none.1 point

Many people on here and elsewhere don't seem to have a clue about the costs of hiring a stadium like Cardiff for 10 days or so - and thats before the cost of laying a track and then dismantling it afterwards. The stadium would take into account any lost revenue (bars, hospitality, franchises etc) on the 'dead' days, aside from the days that speedway actually takes place in front of a (mostly) paying audience!1 point

At the end of the day, whatever options are decided, they have to be affordable for all clubs - and fans! Unfortunately not all Clubs have the same cost base - some own their own Stadia, some rent from supportive landlords, some rent from reluctant stadium owners. Some (a few) have supportive corporate main sponsors, many do not! Clubs must be allowed to operate at their preferred level (financially) otherwise more Clubs will be lost. To be 'forced' into one league or another just to suit the few would be wrong imo. If every club operated from the same costbase it might be different, but they don't and it isn't!1 point
-
Why do you think? Because clubs are for sale, clubs are closing for housing, crowds are down, riders haven’t been paid, the TV deal has gone, whilst promotors want to continue with the same structure, that quite clearly isn’t working and isn’t sustainable and that’s just the Premiership.1 point
-
Or maybe. Needing to get all of the ducks in a row. 2 preferably 3 more teams required so a TV deal can be completed in line with requirements of new significant sponsor which enables longer term planning to have some traction. Without the first the other two can’t happen and resistance from championship clubs who are “alright thanks” not playing ball unless they unlike other Premier clubs, receive (unreasonable) upfront guarantees. Time required for negotiations?1 point

Might have attracted insomniacs who then went to a meeting and solved their issue by watching tractors spending more time on the track than the bikes.1 point
