  1. We must surely be approaching the point where they say it's too late to get this done. This waiting isn't fair on the riders, it's not fair on the other clubs who have declared they're running but can't get properly organised, and most importantly it's not fair to the supporters who can't be blamed if they decide that after the farce of this winter it's finally the time to walk away from the sport. I hope Northampton do start. The circumstances in which it happens isn't ideal but it would still be exciting to see a new track enter, and wouldn't it be great if we were all here in 7-8 months time looking back at a successful first season. But you can't keep everyone waiting around forever, there has to be a deadline.

  3. I hate the averages system and also the idea of not having riders as assets. It kills the motivation to develop young riders as if their average gets to high, you have to lose them for nothing or lose another top rider. It also doesn't really keep teams that fair either

  4. They stopped this test 2 years ago, now they hold out a fifty pound note and which hand snatches it first is the predominant hand.

  6. Are any of fhe riders mentioned left handed? I think there may be a sub reg which allows a further reduction in averages of left handed riders... Just as long as they can a) prove they are left handed and b) prove it by the end of February.. All that needs to happen is for a BSP Official to hand the rider a pen and see how he writes with it... Mickey Mouse has just looked at his BSP watch that he got for Christmas off Minnie, and confirmed officially that today is the 26th of February, so still time left...

  7. Problem is the play offs are at the wrong time for mainstream broadcasters as in September and October the Premier League and EFL is in full flow and the European Champions, Europa and Conference League has just started so they have plenty of content. I did make the suggestion back in December when it became clear they had no Premiership broadcast to BSPL that maybe they would be better to look at running a short separate SuperLiga series of matches just one Home and Away . This needs to take place late May until end of July then Sky and Others would be interested in broadcasting it Maybe also may attract more GP stars for a short period season. This needs to be a more modern format with DJs, lights , smoke , Cheerleaders etc However this suggestion was turned down as promotions didn’t want to clash with Euro football games as thought attendance will be down but they will whichever way and also had concerns that fans would not attend the Premiership fixtures at start and end of season instead just going for SuperLiga matches . This is exactly how Cricket has moved forward clubs make big money and attendance for 20-20 and the Hundred during peak summer which purest supporters don’t like but they can get their traditional cricket early and later on the year

  10. Definitely that no one has heard of it. I think the only people that knew about it when I was at school was the people I forced to come along with me, most of whom never went again

  11. Stifles aspiration, and ambition, and is clearly open to manipulation.. If must be quite annoying for a rider to miss out on a team place by a few decimal points, knowing one of his team mates last year let him finish in front of him, which, ultimately put his average "too high"... Even more so if a "bonus point king" gets the place he could have had!!!

  12. So.... Basically, promoters thought that an authentic and relevant league, that had some resonance, and ran during the warmer months, would negatively impact their unauthentic, and largely irrelevant league, with minimal, if any, resonance, (that they would still run), using the colder months too?... In summary... "This product would deliver what many fans want, and would engage them to attend, but then they wouldn't turn up to watch the usual contrived stuff we cobble together each season".. They probably wouldn't be wrong would they?

  19. Today’s Speedway Star from Jenkins.. ”There was a lot of talk of me being with Ipswich again, and I spoke briefly with their new promotion, but it seems a change in the rules has put a stop to me having a low enough average for them to fit me in” Thats interesting for a couple of reasons. Firstly, if the six is who I was reliably told (Brennan, Lawson, King, Musielak, Nicholls, Edwards RS), then Jenkins DOES still fit as the seventh rider on his GSA with normal British reduction. I assume the rule he’s hinting at is the 25% rule 🤷🏼‍♂️ if that’s what he means, then it hasn’t been a change in the rules at all as someone pulled up that rule about him not getting that reduction twice a few weeks ago. Maybe he’s referring to something else? Anyway, bottom line is he’s not in the team. Secondly, that reaffirms that Louis has had nothing to do with building this team and the new owners already have their feet under the table. Edit: Unless the average used for Nicholls is his Premiership average of 5.55, and not his converted Championship average of 5.39? In which case would leave 4.44, with Jenkins on 4.49. Could also explain the rumoured no go for Thorssell even on 4.5 as he wouldn’t fit either.. I’m not sure that’s the case though. Pretty sure the average used would be a Championship converted average, and not an established Premiership one. The most current average is used and Scott’s Premiership average is from 2024. Jeppesen on the other hand, has a current 2025 average in both Premiership and Championship, so I’m guessing they’d use his current Premiership average? Which would mean he just about fits. If it’s his converted Championship average then he’s way over and wouldn’t fit either.

  24. I’d add lemon to the list. They couldn’t organise a village fete successfully. Absolute shambles. instead of aspiring to the professional levels of Poole Glasgow Ipswich Leicester and Redcar we dumb down to the likes of Godfrey and Chapman who just threaten to pack up if they don’t get their own way.

  25. Whilst a new club will be welcome the constant procrastination with both Ipswich and Northampton sets a dangerous precedent for seasons to come. Historically the AGM declaration to run has been the cut off point with the odd exception allowed until the fixtures are compiled then that's it. Landlord/Tennant disputes/agreements have been the usual cause. This is an unprecedented shot in the foot head!

  26. Should the Directors of BSP Ltd (apart from Lemon and Lyon) resign? If there were enough shareholders, there'd be open revolt going on by now, an EGM would have been called and they'd have been kicked out. Stewart Dickson apparently called for an EGM back in something like June last year because he could see problems looming up, but apparently his calls were ignored. Since then C.Louis has of course walked away but others remain in position

  29. 2025 Regs: 10.2.1 Established MA's "... At the end of each season the BSP LTD will produce a listing of all riders who have competed in British Speedway during that season and following approval and/or amendment at their AGM. The MA’s, excluding bonus points but including other allowances will be the riders MA for the following season. These MA’s will remain affective for team building, team positioning, facilities, until new MA’s become effective. The most recently established MA will be used. If a rider has an established MA in both the Premiership and Championship Leagues, established in the same season, that leagues MA will apply to that league. To be effective 7 days after the last qualifying meeting. Any rider returning to British Speedway on an established MA, achieved prior to 2023 will establish an updated MA after completing 6 applicable meetings. ..." The last paragraph implies that if a rider had an Established MA from 2023 or 2024, it would count. Assuming the 2026 Regs are updated by a year, then Established MAs from 2025 or 2024 would count ... thus Nicholls could be on his 2024 Prem MA ... NB: the grammar and speeling in the Regs is appalling.

  31. You will find in most places that still have speedway a lot of people don't know it exists, couple of recent examples, me and a mate went into a pub 1 mile away from belle Vue, near the Holiday inn express, person behind the bar your not local, us, have come down for the speedway just up the road, bar person, I thought that closed down years ago, us, yes 2 venues closed but still going at the national speedway arena, bar person did not know speedway still going. Another example was helping out on a stall at an Xmas event in Workington couple of years ago, giving stickers etc away, man with family said he did not know a new facility had been built for speedway. And the comets lot are quite good trying to promote the sport.

  35. Ahhh, but.... You need to use such a highly scientific system like rider averages because it means that every season, every team, starts the season almost completely equal... Well. Apart obviously from those teams who get named on here, before a wheel is turned, as a shoe in for the play offs, or, alternatively, correclty named as spending the season as complete and utter cannon fodder... It works so well doesn't it?..

  37. From the Kings Lynn NL section but..... If a rider in the championship has missed a season or more in the NDL, but has had a NDL average within the last 5 seasons, then they go back into the NDL on their last NDL average, UNLESS when their current Championship average is doubled and it’s higher than that last NDL average, within the last 5 seasons, then that rider will return to the NDL on the higher of the 2 averages. Jake Mulford’s current championship average when doubled is lower than his last NDL average in 2024, hence why Jake is on an 8.67 average in the NDL in 2026. Would make sense if similar rules were applied between CL & PL but we all know that sense and speedway rarely go hand in hand

  40. you been to a football match recently? I think BSN are great and offer a really decent product - i'd say (with a few caveats) they are better than the TNT product of last season. One of the reasons I like to use BSN is I have no club to properly follow as mine closed and I like to watch say Belle Vue v Leicester as a neutral. That said Leicesters streaming service is always very good also (I feel)!

  47. A sport, in the UK, simply set up for a few dozen riders so they can earn money... And set up so some people, with enough money, can have an expensive hobby which they love being a central part of... The fans being invited along to help subsidise the costs, and keep them within reason for the person whose hobby it is... UK Speedway is no more than this.. The BSN package looks excellent value for money for "generic fans", who just enjoy watching Speedway without bothering too much who wins and who doesn't.. Hope they have a good season with plenty of subscribers.
