I do think itās me not paying attention, I rarely go on the BSPL website, I am a massive podcast listener because Iām always on the road and they pass the time quickly but strangely I very rarely listen to speedway podcasts and thatās made all the more strange by the fact that I was on one but I just donāt find them interesting2 points

Can only assume itās me not paying attention but I never even heard of the British speedway podcast2 points

No media day this year and now they are ditching the British speedway podcast as well as a cost cutting measure. Apparently due to no tv deal. This is a great shame as it was a very good professional podcast It seems utter madness to not have either to promote our sport. We now have Northampton which is a fantastic boost for the sport but thatās a bigger secret than the Masons. What on earth do those supposedly running the premiership thinking of. We should be looking up to the levels of Poole and Glasgow rather than dumbing down to the levels of Scunthorpe two of the best things to emerge in the last ten years are BSN and Team GB Which shows what can be achieved with competent forward thinking management.2 points

Oh, you cynic... But. With your inside knowledge, and my years of following the sport, I can only assume you are very much probably right!.... On a separate note, Mark Lemon in his Speedway Star interview, mentioned how important to the "integrity and credibility of the sport" this sixth team is... Reading further, it apeears that there are several (all, who knows?), other BSP promoters actually running the show, with riders already spoken with, and team planning in an advanced stage... So... This means that promoters of teams in the same top tier competitions are compiling the Northampton team... The very same team that their own team(s), (already announced) will race against.. "Integrity and Credibility"??? Imagine a professional sport being ran that way, with spectators then being expected to take it seriously...?2 points

Charles wasnāt in the Northampton line up but as others have said Iversen was definitely in the plans so theyāll need to find a replacement now, Lidsey and Klindt have signed contracts as far as I know.1 point

Most air fence injuries are caused by the bike going in before the rider and lifting the fence off the floor and then the rider going under it.1 point

That's because all involved it the Redcar track preparation are completely clueless and have been since Johnny swales resigned.1 point

I would imagine they are waiting for all rider contracts to be signed before they announce, that would be my guess.1 point

Indeed, they could be be on the phone a fair bit in the next few days/weeks. It's certainly not an ideal start for the newcomers...1 point

Well, if Charles Wright was pencilled in for Northampton, they will now have to find a replacement...1 point

Do they get a facility for him, with him not having ridden in an official match? Not sure of the rules on this.1 point

Not one called Rushden either, as far as i know, but posters keep mentioning them.1 point

I think weāve finally cracked the mystery of the BSPLās undercover PR man ā step forward, Steve Irving! In nearly half a century following speedway, Iāve never seen such singleāminded loyalty to the party line. For Steve, every corner of the speedway garden is blooming, and every promoter walks on water. Itās almost touching ā almost. Maybe pop an AirTag on that selfārespect, Steve, in case it wanders off again. Now, if he took a moment away from cheerleading, he might notice whatās happening elsewhere in motorsport media. Crash.net and others are reporting that Richard Coleman is āfully focusedā on his MotoGP duties as Team Principal with Tech3 ā and thatās no small commitment. Remember, 2026 is the final season for 1000cc engines before MotoGP moves to 850cc in 2027, which means nonāstop testing and development is already underway. Yet, somehow, Coleman also claims to be giving his total focus to MotoGP, the Speedway GP series, and Ipswich Speedway. Quite the feat! Perhaps heās mastered quantum cloning. Realistically, though, Ipswich fans should expect Andrew Chisholm to be the one holding the reins at Foxhall this year. Steve might want to grab a selfie with his idol early ā Coleman sightings in Suffolk could be rarer than unicorns by midāseason. And before anyone complains that this reads like an essay ā guilty as charged. I must have missed the point in time when education and critical thinking became surplus to requirements. Maybe thatās why āHawk127ā, who is seemingly bereft of a dictionary, thinks "woke" is an insult. It just means being a decent person ā who wouldnāt want that? Anyway, Iāll leave the PR spin to Steve and the BSPL. Some of us still prefer our motorsport journalism with a touch of reality, not roseātinted propaganda.1 point

Well you know the old saying? "If you're bored of Northampton, then you're bored of life". (or it could be London, i forget which)1 point

Northampton wont attract new fans. Its in a field in the middle of nowhere, and the facilities are extremely basic. An uncovered stand, or grass banking, looking thru a big mesh fence. This wont appeal to newcomers midweek, when they can sit at home instead, glued to their devices! 12 old duffers from Peterborough with their home made knitted bobble hats, and a 30 year old programme board, wont make the place a success1 point
-
Totally agree. If it is entertainment and you want to attract a new generation of punters, then you do not need those riders who are costing clubs a fortune. No new punter or family will have heard of any of the top names, so as long as the racing is competitive and you have match raceās featuring different age groups to entice youngsters as well as a meaningful match or individual meeting then that is all you can ask for. No one seems to want to try a two wheeled speed event including for example flat track riders etc. as well as speedway. As it is now you have the same old same old format which with all the ridiculous rules and doubling up etc you will never convince the media that it is credible and without the media the punters are not going to pick up on it. Give them something different (proven by increased numbers who attend the play offs when you something to go for but not the qualifying matches) and just maybe they could start on that very long journey of attracting new fans, sponsors and possibly media attention on a national scale.1 point

the best kept sporting secret ever . opening night massive crowd of people who support other teams . 3 weeks in and tiny crowd ..they should be marketing it on social media , give the team a name at least theres plenty of Speedway fans internet savvy enough to create a razamatazz , Speedway has far too long relied on its dwindling fanbase to advertise it , and this is a classic exmaple . failing to prepare is preparing to fail !!!1 point

Must be draught beer available this year then if theyre abolishing cans and bottles, that'll be nice1 point

I donāt understand all the cynicism here. GB was a joke of a team year after year but Painter, Blackwell, Allen, Stead, Vatcher plus the professional team around them involving fitness, psychology, physiotherapy and media profile have produced some world beating performances. No more pizzas and beer but pride in the job instead. And top class sponsors. Itās not been just a one day job either with qualifiers and finals in the same week resulting in the squad being together for 4 or 5 days. GB has team spirit, team uniforms and, allowing for 2025 being a hiccup, great results since it changed to the current management team. Olly and Simon have worked well together but they will acknowledge they are only one part of the whole set up. When domestic speedway in UK, especially the way the top league is going, is a clown show, and is working its way down and down, the national team has shown that we still have good people with great skills in this country. And Simon has been one of the key players. We should be thanking him and not making smart ass comments about his wish to devote more time to his family, his job and Sheffield speedway.1 point
