Back on the 30th of January, I posted on here about making the Eddie Wright Raceway my regular track after moving to Lincolnshire. I said back then “Regardless of where we finish in the league, I’m massively looking forward to the new season. Let’s get behind the lads and hopefully spring a surprise or two” after being written off. Well, look where we are tonight. Whatever happens at Wimborne Road in the second leg, Scunthorpe have had an absolutely brilliant season. Taking an eight-point lead into the Grand Final decider against a side like Poole is massive credit to every single rider, promoter, and volunteer at the club. Do I think they will pull it off tonight? Hand on heart, probably not. We all know how tough Wimborne Road is and how well Poole are around their own patch. In fact, it’s one of the biggest frustrations in British speedway for me right now: every year it feels like a foregone conclusion. You can pretty much pencil in the league winners before a wheel turns, and the entire championship boils down to “who earns the right to get beaten over two legs by Poole.” If the Pirates overturn the deficit and lift the trophy again, nobody will be shocked. But that shouldn't take an ounce of shine off what Scunny have achieved. I’ll be following tonight with everything crossed and if they do it, it’ll be one of the best nights in the club's history. But even if Poole do what Poole usually do, the Scorpions will still be winners having proved pretty much everyone wrong.8 points

Disagree wholeheartedly Dean. Failure to apply the rules as intended is cheating. Compromising the integrity of the sport does not render it “the winner”.5 points

To all the fools on here saying "Give him another chance", like he hasn't had more than enough already and clearly still hasn't leant his lesson... If it was your grandparent/relation that he had held at knifepoint in their own home, demanding bank cards to then wipe out their bank account...you wouldn't be defending him then would you?!!! It shouldn't matter whether it was your own relation or somebody else's, he is a vile scumbag who carried out the above crime...and still has a flagrant lack of respect for the law given his recent recalls to prison for breaching his licence. If he really wanted to change, that wouldn't have happened would it? His interview in Speedway Star earlier this year summed him up...crocodile tears and full of bullsh*t with no remorse, him lying about what he did the best example of that. If you want to pay his wages, go ahead...but when he lets your team down during the season because he is inside again, you asked for it. No whinging or whining...just wait for when he is released again and you can give him 'another chance'.5 points

What a horrible and sad way to end an incredibly exciting climax to the league. Scunthorpe were clearly robbed by another joke of a decision by a referee. Paul Carrington bottled it and wanted to leave Wimborne Road in one piece. Unfortunately all it does is bring the sport into disrepute and British speedway loses even more integrity which it can ill afford to do at present. This is just another of a long line of absolute clangers being pulled by referees who either need more training or more help. It’s also hot on the heels of Christina Turnbull’s decision to let a heat go ahead last night when the riders were clearly in the wrong gates. It just looks amateurish. Scunthorpe are champions in my eyes. They put up a fabulous rearguard action to take it to the Super Heat led by Picko who has been on another level this season. For me, they DID pull off the impossible.4 points

With hindsight also, a bit disappointed that BSN didn’t say it how it is. They showed the replays, which are clear, yet didn’t seem to have the guts (rather like the referee it would seem) to call it as it was.4 points

He was clearly over, what the hell is Rory Schlein talking about?!?4 points

Between Palm Toft in heat 14 and Pickering in 15, they’ve saved this meeting. No matter what happens in the super heat, what Scunthorpe have achieved tonight, last week, in the semi-final against us and all season, is utterly remarkable. The Scorpions should be proud, regardless of what happens.4 points

This is genuinely the worst track I have ever seen in speedway bar none. diabolical.4 points

Whats schlein talking about regards kerr. No way is jenkins at fault4 points

Smart move from Scunthorpe not to accept their medals, if they had then some would no doubt have seen it as an acceptance of the result.3 points

Didn't know this meeting was on until I came on here.. Saw the result and to be honest I was a bit surprised to see that Sheffield gave Kings Lynn permission to use Max Fricke.. 😁3 points

in my opinion foreign riders shouldnt be able to be reserve especially in the championship3 points

"Give the bloke a chance" you say, he has been getting chances since he was a teenager & he will be 33 shortly. How many more chances do you think he might need before he sorts his life out?3 points

Rumour??? You effing prick Clear as day and proved!!! Stay in the lower league you clown2 points

Well 40 minutes from the meeting end no pilots fans have been on celebrating, maybe they are embarrassed by calling themselves champions by cheating in both legs of the final 😜2 points

Congratulations to Poole on being the 7th best team in the country 👏2 points

They should. There is clear video evidence of not only Cook crossing the white line tonight, but Cairns warming his tyres at Scunthorpe last week. Had he been excluded - as was the absolute correct decision - the tonight doesn’t go to a super heat; Scunthorpe are champions after fifteen heats. Only in speedway, could the underdog be cheated.2 points
-
Congratulations Poole but in reality the ref knows he crossed the line but was never going to change his mind knowing what the outcome would be but either way a fantastic nights entertainment, lots of jeopardy and talking points and speedway was the real winner2 points

If that result stands it is unbelievable to me, will really undermine my faith in the integrity of the sport. I can see it going legal unfortunately.2 points

Track prepared so you can’t overtake feel sorry for picko there so much quicker than Lawson but only 1 line2 points

Isn't the dirt supposed to go back on the racing line 🤔 not being bladed off2 points

As their best reserve I think you are tripping if you say absolutely no loss! He may well not have scored many, but any rider is better than no rider at all (especially at reserve). It looks like Ingram’s seven rides will result in no wins over opponents. Stranger things have happened of course, and it looks like three or four of the Scorpions are in good form…2 points

He rode in the Latvian Championship in Daugavpils at the weekend. https://www.lokomotive.lv/posts/3728-lvbet-latvijas-atklata-cempionata-protokols2 points

Whole meeting is pointless now. Season's over - just put all the names of riders who want to ride in it in a hat and draw out 2 teams.2 points

But isn't listed for the re-staging. I know it's just a challenge match, but if he's not coming because he can't be bothered should only be allowed a 3.00 NL rider imo2 points

I wonder if any of the Scunthorpe riders will announce they’re riding for Poole next season?2 points

Looking forward to this final. To be honest I don't see anything other than an easy win for Belle Vue. If we are to beat Belle Vue we need our 1 to 7 all be on their A Game, and recent results this does not look as though we will do this.2 points

So much talk about Cairns & Rushen, but I am thoroughly enjoying watching Harrison plod along quite nicely at only 19. Would take him back at Northampton along with Kye Thomson. They should both be the first names on the team sheet for 27. I also have noticed how much Harris enjoys the track at Northampton, and with him living up the road in Rugby, I can absolutely see him as a Fox next year.2 points

But that’s on the ref inability not the sport, the ref should face action but on the whole the internet will blow up tonight because of it and it will grab headlines1 point

both wheels clearly over on that view from behind1 point

His back wheel clearly crosses the line. What on earth is going on? How has this been allowed?1 point

Nope IRR comes into force during a meeting once a rider has to withdraw, I believe each ride taken by the injured party removes the ride that the highest averaged rider eligible at that point can take.1 point

Cannot stand this track. What an awful advert for speedway, regardless of who wins. Two crashes aside, it’s been utter dross. Scunthorpe prepared a track for racing. Why can’t Poole? The grand final and this is what’s being served.1 point

I don't know the actual points limit, but from what I've heard the Championship will be the same nine teams as 2026 - with the points limit already agreed upon. Not from a direct source though, so don't quote me!1 point

Who do you think should get the wild cards? I don't think you've ever mentioned your view on this.1 point

Hopefully with the rain the season long dust will have disappeared and maybe just maybe some dirt may appear. Come on scunny 😄1 point

just have a look at the similarities with the final of 1996. Again the rider in Green winning, who this weekend happened to be the referee...1 point

I’ll also add, taking a victory lap after winning a race. Riders, just bloody do it, it costs you naff all and you’re doing it for the people who contribute towards your wages. Take it a step further collect the team flag every time and take that on your victory lap with you.1 point
