  1. Brian Burford's 4-page story of the first Speedway Test Match is a very good read in this week's Speedway Star. Great historic pictures, too. I love my Speedway Star.💕

  2. Speedway Star has been an absolute bargain for 15yrs. See them in Tesco's & read them there & then. Took it in the cafe a few times for breakfast & then pop it back on the shelf. I do the same with newspapers too

  3. Had to manually input the code for good couple of months now in Smiths but yesterday I brought one in Smiths at Liverpool Street station and to my shock it actually scanned. ps outside of the issues of barcodes failing to scan, I still love the magazine, I would not buy it if I didn’t. i especially love the throwback features to the sport before my time 70s and earlier, great piece this week on West Ham, wish I had been alive to have visited Custom House in its hey day.

  4. Speedway is the only sport that penalise anyone who shows improvement, look what happened to Jack SMITH and Nathan Ablitt, both riders came up from N D L to reserves in the championship and both improved their averages ,and claimed places in the top five of their teams. Then after all the time and effort they put in sees them both frozen out of team places i would not be surprised if one or both decide its not worth putting all the time and money into speedway. I dont know of any other sport were improving goes against you surly something must be done to stop such ridiculous things happening to riders.

  5. This a Mildenhall 2025 potential return topic. So why not just stick to the actual subject. Stop deviating and get behind the actual potential return of a speedway track and embrace it.

  6. The Lattice House in the town centre is a good option; also Bank House or Marriotts Warehouse along the quay

  7. I cant believe "Round the Boards", "Norbold", "Haza" and "ch958." Firstly the accusation of Wimbledon is your version only and you use the platform to sink the Mildenhall project, so sad. In 1999 he and a friend relaunched Rye House without a home and from that success Rye House returned to Hoddesdon and ran for 18 years. He got closer to re-launching Norwich than anyone is 61 years He had already got Mildenhall back before and it was not him who closed it Kent Kings closed in 2022 and guess who not only reopened it, yes your nemesis Steve Ribbons, they played to crowds as big as 750 for 3rd division racing, it was so successful that Eastbourne are now running a league team at the venue. Oh and he was so bad at Iwade that a number of the staff have offered their help at Mildenhall 2025. If you all have personal issues with Mr Ribbons take it up with him DONT come on here with the intention to scuppering the ONLY hope Mildenhall have of returning to racing or prehaps you plan to reopen it yourselves?

  11. I don't think the explosion of TV channels has helped. Everything seems to have its own niche channel these days, BSN being speedway's example. Back in the day you just had 3 or 4 TV channels and if you were fortunate enough to be on one of them you were quids in. Then satellite TV came along and the whole entertainment industry was carved up into its different categories, and everybody now watches stuff in their own bubble. In the era of 3/4 channel TV if you were a "celebrity" you were a national celebrity, these days you could walk past most of the modern day "celebrities" in the street unaware as they're generally not known outside of their bubble. Add in the demise of the print media for anybody over 40 and it's really hard to get your message across without some kind of "on brand" message. Speedway with its very white, very male audience and participants will just get overlooked, having said that it does have the youth of the participants on its side that really could be exploited more. The old codgers in the crowd will not like crowds of hooded yoofs roaming the stadiums in gangs playing their awful music though 😂

  12. Maybe they are waiting for confirmation from Belle Vue of how many seats will be available...

  16. I tried two calls to Sky today and basically got nowhere. I told them I now can't get Eurosport or the sport part on the Discovery+ app, and yet I'm still asked to pay the same monthly price. All I got was lots of excuses, and one advisor even suggested I increase my package by another £15 a month! I'm amazed you got a result, as despite my sweet talking I got nowhere with them. Not sure what other no cost or low cost options I have to watch the GP's and League matches live this year? I do have BT Internet and Virgin Fibre outside my house, but I'm not sure if it would be any cheaper going with them than adding TNT Sport to my existing Sky package. I think the TNT sport is another £30 amonth, and I'm not paying that just for Speedway coverage.

  17. Havent been to mildenhall in a while but wouldn’t it be feasible to build a new track at the back of the current stadium by the motox track, not sure who owns the land but it is surrounded by fields

  18. For anyone who has Sky and found them intransigent on this, I contacted Ofcom and didn't get anywhere, so contacted trading standards who said they couldn't act, but they do feel Skys pricing is unfair and advised taking it back to Ofcom, and if enough people complain they will have to act. I have emailed them and waiting to hear back, but perhaps others might like to do the same. Power in numbers!

  19. The most despised person at Borussia Monchengladbach? The one who shouts... "Give us a B!".... The sport is tiny, with no major sponsors, an ageing white middle aged, and above demographic fanbase, hardly any competitor's, and an operating model ran with a credibility rating akin to pro Wrestling... A credibility rating which reduces any silverware success to fhe level of "Sunday League" sports who have a similar "lets bring in ringers" philosophy... Eg Thank you NKI for playing a significant role in Belle Vue becoming Champions, but Boool!!! For Bomber for helping Ipswich beat the Aces in the semi the year before... Before he then helped Sheffield beat Ipswich in the final.. . All played out in a wide ranging level of stadium standards and comfort, often miles away from what a 1995 audience, let alone a 2025 audience, would expect... Good luck with selling that product... Cannot see anyone pitching it on Dragons Den..

  20. I often by the star in Tescos - this happened to me - not bought it for a while for various reasons, but it wouldn't scan for me - easily fixed by manually entering the barcode number etc. I imagine this is a tesco issue however!

  21. Why not give feedback direct to Speedway Star rather than stirring up here.

  22. Maybe they are having to re-shuffle the line-up. I hear that Becker's average has gone up by 25% because of Trump's tariffs.

  24. Even if you didn't usually buy a programme to save a few quid, a free programme won't be turned down. Good deal imo
