Absolutely, to prove the point I just checked an old 1983 Leicester programme, our last league matches of the season was 23rd October v Belle Vue and there were still another BL fixture on 25th October between Halifax and Cradley.

Perhaps the novelty factor would lead to more interest then? I know that's probably naive but I'm trying to be hopeful...!

There was, but a sprinkle wouldn't have hurt midway through I think. It got so bad the last couple of heats I gave up trying to write in my program, my pen just wouldn't write. I noticed as well that the dirt line got so wide that even Max Fricke couldn't do anything with it in the later heats, like I say it was a shame because the first few heats had some good passing in.
