Stars V Wolves - Wed 13 May
stevebrum replied to pointsmeanplayoffs's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes we are, no one including many Wolves fans thought we stood a chance even at home. Even Poole and Bees have had a thumping loss at home and the Bees in particular are THE team to beat as many expected. We have exceeded most people's expectations so far despite some still thinking we are the weakest team still - which so far is wide off the mark. Obviously picking up more points on the road will be the ultimate test to us staying in contention for a top 4 place but there are at least half the current teams that would swap our decent start to the season. Still top 4 and only Swindon below us have raced the same meetings (Leicester have raced less but aren't in contention at present). That's better than anyone gives us credit for. Plenty at Monmore, thanks. -

You would think so, although Wolves are the surprise packets of the league so far this year. -

Belle Vue V Swindon - 11/5/2015

Late rescue from the Aces but great effort throughout from the Robins. Might have to change my mind if they can keep picking up away points! -
Punching well above our weight indeed. Just goes to show how rubbish 5-8 are then! ;-) Plenty of Wolves fans thought the same however those that are engaging their brains can acknowledge our good start for what it us. And we are only firing at about 60-70%. At least you can see that we are defying the supposed know alls who only seem to go on paper not on actual on track results. anyway let's get it back on topic and good luck to both teams tonight. With us not riding a chance to catch us up - temporarily; -)

Who ? Swindon at home to Wolves? Winning at home isn't showing play off form winning away and picking up points on the road is tho. Maybe if that starts happening then just maybe. -
Seems relevant then, Wolves still in the top 4 while the bottom 3 still look fodder so far. Plenty of meetings to change things around for everyone however!

Amazingly....It was Steve0 that started the 'Wolves are rubbish' nonsense yet somehow I'm the baddie for not rating Swindon. Wake up or grow up the pair of you.By the way I don't get bullied by anyone so best put me on ignore if you don't want to read my opinions. However try not to be a hypocrite! Just when I thought the forum was becoming a better and more respectful place. Tut tut. Amazing isn't it - the team that are meant to be rubbish (according the same few that are still going on pre season predictions) have been in the top 4 All season so far. Yea, REALLY bad!

Let's hope so. Lakeside have had a decent record in recent seasons and clearly belong in the EL. As for the EL not running without Lakeside - why not if that were to happen? Some seem to think that the EL can't go below 8 teams, yet both the biggest leagues (Poland & Sweden) have only 7 teams in their hugely successful top teams and leagues. -

Should be an aces win unless the Robins start showing any play off form. -
Leicester V Coventry 9th May 2015

So you are saying all riders that ride in the EL should put the EL ahead of their own countries championships? Yea right! The expected result for the Bees - just to think Wolves were linked to signing Bjarne pre season, thankfully that never happened! -

The standard was raised tho to make it a little fairer than it was last season, plus under this system someone is likely to get the pick wrong. I totally agree with the point you made about the likes of Blackbird, Garrity and Newman needing to be in the main 1-5. They showed last season they are ready. The hammers totally got the first pick wrong. It hasn't been a settled position or a good scoring one. On paper pre pick there looked little between all of the riders so I think that everyone had a fair chance. Ellis I have been impressed with from what I have seen but as 2nd FTR he shouldn't be relied upon to be scoring big points. It's the number 6 position that has let the Hammers down. -
Oh dear, things just getting worse for the Hammers. Good to see two of the Wolves boys helping out our play off rivals for away points! Excellent night for the Pirates and PK and Lewis. Commiserations Hammers fans but it's looking like a decent team on paper isn't working on track and missing AJ is a huge loss.

Leicester V Coventry 9th May 2015

1, 3 & 5 are all heat leader positions so are all as equally as tough. He rides at 3 for Swindon so is already scoring well in that position. -
I knew who you meant, didn't feel a need to be pedantic about the wrong rider tho.
-
Yes they did.
-
Absolutely agree. Way too many highly paid stars underperforming. In the lowest standard league as well!
-
KK was sacked by 3 clubs for not giving effort. The odd double score will never excuse the E'S worst worst supposed number one. Zagar has a long way to go to be that bad!
-
Starke was rightly ranked top in 2nd tier, however you are correct regards Newman - he was only ever going to be protected by Poole. Don't agree with the rankings tho as Newman has already proved he is a higher ranked rider on EL experience alone.
-
I think we have already shocked quite a few who had us down as awful, including the pundits. Yet we have won away and rock solid at home - not forgetting happily competing at the top end of the table. No doubt many are jealous that their predictions of us being rubbish are indeed rubbish. It's clear a lot of the top boys aren't scoring as expected this season so the other team members and reserves are making the differences right now. It will be interesting to see how things develop as the season unfolds, and those currently adrift if they can get on a run of form could make the table interesting indeed. Whilst Coventry look like walking to the top of the table consistency from the other teams will see them challenging for a top 4 spot. From a Wolves perspective I'm delighted we are showing promise from the off as this side is only going to get better so good times ahead!
-
keep chasing. Yet to be convinced by the robins line up. Time will tell, but I admire you're confidence.
-
Swindon got out of jail with this one, thank god that Zagar had a kasprzak type meeting yet again or the robins would be looking at falling further away from the established teams so far. Hopefully a killer will score big points throughout his stay and not fall into the inconsistent camp that so many of the top boys seem to be in this season.
-
Hans at cov, Zagar at Vue , AJ at lakeside, Iversen and Bjerre at Lynn, holder at Poole. ALL scoring well below their ability this season. Nothing new this season it seems.
-
Can see a Poole Win here
-
If the aces have serious credentials then this is the sort of meeting they should be aiming to get points out of. Kildemand I hope will be here for a while as looking forward to watching him again. Let's see if he can do what the likes of Lindgren, Zagar, andersen, Bjerre can't and that's score big points.
