I think to have a chance of attracting decent crowds an NL team needs to either be full of exciting youngsters or be strong enough to have a chance of winning things. Ideally, like Brum, the team would do both. Unfortunately Coventry seem to have done neither this year.

Seems like everyone at Lynn has given up, the management haven't seemed bothered from the word go in truth. Massive shake up required for next year, if that means going back to the PL then so be it as some of the sides we have put out this season have been embarrassing. Can accept injuries but the amount of absences due to other commitments has been ridiculous, although it's an EL problem too. -
I think Newcastle's chances went with Lewis' collarbone unfortunately.

Carrow Road for me!

If you look back at the scores in the previous four fixtures between the sides that season (including a 75-15!) Sheffield were probably the natural choice but unfortunately we didn't turn up in the first leg at Owlerton and got marmalised. Pretty obvious why Play Offs are used ie gate receipts, exciting climax to the season, Sky involvement in the EL and I don't have a problem with that but the fairest way will always be to crown who comes top.

I think Gazc is Glasgae..... The most impressive thing is Somerset have done it with Zach W being pants as he looked like their trump card in March.

Don't think Freddie & Tai will be getting ten between them again this season, best get it out of the way now before the serious stuff begins. -

Poole could well win this with a 5-1 in the reserves race. Whatever is the matter with Freddie? Assuming the track is slick lets hope it's much gripper for the Play Offs so that the south coast mafia are all at sea when it really matters. -

Kings Lynn V Lakeside 1st Sept 2016
Bagpuss replied to Hornsey's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I don't think being the top rider in the PL is an easy thing to do, once in a blue moon somebody like Darcy comes along and can go to tracks for the first time and score maximums and break track records as he did in 2009 but there are a lot of tracks in the PL to master. Places like Edinburgh, Sheffield and Somerset are so unique in there shape, size and surface that it takes several visits to compete with the home men consistently. Robert has only been in the PL for a season and a half and to finish above riders as experienced and fast as Masters, King, Cook, Stead, Graczjonek etc in the averages who have been on the PL circuit for years is a big ask at 18 years old. -

Yep agree with that tellboy, he has been inconsistent because of his poor gating but he has developed this year in terms of away form, PL form, getting a Swedish team place, reaching the GP challenge and his performances in the world U21 individual and team meetings. His gating will hold him back until he gets it sorted but for an 18 year old I think he's doing ok. -

All speculation though isn't it? AFAIK nobody on here knows how many dates were offered, when those dates were and how many were turned down. Complete guesswork.

So Who Is Going To Win The El In 2016?
Bagpuss replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Wolves top four is as strong as any but when it comes to the crunch of a Play Off semi or final I'm not convinced by their bottom three at all. Clegg can only ride small tracks, PK is 46 and Howarth has been a let down this year. Difficult to pick between the top three sides when all is said and done, all have their strengths and weaknesses. -

I'm no fan of the Monarch's promotion but it seems common sense to me to allow a guest at number 7 in the second leg of a double header whether he has a team spot elsewhere or not. The paying public want to see four man races where possible. -

Dear oh dear oh dear. If we can't put out a competitive side perhaps its time to drop out of the EL. Absolutely woeful, reminds me of 2002 and some of the gash we tracked in the 80's. -

I think big tracks are best but Wolves is probably the best little un out there, always decent racing IMO. Wolves should win this by 10-12. -
Kings Lynn V Lakeside 1st Sept 2016
Bagpuss replied to Hornsey's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
As I understand the 'squad system' Lynn could declare Jakobsen in the team and replace Batchelor with Huckenbeck who is the number 8. Whether that would go down well with Roger Warnes is another matter. To me Batchelor has never been fit all season (he admitted himself he started to early) and like Schlein he has simply had too many serious accidents, as others have said they have both struggled this year with other riders around them, backing out of tight situations and throttling off into the corners. Don't blame either of them for this, just one of those things after multiple serious injuries. Bottom line though is that Rory got sacked because he wasn't scoring points, and Porsing's score last night vindicated the decision straight away. -
