Kent Kings V Mildenhall Tigers Nt 04/05
waco replied to blueherb777's topic in National League Speedway
A meeting devoid of any dirt on the track with the widest blue groove i have ever seen its about time Mr Cairns spent some money on the track .but is he interested in the Speedway ??.. A close encounter with some good racing our top 3 of Ben, James and Danny how ever can not keep on carrying the team and i agree with AJ is king the team needs strengthening ,but where would the riders come from i dont see any out there at the moment . Aaron is capable of better and his gating is very hit or miss.. Improved performance from Adam Shepherd i thought contary to other opinions, hopefully it will continue ,,Danno has only the odd good ride and needs to get all his rides up to the level he is capable of and Jamie is just not quick enough and is getting passed to often, after making reasonable starts ..The debate about the size of the crowd, yes it does vary in size but is still one of the best at this level..To be maintained however the team does need strengthening, and money spent on the track or support will start to dwindle... By the way Tea boy the track was graded twice were you in the bar at the time..and there was no dirt for the track staff to pull in an we would have needed brooms not rakes.!! -

Why has having faster reactions to the tapes going up than the other 3 in the race always have to be classed as getting a roller.. Todays ref,s dont know the difference between a perfect start and a roller, and pull everything back. and Most of the World champions of the past had exactly that ability FAST REACTIONS..... -

An incident packed meeting, the track which had a pre meeting shower proving difficult for the less experienced riders causing several falls, , With that hold the tapes forever ref Chris Gay causing further delays, red lighting fast starters Ben Morley 12 Point max and Max Clegg both of whom made perfect starts in my opinion,,but that does not seem to be allowed these days by a crop of the worst refs i have seen in 65 yrs of following speedway ,,One or two great races in between the mayhem the best of which Ben Morley,s win of a 15 mtr handicap swooping on the last turn to take the win, and Danno Verge rode well in the same race.. James Shanes continues to excite the fans including a blinding ride from the back to take a fine win one of 3 on the night . The final result was almost inevitable without Danny Ayers ( still injured ) but Kent did not go down without a spirited effort 38-45 .Curfew after heat 14 Result stands -
The general standard of the current crop of refs is the worst i have ever seen in 65 yrs of being in and around Speedway, and with poor promoting of meetings ,,bad track preparation at many venues is it any wonder support is drifting away from a once great sport..
-
Good effort from a depleated Kings at Mildenhall i feel had Danny Ayres been fit to ride we would have got something from the meeting as the reserves struggled for points from his R/R rides .Though Jaimie Couzins had his moments and could be improving,,Danno,s points would likely have been more but for 2 tapes exclusions .. At the top end Ben Morley after an unlucky ex in heat one ( many thought Kingston should have gone instead ?) Went through the card with two dominate wins over Fen Tigers no 1 Dan Halsey, but both were great races,,he scored 12 from 5 rides .James Shanes cought the eye with some spectacular rides in his 13 point haul from 6 rides and Arron Baseby scored a solid 8 points ...The track was bad at the start of the meeting but improved as the afternoon progressed.. Final score Tigers 48 Kings 41..It was freezing cold but still enjoyed the racing and the fish and chips.....
-
Obviously the sport would die with out the support of fans ..But equally the riders would dissapear without sponsers so in either case the sport would die, ,maybe with the exception of amateur level,, but then who could afford to rent a track for them to ride on ,,without paying customers ?..Or the riders having to pay large fee,s to ride it ???.....Back to the money question again ?

# Thank god for that adz mft ,good information...
-
R/R really does weaken the kings ,meaning to many rides will be taken by the reserves and Danno who will need to up their game if we are to have any chance of a good result .. I hope the track is in better condition than for the under 21,s last week which was somewhere between very bad and down right dangerous..We need Danno to improve further on his good form at home in the pairs meeting.. I also hope that Adam Shepherd,s bike is firing on all cylinders and they have sorted out his Carb.. Weather looks good for sunday ,and myself and the wife always enjoy the atmosphere at Mildenhall and the fish and chips..
-
To get anywhere in this game, they are totally dependent on sponsership, whether it be parents ,,grandparents ,,friends or keen businesses ..After 60yrs in and around speedway with a grandson currently racing, i have never seen a rider get anywhere without considerable financial help... I am afraid your on your own on this one Sings for Kings ..Which surprises me as we usually concur on most aspects of speedway...
-
I am given to understand that Danny Ayers could be out for about a fortnight ,broke a small bone in his hand..I believe we will operate rider replacement on sunday at Mildenhall///.But you know Danny anything might happen ? And rider replacement will weaken us considerably ... On riders dropping out this year i dont think the public realise the huge costs to keep going and with very low pay rates in this league it does not surprise me that some just can not carry on..Some of these lads are riding on very poor equipment and in some cases could be better than they look at present, if they had the necessary financial backing..
-
To expect to get team riding with the difference in class whithin the pairings is not really on .Your asking the pairs leader to slow down to rookie level and that aint going to happen So in my opinion Derek is right and the formular used was the right one..On this occasion...But any meeting where there is a wide difference in ability is not going to produce great racing
-
I actually thought i was on the wrong thread for Kent, untill checked, ? Eastbourne does have its own thread ...
-
A Ben Morley 15 point max gave him and partner Adam Sheperd 2 points ( unlucky not to score more had carb problems),, victory, by one point, from James Shanes, who,s only defeat came at the hands of Morley .James scored ,14 points, and his partner Nial Strudwick 2 points were 2nd .. Danno Verge who upped his game today and even led Morley for short while, and Richings who got well out of shape trying to pass Danno ,he scored 9 and gets my award of the most improved performance for the Kings .. but the racing by and large was mostly well spread out, as you would expect with so many rookies in the line up.. and there were several speedway riders from yester, year in attendence which was great to see.. A better crowd than i expected and it is to be hoped the experience was benificial to our bottom 3 riders.
-
It must be a bit worrying for the promotion that the long tail in the team may cause the excellent support received so far at Kent could cause a drop in attendances.. In my opinion while the riders concerned will need time to improve ,,How much time can be afforded them ,Without the inevitable happening ?
-
The line up for the pairs is very poor and the organisers seem to want Danny Ayers to win as his pairing with Brendon Johnson looks far stronger than any other pairing,,Can only visualise a poor turnout for this. Still the Danny Ayers victory cellebrations should be worth the entry fee alone ,But i do not expect great racing...

Kings could do with( that big head ?) in their team moving Danno down to reserve .but of course the averages will not fit ,, personally always found Brendon a nice guy -

The lack of enough tyres for 14 riders really is not good enough and would not normally happen. On the day Jessop,s spares van was at Rye House ,so he came to kent in a car ,i dont know the reasons there were only 10 tyres, maybe with two meetings to cover and being Bank Holiday that was all that were available?,,or a miss calculation of what would be required. ? or how many can you get in a car ?.Would probably have caused a storm had Eastbourne lost the meeting..I gather Eastbourne,s management were not happy with the situation and who can blame them.. -

I concur with Teaboys assessment of ref Barbara Horley..I have always considered her the worst of a pretty poor lot of current refs,,actually today was one of her better meetings, less to complain about than usual..Back to the meeting one of the best i have seen at Central Park The track was smoother than normal but the riders found it marbly, the shale just does,nt bind to the base,Still some good passes from the all action James Shanes 2 wins and 9 points ,,if only he could gate ?..Bradley Wilson-Dean for Eastbourne also made great passes and looks premier league class, how he gets in this league on a 5 point average beats me.. Ben Morley was solid as usual and got his revenge on Bradley in heat 15 scored 16 points including a tactical ride victory..Aaron baseby did his job, scored 6 ,,but Danny Ayers has yet to hit the form we all know he is capable, it will come 7 points..The bottom 3 riders are our achillese heal ,do we have time for them to improve ?? and will they..?? are there any riders out there that could do a better job, on a 3 point average??? Matt Saul maybe,??. Who else is there ??? Kings were beaten today by better reserves,in a team with strenght in depth,,Danny Warwick being the weak link at the moment,if he starts to click that team can start looking at honours in their first season..The track presentation was slick today, Derek Barklay doing a good job on the mike.. I.think the large crowd would have appreciated the excellent racing today and hope that will keep them comeing to the home of the kings despite the result this afternoon... -

This match may well be decided by the performances of the reserves, and from what i saw on friday at eastbourne does not look good for the Kings..,Having said that on balance it should be a close encounter ..Weather looks ok and a large crowd expected... A good show at Mildenhall in the under 21 semi from Ben Morley 14 points and James Shanes 12 points on a bad surface caused by fridays stock car meeting Many falls and some withdrawring from the meeting and many would say down right dangerous for the number of rookies in the meeting ... -
Some good posts on here have said it all really,,Our reserves will cost us matches and will take along time to improve ,will they get it,i dont know ? James Shanes was so very slow to the first bend, but then he winds it on and will give us some exciting races but must improve his gating.. Up and down night for Danny Ayers he will do better..Aaron Basby was solid..Danno Verge needs to start upping his pace to be competitive .. Apart from his first ride which was the fastest time of the night by some way ,Ben Morley,s gating was not as electric as usual and he had to ride some great first turns to secure his points,,was also a subject of a poor decision in the back straight incident in my opinion,.. The Eagles have a real find in Bradley Wilson -Dean though how he comes in on a 5 point average beats me..Marc Owen looks in for a great season and will up his average .And two good little reserves in Georgie Wood and Kelsey Dugard makes them a more solid outfit than Kings,However Danny Warwick will need to up his game ,looked slow tonight,I have always thought him a big track rider.. Eastbourne did well to get the meeting on., And the Kings management could learn a lot from the slick presentation ,an excellent roving mike presenter added so much to the meeting In the end i was a little surprised the Kings got to 40 points
-
With Redcar off will Ben Morley be re routed to Eastbourne tonight,, he could be somewhere on the A1 at present??
-
Ben morley rides for Bears tonight,, not at Eastbourne for Kent as under the two clubs agreement,,This has been overturned by the governing body and he must ride for his premier league club.. Good luck to him and the Bears team..Whats the weather like up there ?
-
Thought id post on here as Redcar had dissapeared from page one of the listings,, seems very little interest on here for this club ?? Still trying to find out if Ben Morley is riding for the Bears at home on friday or for Kent down at Eastbourne.... Conflicting reports ..??
-
Parsloes with respect.. we were at the back of the room with people talking behind us and you could not hear there,, it may well be that those closer could hear,, But i still maintain these meetings would be better with the use of microphones..
