Yes the bspa could give a new consortium a licence. But they (bspa) would be wide open to being sued for more money than they have. If, say, they refused to give Horton a licence, and there’s no reason why they wouldn’t, he could just sell the club to a family member who would then apply for a licence. The only legal way new owners can come in is if they buy the club from Horton. There’s no getting over this fact. And they can’t call themselves Brandon Wasps either, or operate within 30 miles of Coventry as each licence has distance protection. What some think could happen is the equivelent to someone knocking on your door. You open it and in they stroll in and say they are now going to live here now and you have no rights. I am not trying to stir the pot. Just saying it as it more or less is. And because Coventry made a 25 grand loss means nothing. Horton could have offset debts/profits from his other businesses. The value of Coventry speedway has very little to do with yearly accounts. Both owners had brought the sport into disrepute. Belle Vue for failing to pay any rent (they were basically dead in the water) and Leicester with the promoter refusing to pay his fine and attacking an official.

People can't just come along and steal someones business as the owner ofCoventry speedway Horton can ask whatever price he sees fit to ask. Whether any prospective buyer would be willing to pay the price asked is up to them. I am not defending Horton just making the point that laws are in place to stop people coming along and stealing businesses from lawful owners. Hopefully Horton will sell and both he and the buyer will be happy. Up to Horton as the lawful owner to ask for whatever price he wants.

Rather than continuously making a pillock of yourself by throwing abuse, perhaps you should consider a neutral viewpoint from a speedway fan who actually wants your club to survive. It doesn't matter who these people are in the group. We can all wish for different owners but it means nothing. If they don't own the product they are nothing more than a group of people with the same interest. Have they made an offer to Horton to buy his promoters licence? If not why not? I hope for the sake of Coventry speedway that their 'fans' on here don't represent the majority of fans who just turn up to support their team. Otherwise in 5 years time they will be regretting not keeping their club alive in 2018.

Absolutely correct. There seems to be a feeling of glee from certain Coventry fans that thd move to Leicester will fail, bringing about the final nail in the coffin for Coventry speedway. Some seem to be pinning their hopes on a group of Coventry fans to bring the sport back to Brandon, or at leadt Coventry. But what affiliation do these people have with Horton? If none, it would be the same as me saying I am going to attempt to bring the Bees back to Brandon. Unless these group of fans have deep pockets to buy Horton out, its not likely to go anywhere and will result in no team on track.
-
No I quite understand the situation.
-
No. It dorsn’t work when there is already another team from the same club, as the bigger team will always attract the crowd. Football shows this exactly. 60,000 for Arsenal first team. Reserves. 800. And thats often with star names playing. Coventry have now one team in the NL. So why not support them? If you don’t like Horton fair enough but he is the only person willing to put out a team and the only person with the license to do so. He is club owner, like it or not. People might be trying to work on getting a new stadium/return to Brandon, but if this doesn’t involve Horton they have no rights whatsoever and would have to buy the club off Horton if they wanted to proceed. Do they have the money to do this? It would be exactly the same as me waking up tomorrow and saying I don’t like the way Coventry is run and attempting to undermine the current promoter. A waste of time unless he sells his license to me. And the only person Horton is thinking about is Horton. But isn’t that true in every walk of life? And at least he has made the effort to run Coventry in 2018. If fans don’t bother at least he can say he tried. And if anyone else wants a go afterwards they can contact him to buy the club.
-
Well you don’t seem to have the intelligence to say anything else. So carry on repeating.
-
I am guessing the reason why the Coventry cubs team wasn’t viable, was because the speedway fans in the area spent their money on watching the first team. The same as Poole. But now without a first team, Coventry fans can support their only team, regardless of what division its in. They are riding just a few miles up the road in Leicester. Not more than 30 minutes drive. It takes longer than that to get from one end of Bournemouth to Poole stadium in the summer! And its on a Sunday afternoon, so no worry about late nights and kids to school. Sure everyone wants speedway at Brandon but surely you would want a team to support while the issues with Brandon Estates are being sorted out? Or would Coventry fans prefer to have no club whatsoever, like Oxford? Watching the stadium slowly fall apart as the owners wait and wait and wait for the council to finally back down so they can build houses?
-
So rather than discuss why you want your club to fold for good you would rather embarrass yourself with pathetic remarks. Sums you up nicely.
-
What a terrible shame this thread is full of people who want to see the complete demise of Coventry speedway. I hope that there are enough proper Coventry fans out there who will support their club at Leicester. And shame on those that want to see it fail.
-
Seems to me reading this that Coventry speedways time is completely up. Even the fans on here seem to want the team to fail.
-
As well as Poole, who also had an out and out number one lined up. Or doesn't this fit your anti Poole agenda?
-
Who’s to say cvs didn’t have a word safe in the knowledge......... The decision for only one above 8 is not Poole’s making.
-
Poole actually voted for making up the team as promoters see fit. With Belle Vue unable to vote the bottom four voted for only one above 8 so riders would be fairly distributed. Poole, Swindon and Wolves outvoted. Magic was a possible return to Poole in 18. Not now.
-
There are ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’. This rules was clearly put in place so that the ‘haves’ share their top riders with the ‘have nots’. Only fair and should be applauded. As a bank holday and a day that Poland don’t ride, I should imagine it will be a full league program as usual.
-
We really do need to sign CH. Personally I wouldn’t have Hans back. We need riders full of improvement and brash raw talent. Not journeymen and Hans fits into that category nowdays. Some might say so does CH but I believe CH can capture his previous form to a degree whilst Hans at best might repeat 2017. As for JH, think he burned his bridges with Matt last season and won’t be in the 2018 Poole team.
-
Where's Horton getting the money from? From his own pocket and sponsors I should imagine. It doesn’t cost a lot to run an NL team. I could certainly afford it and so could many people. The conspiracy theory of Brandon Estates sponsoring Coventry at Leicester is straight out of cloud cuckoo land. There really is no reason for BE to spend a penny. Think this jackanory story is being spread by very sad people who want to see Coventry become completely extinct.
-
Overall sounds a decend agm. Dont like t/s in heat 14. Guess the one over8 is to stop clubs grabbing two over 8s while another club cant attract one. Sounds fair.
-
Matt Ford has alread stated that Poole would move race nights if they needed to. So if Poole move to Thursdays its no big deal. Pretty sure the fans would turn up regardless. But as Sheffield and Ipswich have not moved up I am guessing Mondays and Wednesdays. I was hoping we might see an expanded top flight but it seems its as you were. Hopefully no more guests. No more over long delays with tape infringments etc. and a decent points limit.
-
Ok so now some are saying Brandon Estates are paying Mich Horton to run NL speedway at Leicester so they can build houses at Brandon? What a load of guff. Where’s the proof of this and why on earth would Brandon Estates want to pay Mick Horton any money? They don’t have any need to! They have booted out the speedway, have the keys to the locks and have bolted the gates. Why waste money on something they are not interested in? A ridiculous conspiracy theory, for the loonies.
-
You reckon Sandhu is involved? Thought he was the reason for this whole sorry mess. Never one for conspiracy theories.
-
Really? Then I too have missed it. I know he’s working with Neil who is co promoter but didn’t think anyone else is involved. So who is it? His brother?
-
And right too. Clearly there has been a lot to discuss and debate and get right as best they can. Waiting 24 hours is no big deal.
-
And they are going to get turned down? I don’t think so. I am really getting the feeling that some on here want the move to Leicester to fail miserably. Rather than have a team to support they would prefer Coventry to join Ellesmere Port, Long Eaton, Barrow, Oxford and Wimbledon and become defunct. Shame on them if that’s the case.
-
And what facts don't I know? Coventry are running in the national league. Fact. You have a team to support. Its only a few miles up the road and no issues for the majority to make it. Surely you would rather be in the NL than not have a team?
