Star man for me, Tomasz Gollob! Not exactly his old self and exciting us but still not exactly boring. So pleased to see him doing well again and his interview afterwards, you could tell he was happy. The Nicki vs Crumpy clash in the final was intresting, Crump rolling and taking the lead, Nicki riding a superb 2nd bend/back straight to take the lead. Crumpy really throwing everything he had at Nicki, very harsh, almost dirty but fair play to Nicki he didn't seem to mind. Favourite bit however was when they water the track, upsetting Mr GP Speedway, Ole Olsen!! HaHaHaHa!! Crumpy may have got lucky in the semi but how often he has been the unlucky on to stop? About time he had some good luck in a GP!

Talk about paranoid! The Poles disliking him has nothing to do with his British club!!!

What about hotels? No where near enough of them in Workington -
Handy Hints For Cardiff
SCB replied to shielfield's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yes, Cardiff is a lot further from Workington that London (it's closer by a pretty negligable amount BTW) and the cost of hotels in affluent South Wales is a lot more than any hotel in London! NOT. If you want to stay in the centre of Cardiff, the weekend a big event is taking place in the city centre, you'll pay loads (as you would anywhere). Howvever, use your brain and stay in Newport, pay a lot less and still only be a bus and a train (maybe only a train) ride away from Cardiff and down the road from the Newport meetings on the Friday and Saturday. Newport to Cardiff is less than the distance from 1 side of London to the other! What you spend on bus/train fares will almost be saved on parking costs! So my tips, save a bit of cash and stay in Newport, spend the money you've saved on a hotel by drinking a little more, by loads of airhorns (or if you're an old fuddie duddie buy some ear protection as your ears WILL still be buzzing when you get to bed), don't buy a programme as filling one in under the influence is near impossible (easier now with the current format I guess). Get to cardiff for mid-day and get into a bar (they're all by the stadium, for a reason!) and generaly have fun, you'd have to really try hard not to! If you really want to, you can even go and do some shopping pre-meeting! -

Andreas Jonsson at 33/1. He has "flu" so is looking good for a decent GP just to show what a bloody farce it is that he has been unable to ride in this country! However, if he does win I won't be slagging him off -
4th bend, just past the apex (so you can see the big screen at the other end), top tier on the back row of people is the place to be! It has been for the last 2 years! Who cares what your ticket says, I haven't taken any notice the last 2 seasons!

challenge anyone... ...not under 15's

I know I'm going back over a year but I just stumbled across this thread. At Coventrys thank you meeting at the end of last season, a few of the rider did come out on the JAPs and some of them were very good. Chris Harris and Martin Smolinski were great and raced side by side for 4 laps in a long track sort fo way (leg back, arse up superman pose. I'd love to see a few more riders try riding the older bikes!

Who actually sits down at speedway?

So explain PL grading?! If the BSPA want to ban the Johnny Foreignors, they can and will.

There is a thread in speedway general discussions. My sister likes it

Denmark - Henrik Vedel and Kristian Lund. Nicki Glanz (son of Peter) will be making his debut for the Newport Mavericks next week.

Russell/Rusty Harrison? I believe his real name is Russell Harrison but he is called Rusty. This will aply to lots of rider who are not actually called byt he name on their birth cirtificate, including Joe Screen, Tony Rickardsson and Mark Burrows.

So 11 EL teams, 2 reserve slots = 22 riders. Find me 22 rider who are British and fit your criteria and I'll show you at least half a dozen CL riders! Then what about the PL teams? They're have no British rider (apart from the CL second strings and reserve riding at reserve). Now imagine a few of the better Brits to stay in the PL, that would mean some of the CL second strings would have to ride in the EL. Can you imagine Sam Hurst in the EL? It would end his career as he'd be guarenteed to come last every time, Tony Rickardsson would fall off and still beat him. It's not thr answer, YET
-
It's still flawed. What makes a guy from Wrexham any more deserving of a team place at Newport than a guy from Bristol (which is closer). Is Berwick England or Scotland? It's possible that a lad from 3 or 4 miles away who is the wrong side of the border losses out (and lets assume for a second they're English, are they?), so they sign Danny Warwick who has to drive from one end of England to the other. Would be so much better to say every team had to have a rider who lived (or was born), within 30 miles of the track. It would be a joke for someone who was born in Bristol to not be able to ride for Newport, some 15-20 miles away yet he can ride for Berwick, Workington and Newcastle, 100's of miles away!

800 was not enough for the sport to be considered "born", surely the sport is all but dead in this country then! I'd imagine the average UK attendance is around that figure! You've not been to Reading lately? The way I see it, 1928 speedway is so different to 2006 speedway that you could argue it's a different sport, in much the same way you would argue 1908 "dirt track racing" was not. Surely the sport has just evolved over time. In 1929 didn't the rider ride to the track, strip the bike down, race, put the bike back together and ride home? I'd love to see someone try that these days!

1? Welsh rider are.... Phil Morris (the day he rides for a Newport team that is promoted by Tim Stone is the day hell freezes over, I believe!), Tom Brown (pretty much the same), Jamie Westacott (about as reliable as the British weather), the Tuttons, Darren Hatton, Russell Barnett, Me, Tim Stone, Pinny..... Ok we have the dubious Welshman Tony Atrkin and Glenn Cunnighams mum is from Newport BUT Glenn Cunningham? No thanks and it only takes one club with a grudge against Newport to offer Tony Atkin mad terms and Newport are left with no Welsh rider, dubious or not. We could sign Jamie Wesacott (who doesn't even know if he retiring or not!) and Matt Tutton (4.xx CL rider). Oh joy, I'd love to watch that pair at reserve!

Puk is 3rd heatleader at Peterborough. I don't have the averages to hand but I believe Puk has a higher EL average than Kenneth.
-
Chris Slabon always rode with Candian livery bikes, he also always rode in World Championship rounds as a Canadian, obviously its easier than riding as a Pole a she is guarenteed a slot as the top Canadian. I know I consider him more Canadian than Polish, but then I consider Andy Smith British and Rune Holta Norweigan.
-
Good job you're not in charge then really! Where are Newport meant to find 2 decent Welsh riders who want to ride for Newport? I could get a call up. Thats just to begin.

Reading Host World Cup?

Ole was at the track on Monday. Probably highly impressed by the lack of shale on the track. -

The width of the bend is irrelevant? Surely? It is at Cardiff!! -
Paranoia I think, I'm sure 1 or 2 don't hate you Phil and Lee Herne (both Newport) Brendon McKay (Reading -2001 and 2002) John Oliver (Boston and King's Lynn) Jason Hawkes (Belle Vue 1999) Darren Groves (Kings Lynn and Workington 1999) Corey Dore (didn't ride for a team, he rode second halves at Somerset in 2003?)
